The NHL will not suspend Ben Eager for a rule violation that cost him the end of Saturday night’s win in St. Louis.
With 3:33 remaining in the third period, Eager got into a fight with Barrett Jackman of the Blues. After the two exchanged New Year’s greetings, the referees found that Eager was in violation of NHL Rule 47.15 which reads: Any player or goalkeeper wearing tape or any other material on his hands (below the wrist) who cuts or injures an opponent during an altercation will receive a match penalty in addition to any other penalties imposed including for fighting under this rule.
Upon further review on Sunday, though, the league determined that no further disciplinary action was necessary. Eager, along with Colin Fraser and Tomas Kopecky on the Hawks fourth line, have played exceptionally well lately. Kopecky scored two goals on Saturday night in the physical 6-3 Hawks victory.
