Blackhawks Bring Ben Smith to Chicago

Ben Smith is the prospect coming to Chicago to fill Marian Hossa’s roster spot. After practice on Friday morning, Smith indicated he’ll be skating with Dave Bolland and Fernando Pisani when the Blackhawks welcome the Edmonton Oilers to the United Center.

Smith, 22, is listed at 5’11 and 200 pounds and is a wing. To begin this year in Rockford, Smith has┬ácontributed four points (one goal, three assists) in eight games. He was the Most Outstanding Player in the 2010 Frozen Four, leading Boston College (and Hawks’ prospect Jimmy Hayes) to the NCAA Championship.

Jack Skille and Jake Dowell also have NCAA Championship rings from their days with Adam Burish and Joe Pavelski at Wisconsin.

Ben Smith’s 2010 ring is not only shinier than the ex-Badgers’ rings, but he has two of them. Smith and Boston College also won the National Championship in 2008. Smith had an ‘A’ in 2010.
