On Monday morning, the Blackhawks reassigned top prospect Jeremy Morin to Rockford.
Morin made a name for himself, and more than a few fans, during an excellent preseason. But because the team needed to carry extra help on the blue line, it was Nick Leddy that made the trip to Chicago to begin the year while Brian Campbell was out. It wasn’t until Marian Hossa and Dave Bolland were both out that the Hawks made the call for Morin.
In his two games with the Hawks, Morin played just under 19 minutes and put four shots on net. He also suffered what looked, at the time, to be a nasty injury to his right knee while blocking a puck in his debut. He was not able to return to that game, but did play on Saturday night.
The Blackhawks are expecting Dave Bolland back soon, and Bryan Bickell was a healthy scratch in the loss to Edmonton. With Hossa back in the lineup, Morin would have likely been settled into the rotation on the third or fourth line. Increased ice time in Rockford will help Morin’s development.
