Blackhawks Send Morin, Hayes To Rockford

On Tuesday, the Blackhawks assigned Jeremy Morin and Jimmy Hayes to Rockford.

This move appears to be clearing the way for Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp to return from injury to face St. Louis on Thursday night.

We technically only needed one spot correct? Since sharp wasnt on IR, just hossa? So we are likely going to get someone else before the deadline or they want the best guys trying to help rockford make the playoffs, no?

  2. BigSmokeJ says:

They need to also clear a spot for Handzus

  3. JS says:

Bollig was sent down to clear a spot for Handzus. They didn’t HAVE to send them down since it will be after the trade deadline, but I imagine they did it so they can keep playing.

Tough spot for Morin & Hayes if they were sent to Rockford to help their playoff push. If they’re in the lineup for the IceHogs tonight, that’ll make three games in three cities in three days (Sun @ DET, Mon @ UC, Tue @ Rockford).

re: the center issue – Ribeiro was under 40% at the dot in March. Roy historically has been better than his numbers this year, so not sure if that’s a function of the Stars struggling or him not doing as well (haven’t watched enough Dallas hockey, sorry).

Jagr is indeed on the market, but I wouldn’t look for the Hawks to make a push. It looks like there could be a bidding war for him, and if the Hawks aren’t going to put up for Iginla there’s little chance they put prospects out there for another old RW.

Thats gotta be it JS… no reason to let them sit on a bench when they can be playing for RFD in a playoff push. With 2 vs Milwaukee and 2 vs Peoria, they can move into a playoff spot. Morin and Hayes would be a big part of that, especially when we have guys like Carcillo and Mayers to be fill-ins/scraches.

UPDATE: The Canucks have acquired Derek Roy from Dallas for a 2nd round pick + Kevin Connauton

  7. Tab Bamford says:

BREAKING: The Blackhawks have reportedly placed Steve Montador & Rostislav Olesz on waivers on Tuesday…

  8. BigSmokeJ says:

Ok, SB couldn’t have sent a 2nd and Olsen for Roy? Head shaker.

    Tab,
What does waiving those two do for the Hawks? Is this them using their two buyouts? If so could a big move be coming?

  9. Tab Bamford says:

BigSmoke: Hawks don’t have a 2nd or 3rd in this summer’s draft (Oduya). That’s a problem when considering the Roy trade. That, and I doubt the Stars (or Hawks) wanted to deal inside their future division.

  10. Tab Bamford says:

Multiple outlets reporting Jagr to Boston. More to come…

  11. ozzzie19 says:

Tab what do you make of Olesz and Montador on waivers? What does it accomplish? It doesn’t clear spots on the 50 man, does it? I guess I’m confused because Montador was put on waivers March 11th and Olesz on March 13th. They weren’t recalled so why would they need to be put on waivers again?

  12. HAWKS NEED SOLID GOAL TENDING SINCE THEY HAVE GIVEN UP EASY GOALS
CRAWFORD PUT TWO GOALS IN ALMOST BY HIMSELF
CARCILLO LOOKS SLOW SINCE KNEE INJURY . OUR NEW PERSON MICHAEL HAS HAD ONE GOAL ALL YEAR NOTHING TO GET EXCITED ABOUT AND MIGHT BE TOO SLOW FOR THE SPEEDY HAWKS .

JUST HOPE SHARP AND HOSSA STAY HEALTHY SINCE TEAMS WILL SINGLE OUT THE WEAK SHOULDER AREAS AND CHECK THEM HEAVILY. WE NEED TO HIT SLIGHTLY MORE EVEN THOUGH IT CREATES INJURIES . SOMETIMES THAT GOOD HIT BECOMES OUR OWN WORST ENEMY

  13. ozzzie19 says:

Or I guess these could be re-entry waivers. If so, why expose yourself to the risk that either one could be claimed and therefore the Hawks would be on the hook for half their salaries (rather than just use our two compliance buy outs on them this offseason)? Unless they have other plans for their compliance buy out(s)….

Who cares about cap space for this season, we’ve got plenty. But I am very concerned about cap space for next season.
