After moving some of the team’s toughness in the last week, the Chicago Blackhawks signed some muscle late Thursday afternoon. John Scott, who will be 28 on Opening Night, is listed at 6’8 and 258 pounds and played in 51 games in Minnesota last year.
Scott averaged only 8:36 on the ice in those 51 games, but racked up 90 penalty minutes. He’s going to need to work on his quickness (read: develop some) if he’s going to contribue to the Hawks this coming season, but his size is clearly something the team could use in the wake of Dustin Byfuglien and Ben Eager being dealt. However, he has played forward and defense (like Byfuglien) and has some versatility to his game. Early reports speculate that his salary should be around the $500k he earned last year with the Wild.
