Blackhawks Sign D Michal Rozsival

The Blackhawks announce on Tuesday that they have agreed on a one-year deal with defenseman Michal Rozsival.

Rozsival, who turned 34 on Labor Day, played in 54 games with the Phoenix Coyotes last year. He recorded 62 hits and 91 blocked shots with 13 points (1 goal, 12 assists) while averaging 19:19 of ice time last year.

The Blackhawks continue to have a crowded blue line, and Roszival adds another name to the mix for ice time this coming season. Rozsival will battle with Johnny Oduya, Niklas Hjalmarsson and Nick Leddy for minutes this season, if there isn’t a trade before the season begins.

In related news, there still isn’t a CBA in place… so when Rozsival’s one-year deal begins is…?

  1. I would imagine that would HAVE to be the plan at this point.

Your not going to move Seabs/Keith/Leddy. You just signed Oduya. You brought in FA’s in Brookbank and Rozsival. That’s 6. And you would think Olsen has to be in the mix at some point this year (saw a few rumblings that he may start the year in Rockford… if there is a year). Then you still have Montador if he is healthy enough to get on the ice. Now that’s 8. AND then there is Hammer…

If my math is decent enough… we have about 6 million in cap space. With Hammer making about 3.5M he would be in any trade package. Thats 9.5 Million to play with. To me there are 3 teams who have players that fit the 2C role and might deal if the right offer was on the table.

    1. Boston- David Krejci. They just signed Seguin and Marchand to extentions. They still have Bergeron and chris kelly. Now if Seguin is used on the Wing as he has been. they are a little thinner. But if they use Seguin up the middle then Krejci is tradeable.

    2. Edmonton- Shawn Horcoff. I know he has been in Edmonton for years, but they are in a youth movement, and atleast another year from contention. Dangle a guy like McNeil in the package and they might bite.

    3. Calgary- Mike Cammalleri. Not my first choice, but he is an offensive upgrade vs Kruger on the 2nd line, and we can afford him for 2 years if we are in a bind and want to pull the string on somebody.

  2. Tim G – good info (thanks)…and I agree/would rate Seabrook, Keith, Leddy, and Oduya the Hawks “Top 4”. Brookbank and Rozsival I’ve really seen only playing against Chicago (- Rozsival looked pretty good last season in the playoffs).

Of the guys you mentioned, by far I like David Krejci – although I haven’t seen him much either, age and stats make him the standout. How much would the Hawks have to give?

I like the organ-EYE-zation’s talent. But, I think Kane is much better at RW (- why do Bowman and whoever want to believe he’s a C…?). I think Sharp can play C – he’s really pretty good at C or W…why do Bowman and whoever want to believe he’s not a C…? Kruger — he *may* be a #2 center…and, maybe that’s what Bowman is thinking? He has exceptional hockey sense – hopefully, he’s grown/strengthened some and developed the offensive side of his game.

  3. Hammer has been on the block all summer,Leddy I’ve heard is also being dangled.Since the Cap is supposed to come down,I’d say there gonna dump a contract. My guess would be Hammer but my hope would be Leddy

  4. I think Leddy has a LOT of upside – he’s only 21…and only 1.5 years nhl experience. I would be surprised if the Hawks move him.

  5. E. Kane@wing Sharp to Center. This should be the direction taken until we know IF P. Kane can put up 6.3 mil. points AND intensity needed. E gives much needed board play and net presents [30+goals]. Stal`s +Hammer+ picks [not#1]+1 Prospect Not Saad,Olsen. Krejci is my pick of the three, should be cheaper too.
