Blackhawks Sign Spencer Abbott

The fourth player signed by the Chicago Blackhawks on the first day of free agency is Spencer Abbott.

Abbott, 28, agreed to a one-year deal with the Hawks. Originally undrafted, he joined the Toronto Marlies after four years at the University of Maine, and posted his best AHL season in 2013-14 with 17 goals and 52 assists in 64 games.

Listed at 5-9 and 170 pounds, he was traded to the Blackhawks for TJ Brennan at the trade deadline in 2015, but spent the 2015-16 season in Sweden. Abbott registered 14 goals and 25 assists in 42 games with Frolunda last season.
