After dominating a crucial stretch on the schedule, Tuesday night’s game against the Florida Panthers sets up to be the perfect trap game for a streaking Blackhawks team.
Florida comes in with a streak of their own – a five-game losing streak; the Panthers have won only two of their last ten, and have fallen well out of the Eastern Conference playoff race. After the trade sending Michael Frolik to Chicago for Jack Skille, the Panthers have struggled to stay in games.
Of course, the other side of the spectrum is the Blackhawks, who have been crushing opponents since January.
But the Panthers are the perfect roster to give the Hawks headaches.
Stephen Weiss and David Booth are both good scoring forwards that cannot be taken for granted, and Tomas Vokoun is a goalie that, when hot, can shut out any team in the league.
The Blackhawks, meanwhile, have a game Wednesday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning. It’s understandable if the Blackhawks are more worried about Steven Stamkos and Martin St. Louis than Weiss and Booth.
But what we’ve seen from these Blackhawks in the last few weeks is that they have stopped taking any opponent for granted. If they come out and quickly put Tuesday night’s game out of reach, they can comfortably worry about Wednesday night as they drive to Tampa.
