Connor Murphy To Miss “A Couple Weeks”

Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy left Tuesday night’s game early with a groin injury that will reportedly cause him to miss “a couple weeks.”

This could be a huge loss for the Hawks. Murphy has emerged as a top-pair defenseman early this season and Duncan Keith has talked about his leadership. He was averaging 20:11 per game with 17 hits and seven blocked shots. He leads Chicago defensemen averaging 2:33 per game on penalty kill duty.

  1. Wonder if the timing had anything to do with the McCoshen trade. They say he’s going to Rockford. But that can change quickly.

  2. Hope he’s back fairly quick, need him. Koekkoek in but what will the pairs be. Need a roster move, either reassign or trade (Perlini) a forward to recall a dman. Ltir Murphy if going to be out long enough an option too but don’t want to see that.

  3. Murphy seemingly is hurt a lot ! Ironically it appeared the Hawks traded Nik. H just as his body was about to break down due his gutsy shot blocks and stellar defensive play in exchange for a guy with lots of promise defensively who cannot stay healthy.

Btw, groins are rarely a two week injury.

So McCoshin to Rockford. Gilbert or Holm coming up.

  4. re: the assumption that one of Gilbert or Holm is coming up to replace Murphy – remember Koekkoek is still on the NHL roster.

That being said, give me 16-17 minutes of Gilbert please.

  5. So we trade a high end prospect that had 30 goals last year for another D man that will never play in the NHL ? Saarela was never given a fair shot to make the team despite what he may have been told by Mgt. Piss poor move by Bowman.

  6. Craig, we have not been the same since the Murphy…. Nick H trade .
Not that Murphy misses much time, just a completely different style of defensive play .
Not quite as stable …so to speak eh .
Who knows what this means ,,,removing a top 3 man out ..been a bit shaky to begin with .
Perhaps Seabs will get some more ice time …oh sheet no !
We will see how it plays out …may have been a nice option to bring a kid named Jokiharju along .
