Corey Crawford Not A Vezina Finalist

On Wednesday afternoon, the finalists for the Vezina Trophy were announced.

And Corey Crawford, once again, is getting ignored and disrespected.

The finalists this year are Braden Holtby (Washington), Ben Bishop (Tampa) and Jonathan Quick (LA). Finalists are determined by votes from the league’s general managers.

Crawford had a better 5-on-5 save percentage than all three finalists. He led the league with seven shutouts and had a better overall save percentage than Quick.

With all due respect to Quick’s very good season, the GMs got this one wrong.

  1. Crawford is a bad ass. He doesn’t give a shit about a Vezina trophy. Crawford is the most fearless goalie in the goalie kingdom.

    ps. use narration by Randall

  2. Good grief.

Well we all knew that was coming.

Quick? You kidding me. Hollywood status nonsense, marketing, name recognition and all that rot.

  3. The award should go to Holtby. I can’t argue with Quick as a finalist. But Crawford makes more sense than Bishop.

  4. Don’t know about my fellow Commited Indians but I’m getting plenty of jazz from folks out there that know I’m a big time Blackhawk fan. Like we deserve this and need to get disrespected because we won too much. Thinking the GMs were pretty small minded about this.

We know Crawford had a banner year, night after night after night. How many of Tab’s headlines had Corey Crawford involved in the narrative. Plenty and many. So the reality is what we know and we can take good solace in that.

They have to award hardware to Kane and it will be interesting to see if he garners MVP. There will be an anti movement and crappy excuses by some. Panarin should be a shoo-in for Calder but who knows these days, the world is upside down.

  5. Bishop & holtby would trade 5 vezinas for one of crow’s cups

Quick knows the cups are the real measure cause he’s done it

    Screw the politics & gm’s

Bet those 3 finalists would all agree crow in a class with them

  6. I would like to see the GM’s write a one sentence explanation justifying their selection and sign their name. The ballots would be secret and names not revealed, but it would force some of them to think about performance numbers.

  7. S’il ne c’était pas blessé en fin de saison il aurait faite partie du top 3 pour être finaliste! … Crawford a livré la marchandise cette saison!

    Go Hawks Go !
    2017 Stanley Cup Champion

  8. Didn’t Elliot have better playoff stats than Crow this year???

Why isn’t he considered … before Crow???

Elliot better than Crow??? Or did his Team/skaters have a lot to do with it???

  9. So the another inexperiened team moves on. Nashville advances and Anahiem goes home. Dallas is the only team out West to have ever lifted the cup.

  10. Playoffs aren’t considered for the Vezina trophy. Are they???? Also, Elliot started less than half of the regular season’s games. We all know your point but Anders Nilsson won’t get you out of the second round. Period.

  11. PC has arrived in the NHL… Crow had an “award winning year”. Just about everyone knows the Hawks suffered from sub-par defensive play this season on many occasions, and yet came up with W’s due to Crawford heroics. His numbers and his play deserved a place among the finalists. Good thing he’s a real man and can slough it off. He knows and we all know he is an ELITE goalie.

  12. Perfect. So happy they just added a second chip on Corey’s shoulder. He’s a competitive sob money goalie who just got further dissed as he has been for all of his career. NHL, you’ve been warned. I love it.

  13. If you watched the games Holtby should be the shoo in. I believe Crow should have received some consideration, but Bishop was great this year, and Quick’s numbers were good. Considering that the Central is a tougher division would have me give Crow the nod over Quick. Crawford had a career season imo.

Mining Man I think you are right about many hockey fans being sick of the Hawks success and enjoying the 1st round exit. When one considers that Hawks fans basically invade all opposing arenas in hordes it is no wonder they are happy to see the Indian Head vanquished. Everyone loves to see a champ dethroned. The memory of Wings fans partying in the UC for years still leaves a bad taste. Too many hockey fans the Hawks(while classy in how they play) ARE the evil empire.

Anyone else watch Boudreau’s face turn multi colors in the 3rd period last night? Think that guy was under some stress? I can hear the bus backing up in Anaheim as I write this. Good for the Pred’s and dare I say it Blues fans too. These are some long standing down trodden folks. Everyone should get a shot at some post season fun every decade or so.

I think the Shaaaarks are flying under the radar this year. The West is now there for the taking as the big dogs are out. Of course, I must pull for Dallas in this round. A pity Seguin is not likely to skate against the Blues.

    Lets Go Hawks!

  14. I really like CC. He has the perfect temperament for being a goaltender and his stats this year certainly warranted being in the top 3 for the Vezina. The NHL GM’s made a bad decision on Quick. Holtby had an amazing season and Bishop also. CC probably doesn’t care about their vote and will most likely be even better next year. “All he does is win”. We love you, CC. You are a WARRIOR.
