Hayes got the call from Rockford in the middle of the 2011-12 season and showed flashes of being able to use his enormous body at the NHL level. He finished the year with five goals and four assists in 31 NHL games and seven goals with 16 assists in 31 AHL games with the IceHogs.
He’ll begin the 2012-13 season in Rockford because of the lockout, but his size makes him an intriguing player for Stan Bowman if/when the final roster is set for the coming NHL campaign.
