Joe Lavin, Defenseman
DOB: 07/17/1989 Ht: 6’3 Wt: 200
Drafted: 5th round (126th overall) in 2007 – USDP
Lavin is coming off a strong season in which he was the captain of Notre Dame’s Frozen Four squad. He scored six goals and added 11 assists in 44 games for the Fighting Irish before signing a two-year entry-level deal with the Blackhawks on April 11, 2011. Lavin joined Rockford for the end of the IceHogs season, and contributed one assist in two games.
At the Hawks prospect camp, Lavin was the most fundamentally sound defenseman in attendance. He was appropriately physical and utilized an effective poke-check while quietly bringing the same leadership to the four days of training that he did at Notre Dame. His maturity is similar to Ben Smith at last year’s camp.
