Prospect Profile: Nick Leddy

Nick Leddy – Defenseman

DOB: 03/20/1991      Ht: 5’11  Wt: 180

Drafted: 1st round (16th overall) by Minnesota in 2009

Acquired: From Minnesota with Kim Johnsson for Cam Barker on 01/12/2010

Signed entry-level contract with the Blackhawks in July 2010.

Scored his first NHL goal @ Buffalo 10/11/10.

Leddy, 19, was acquired from Minnesota with Kim Johnsson in the deal that sent Cam Barker to the Wild last season, and finished his one (and only) season at the University of Minnesota well after battling an injury for a big part of the season. He was the Wild’s first round pick (16th overall) in 2009, and many thought Leddy would return to Minnesota for another season, but he blew away the Blackhawks brass at the team’s prospect camp in July and signed an entry level deal later in the summer.

He’s an elite skater who handles the puck incredibly well and has a great hockey IQ. The former “Mr. Hockey” in Minnesota got the call to start the 2010-11 season in Chicago when Brian Campbell was hurt in the preseason. He is, without question, one of the top blue line prospects in the NHL and is a big part of the future for the Chicago Blackhaws defense.
