Drafted: 1st round (18th overall) in 2012 – Jokerit (Finland)

Teräväinen led the 2014 World Junior Championships with 15 points (2G, 13A) in 7 games as Finland’s captain. Finland won gold.

Teuvo Finland WJCHe is considered one of the early steals of the 2012 Draft, falling to the Hawks at 18 despite being ranked in the top ten by most major scouting agencies.

Hockey Prospectus placed him 11th overall in their preseason prospect rankings. From McKeen’s final draft guide:

“Teravainen possesses hand skills that are unrivalled by any other prospect in this draft, registering the highest marks for his playmaking and puckhandling skills in this year’s draft class.”

From TSN:

“He is elusive and is like a chess player in that he can anticipate moves 3-4 steps ahead of his opponent. Excellent agility and balance & he maneuvers away from danger and opposing checks very well. Great hands in traffic and he’s able to make any type of pass under any circumstance and he has a very good shot that makes him a multiple threat when he’s on the ice.”

    saw this guy play in lake placid (wj) this summer after prospect camp. he made a sweet pass through 2 defenseman to teammate & goal. wicked pass.
