It is now official: Marian Hossa will make his Blackhawks’ debut on Wednesday night in San Jose.
After skating with the team Tuesday, Coach Joel Quenneville confirmed that Hossa will play Wednesday. To accommodate Hossa becoming active, the Hawks will not recall forward Bryan Bickell from Rockford.
Another move being made to make room for Hossa could prove to be more impactful than Bickell’s frequent flier miles. Patrick Kane will move from right wing to left so Hossa can play his natural right wing position.
Hossa, who turns 31 in January, led Detroit in goals last year with 40. He had shoulder surgery this summer, though, and hasn’t played in a game for the Hawks yet.
The Blackhawks signed Hossa to a 12-year, $62.8 million contract on July 2, the first day of the free agent signing period. He has played in, and lost, both of the last two Stanley Cup Finals.
