Niklas Hjalmarsson Returns, Steve Montador’s Season Over?

There were a number of interesting developments on Thursday morning before the Blackhawks host the Dallas Stars.

Niklas Hjalmarsson will return to the lineup. He has been out since Feb. 7 with concussion symptoms.

Coach Joel Quenneville made in an intriguing comment when asked about the future of Steve Montador, who is on IR. Quenneville reportedly said Montador is feeling better but wouldn’t rule him out missing rest of season.

The Blackhawks have also added Carter Hutton to the organization (formally). He was playing on an AHL contract with the Rockford IceHogs, but received a two-way deal from the Blackhawks on Thursday.

We all get to play GM now with the deadline approaching and everyone posturing. If they expect Toews back without problems soon I say lets go for it with a major deal aimed at winning now. Columbus is reportedly asking for a good NHL player, a top prospect and a #1 pick for Nash. For less Carter is also available and possibly Weiss and Getzlaff. There are also second tier forwards. I am thinking go more offense and hang on with what we have on defense with Olsen and Crawford stepping up. Anyone with me on this?

  2. Jack Buoscio says:

No. Carter sucks and isn’t needed. We need a guy like ROy or Gaustad, and if Beauchamin is still on the block, then him on D. Weisss is K, but would prefer Roy. Forget about Nash – it isn’t happening, nor should it. Don’t need his salary on the books for so many years. Too many good prospects in the system already.

  3. Pete says:

I read somewhere that the Hawks system has a lot of prospects likely to be solid NHL players, but that we lack prospects that could be elite players in the league. I honestly don’t have any idea if that is an accurate description. What do you think Tab?

  4. Goldenbladz says:

As far as prospects being moved as long as it isn’t Hayes, Olsen or Saad. I’m ok with it.

  5. Logan Reilly says:

I take it Montador has a severe concussion.

Also, don’t be surprised if Capitals Hamrlik is on the block now. He called out his coach (Hunter) on a radio station. No, I’m not saying he’s the answer…I’m just sayin’ he’s probably gonna be traded.

Also…not Gaustad. He fills a spot we already have…3rd line center. He’s also not that quick on the feet.

Chicago should trade with Colorado on anything. That GM of theirs sucks at trades! lol

  6. Logan Reilly says:

Question…who is Hjalmarsson paired with tonight? Lepisto? Personally, thats where I belierve he should go since Keith/Olsen and Seabs/Leddy are doin’ alright.

  7. Logan Reilly says:

Another question. Why doesn’t Jamal Mayers get more icetime? He seems to end up with between 7 and 8 minutes ice time yet he’s dependable, decent on faceoffs and sticks up for his mates like no other teammate present. I’m not saying 16 minutes but 10-12 minutes is reasonable. I really do not get it.

  8. Pete says:

Isn’t there a rumor that the hawks might trade for Colorado’s Paul Stastney. Saw he had two goals last night so thats probably not happening.

  9. Logan Reilly says:

    Sorry…one more bit. lol

I read Toews injury came from the San Jose game. I’m speculating here but remember that wallop that Joe Thornton hit Toews with?

  10. Pete says:

Or those cheap shots from that punk Vlasic. We need some payback there.

  11. Logan Reilly says:

I also heard Toews was in a car accident today. Why is he driving????

  12. Carol Malik says:

I was there in SJ that night and saw two huge smacks to his head…(TOEWS)…by Thornton AND Vlasic…NO TALENT (skating-wise) THUGS…I wondered why the Hawks let him back on the ice that night…
