On Friday, two Chicago Blackhawks earned NHL honors for their performances in December.
Patrick Kane was named the league’s Number One Star for the second straight month after a dominant December. He recorded at least one point in 13 of 14 games during the month, and posted 25 points (eight goals, 17 assists) during the 14-game point streak that started in November. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Kane became the first player to record multiple point streaks of 10 or more games in the same season since Jaromir Jagr in 2005-06.
Also, goaltender Antti Raanta was named co-Rookie of the Month with Martin Jones of the Los Angeles Kings. Raanta stepped into the crease after Corey Crawford was injured and allowed two or fewer goals in 10 of his 12 December appearances. He earned his first NHL shutout Dec. 30 against the Kings.
