Report: Blackhawks Interested In Pius Suter

Another Suter?

Different family, same game.

Scott Powers at The Athletic published a report on Monday night indicating the Hawks are intested in Swiss center Pius Suter.

Suter, 24, led the Swiss National League with 53 points in 50 games in 2019-20. He scored 30 goals for the Zurich SC Lions. Rumors that he would jump to the NHL appeared in March, and yesterday he formally announced his intention to move to the NHL.

Chicago GM Stan Bowman has a long history of adding free agents from Europe. This offseason he has already signed 21-year-old forward Matej Chalupa, joining a list that also includes Dominik Kubalik. Kubalik spent the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons in the same Swiss National League that Suter is now leaving.

In the same article in The Athletic, Scott Powers quotes Marcus Kruger praising Suter as a teammate and player.

  2. Powers posted this link which shows all Suter’s goals last season. Nice hands, quick release and accurate shot – very nice.

  3. Hopefully this acquisition will mean that Strome will not be signed to a contract extension.

  4. Ian, this is must be part of the reason why Bowman ahd been quite on the Euro players before. Waiting for a good one.

  5. How many players can theHawks sign ?
Maybe it’s a good try to get Suter but we have already many 170 pounds players.
Is there any good players over 200 pounds available?

  6. You know it’s funny because a year ago people were saying “It’s nice that they signed Kubalik but we already have too many 170 pounds players. Are there any good players over 200 pounds available?”

  7. anyone else hearing chelsea dagger after some of those goals in the video? seems like a sign to me….

  8. Tim – you’re really thinking that Strome shouldn’t be extended? His advanced stats for a 2C have always been competitive and he’s a young 2C and a 3rd overall pick. The hockey world wasn’t wrong about him then, he’s rock solid now and improving. Covid will likely see shorter, cheaper contracts for a season or two – saying nothing of the money, you’re just not interested in Strome and feel set with our forward group? They don’t even have Suter signed and he may well end up with another team!
