Blackhawks Sign Forward Tyler Motte

News that was broken by Jason Rubinstein at Michigan Daily was confirmed this afternoon when the Blackhawks announced a three-year entry-level deal with University of Michigan forward Tyler Motte.

Motte, 21, was named one of the ten finalists for the Hobey Baker after a stellar season at Michigan. He finished the season among the nation’s leaders in goals (32) and points (56) in 38 games. He was a key part of the Wolverines’ special teams as well, and led Michigan with 70 blocked shots.

The Blackhawks selected Motte in the fourth round (121st overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft.

  1. Sweet looking forward to seeing Motte at the next level. I felt like he was one of the best players at the NCAA level in the Hawks system. Motte has a PLUS shot

  2. Motte will be on this roster next season. And be counted upon to be quick learner and play a meaningful role. Especially given the impending salary cap hell this summer. I like the kid. I’ve seen him play and he definitely has two-way ability. Some physical limitations, but he should a grindy delight if everything pans out.

  3. Mr. Wall, I am familiar with Caggiula, like him a lot. can you enlighten me about Kempny? Also my take on Motte, same as you all, I can see him getting a shot at the Hawks at some time next year, just as some of the Hogs did this year.

  4. Bill- Czech D man playing in KHL… 6′ 190 lbs…. supposed to be ready to play in NHL as 4th D guy… Dreger compares him to Zidlicky… fwiw

several teams appear to want him

  5. He can. But his contract starts next year. Hed have to sign a PTO like Dahlstrom.l

I’d be hard pressed to think he will. He doesn’t really gain much. Pretty much lose everything you’ve worked hard for academically for a few weeks of hockey.
