Marian Hossa Scores Overtime Game-Winning Goal vs. Nashville

April 24, 2010

The Predators had played the Blackhawks tough, and the series was tied 2-2 coming into a huge fifth game in Chicago. After taking a bad five-minute boarding penalty late in the game, Marian Hossa appeared to be the goat in this critical game.

But thanks to Patrick Kane’s heroics with seconds remaining, the Hawks received second life. But the Hawks would have to kill over four minutes of penalty time in OT to stay alive in the series.

With just second left in the penalty, Brent Sopel took a lap around the offensive zone with the puck, dropped it off to Dave Bolland, and then got the puck back at the blue line.

After a stunning penalty kill of over four minutes in overtime, Hossa left the box and skated straight to the net.

Sopel decided to throw the puck on net and see what happened…

A tipped shot ended up right on Hossa’s stick in front of a wide open net. The easiest one-timer of Hossa’s life won the game and sent the United Center into one of the loudest fits of hysteria the building has seen since Michael Jordan left.

The game was over, and the devastation of the loss would prove to be too much for Nashville. The Blackhawks took the momentum from the huge rally and went on to win it all.
