The thing that upset me the most about the Roenick trade was that he wanted $3 million from the 'Hawks, which I feel was fair.

When the 'Hawks acquired Zhamnov, he wanted $3 million too. After holding out, the Blackhawks organ-I-zation finally caved and gave Zhamnov $3 mil a year...and he was not even half the player that Roenick was. The team would have been better off keeping J.R. and paying him the $3 mil.

I thought it was going to be some boring old post, but it really compensated for my time. I will post a link to this page on my blog. I am sure my visitors will find that very useful.

Ive been involved in hockey for over 50 yrs & have watched a lot of players.
Jeremy is a player who id luv to have on any team ive been associated with. He is outspoken honest and plays with a fire & desire that is lost with many "fat cat" players of today.
the League needs more Jeremy Roenicks.
I have known and met many nhl players in my time just seemed to miss Jeremy when he was around, my loss.
I now live in the town of his friend & last teammate Joe Thornton in St Thomas.
Jeremy have a great retirement you deserve it , then get back into the league somewhere it needs you.

Wow, it's hard to pick. JR was the guy that could score with style and hit someone so hard they would break the glass. He had a big enough set to go up against Probert, for a smaller guy.
Off the ice he was easy to talk to. I was able to meet him many times. He never blew me or my family off. He would sign everything I had. He took time to help a family member, that was sick, put a smile on his face. It's good to see him honored. Thanks JR. You will always be one of my favorites of all time.

We'll agree with Chelios being the soul of those teams while Roenick was the face (and hair)... he was so much fun to watch and rarely finished a game in Chicago without sending his home fans away feeling like they hadn't experienced something special. He provided a lot of highlights, and your Reggie Miller connection is fantastic. They were very much alike.

I remember watching that All Star game from home, Steve, and being proud to have someone as good as JR representing my team. I can't imagine being at the stadium for that game... wow.

Regarding the off-the-ice stuff, I think the biggest issue anyone would have with JR was his comments in the midst of the strike. He became the poster child for the spoiled athletes he was trying to defend, and really took a shot in the PR dept. I wish he hadn't given Wirtz that excuse to deal him, and we'll never know if the Cup Draught would have ended in Chicago if that great team had stayed together. Larmer got one in NY...

I still haven't pulled the trigger on Roenick memorabilia, or a jersey, but remember him being the photo on every story and the headline for most games... whether he played or not LOL

He was inches from a fine every time he saw a microphone, but that was part of the JR charm

On Christmas morning of 95 I remember opening the last gift from my parents and pulling out a freshly stitched Roenick home jersey which is still pulled out for special occasions - playoffs, allstar games, weddings, bar mitzvahs, etc. I was thrilled to wear it the first day back at school.

In my locker, while while normal guys had pictures of cars and scantily clad women, I had hockey players. The famed lineup from the mid '90s with Roenick at the top.

And finally, hanging prominently in my game room over the poker table on this very day is a signed picture of #27 - a small and humble shrine not to the man, but to the team as whole that was dismantled before greatness.

While he was always just a few steps away from letting loose with regrettable words, he was still fun to cheer for.

I remember Jeremy Roenick as an elite scorer. Who knows what could have happened had they kept Larmer with JR, or had JR been allowed to flurish with Amonte, or had Dollar Bill given up the reigns to the club before dying... We should remember JR for his accomplishment and play On the ice, not off. Most atheletes would be dissappointing figures if their lives were all spotlighted like a Super star. I just know that growing up as a Hawks fan, and having my father take me to the '91 Allstar Game at the old Chicago Stadium, allowed me to watch JR play some of the best hockey I have ever seen, with some of the best players of that era. Thanks to my Dad for taking me to that Allstar Game, and planting the seed of what great hockey should look like.
