World Cup of Hockey Preview: Team Czech Republic

We’re getting closer to the 2016 World Cup of Hockey teams opening their training camps, and so we continue our previews with Team Czech Republic.

At first glance, Team Czech Republic has the toughest draw in the tournament in Group A. And they won’t be picked by many to make it out of the Round Robin stage of the tournament. But Blackhawks fans will want to tune in to get an extended look at defenseman Michal Kempny, who will be in Chicago this season.

Team Czech Republic recently named Montreal’s Tomas Plekanec their captain.

Saturday, Sept. 17 – Team Czech Republic @ Team Canada, 8 PM, ESPNEWS
Monday, Sept. 19 – Team Europe @ Team Czech Republic, 3 PM, ESPN
Thursday, Sept. 22 – Team USA @ Team Czech Republic, 8 PM, ESPN2

The top two teams from the round robin advance to the semifinals, which will be single elimination on Sept. 24-25. The final round is a best of three series with games being played between Sept. 27 and Oct. 1.

  1. Guess is now out so hopefully more ice time for Kempny.

    The Czechs will likely be out after the round robin.
