Having guys like Pirri, Lindholm and Bowey on the taxi squad with Rfd. getting ready to start and let youngsters get ice time there, who wouldn’t be playing, makes sense.

    Easy moves to make.

  • February 3, 2021 at 4:47 pm

Is this a prelude to getting him one game so he can be placed on the non protected list for the expansion draft?

Wow – we are getting one of the Bowery Boys in the lineup. Nice! I don’t know if you guys/gals are like me, but I can’t wait for the next game!

  • February 4, 2021 at 7:28 am

Let 74 play and see if he outperforms 27.

If so, the next move is an easy one

How good would the D corps look with Jokiharu eating up big minutes like he is in Buffalo now?

Meanwhile 92 is off learning how to sew quilts, or whatever soft hockey players do when on IR.

Solid trade by Pres Of Hockey Ops.

  • February 4, 2021 at 7:43 am

RE: Perimeter Player I did notice Buffalo’s last game that Joki was scratched for some reason, but he was playing 20 minutes a game before that.

  • February 4, 2021 at 10:16 am

Tonight will be the biggest test so far for the Young Hawks squad…iff They perform and win that game it will be a really big thing …let see iff they are ready .
My personal feeling..they lose 4-3 regular time .but wish to see them win 4-1 with DCat having 3 pts . Lucky we didn’t listen to those who want DCat trade for a draft pick …because he had a mediocre year 2020 ….following DCat in past 5-6 year I knew he would perform like he did in last 6-7 years
What a great player the Hawks have with Him and Strome …Strome …another great move from Bowman …with Murphy….and maybe Nylander ( I wish )

  • February 4, 2021 at 10:16 am

    @PP: “sew quilts”. Good one.

If Nylander ever wants to learn what it takes he should watch clips of Elias Pettersson. He’s listed at only 176 pounds and as he has progressed the target on his back has only gotten bigger and bigger. Yet, he scraps/battles/competes like a true Viking. He took a beating against LV in playoffs last year, but never flinched.

    More Vikings please.

Looks like the Wild shut down for a few games-these missed games could get interesting deciding playoff teams and thus draft picks.
Probably go by a percentage if they can’t make them all work after regular season?
(I know they have a few extra days built in)

Bettman Cup Standings (Biggest Loser) pts / gp
    1) 0.300 Sens
    2) 0.545 Wings
    3) 0.750 Sharks
    4) 0.778 Yotes
    5) 0.889 Preds (lol)
    6) 0.889 Rangers
    7) 0.889 Islanders
    8) 0.889 Kings
    9) 0.909 Ducks
    10)0.909 Hawks

It looks like Ottawa has the #1 spot pretty much locked up. I’ve seen them a couple times and they truly awful – another level of bad. A bad team with bad goaltending.

Most likely Detroit will have the #2 position solidified by mid season if not sooner.

Every other team on the list will probably shuffle up and down. The only surprise is I though the Islanders would be a contender and with most of the season still to be played I expect they will rise above the suck-list.

    Jordyhawk and Hammer:

Weren’t you two guys on record saying Jokiharu got traded because Coach Gilligan saw no future in him and the Great and Powerful Oz bought that?

So Chicago got stuck with Martha Stewart while Buffalo has a top 4 defenseman.

  • February 4, 2021 at 12:11 pm

    No doubt missing joker.
Healthy scratch and playing third pair minutes in buffalo.

  • February 4, 2021 at 12:18 pm

    20 minutes a game is 3rd pair?
He is also on Buffalo PP.

    You sure about ‘healthy scratch’?

    The above says otherwise.

Jokiharju has upper body injury, but lets just trash him anyways.

  • February 4, 2021 at 12:29 pm

From the Buffalo news 2 days ago:
“In Tuesday night’s game against Ottawa, Krueger again tried to work in 7 defenseman. Lawrence Pilot was pushed back into the lineup playing alongside Rasmus Ristolainen, and Dahlin played with Montour as the other top 4 pair. That left three depth defenders-McCabe, Jokiharju and Miller-to rotate in and out of the lineup, mostly in depth minutes against weak competition.”

Mixing metaphors, when you’re using 7 defenseman, you don’t have one QB.

Nothing from the Buffalo media remotely suggests Joki is top 4, calling him a depth piece. Also, 20 mins of TOI is likely more indicative of all the problems Buffalo has had with COVID on the blue line.

So no, you’re wrong again, but don’t let a few minutes of research get in the way of an unhappy narrative.

Just so we know in advance, what’s the next Stan Sucks post about to give us time to research the facts for you??

    Against Ottawa no less.

  • February 4, 2021 at 12:30 pm

Has played 7 games. One point. Averaging 17:06 minutes. 7 blocks. 4 hits.
    He’s the definition of average.

I’m a fan of him by the way. But to constantly spew nonsense like he’s a top flight dman is just dumb takes.

They can fire bowman and Colliton into the sun and I wouldn’t care.

So by all means keep complaining about a nothing Trade.

Simple as this Murphy is better then him by miles. Boqvist is already better then him. Mitchell will be better then him.

  • February 4, 2021 at 12:32 pm

    @Aurora hawk

    Pilot isn’t with buffalo anymore.

  • February 4, 2021 at 12:33 pm

Well I thought I was reading something from 2 days ago. Anyway, I wouldn’t know a Buffalo roster player except Dahlin and Joki if they sat next to me in the airport.

Speaking of Ristolainen – he was the 8th pick in the 2013 draft and was projected to be Buffalo’s stud #1 d-man. His offense started coming around a little bit in his 2nd season (20 pts in 78 gms) and by his 3rd season his offense was very good (41 pts in 82 gms) and since then he’s averaged about 0.5 ppg – very good for a d-man. But – his defensive game left a lot to be desired – not a big proponent of +/- because it’s so highly dependent on team circumstances – but his +/- since his first full season has been -32, -21, -9, -25, -41 and then last season it was a respectable -2. He was so bad defensively that Buffalo decided to use the #1 overall pick in 2018 to draft Rasmus Dahlin to be their future #1 stud d-man.

Well, since they drafted Dahlin, Risto’s defense has come around and he’s holding down the #1 d-man role and Dahlin is now on the 2nd pair trying to improve his defensive game.

Risto, the 8th overall pick just like Boqvist, took 6 years to improve enough defensively to be a legit #1 d-man. Patience paid off for Buffalo. Let’s hope patience will pay off for the Hawks.

Bowman arguably did a good job in the offseason with Suter, and Kurash, and some others. Hawks really missing Toews in OT, and generally would be dangerous with him and Dach.
Note on spelling for some posters:
“loose” is when something is hanging free, etc. and “lose” is what you do when not winning. I think “lose” is usually the word you are looking for here.

  • February 4, 2021 at 6:03 pm

Evan, I learned the lesson of lose/loose years ago. I was having some buddies over for a poker game and the host always set the rules – i.e. wild cards or not, limit on bets, etc. At the time I worked in a computer room that had printers that used that big continuous form paper so I printed out like a 10 foot banner that I hung on the wall. I meant it to say “only 1 rule – don’t let the host lose” only I spelled it “loose”. Yeah – I didn’t hear the end of that for many years. I still keep in touch with a couple of the guys and one of them asks me every once in a while if I ever got loose. That happened like 40 years ago … c’mon man – let it go already. :=)

Avalanche, Wild, and Devils have shutdown all hockey operations. Could be time to shut the league down until they are not under these COVID protocols and Contact tracing. In theory if 1 player tests positive shouldn’t they be placing everyone on the team into COVID protocol?

Jokiharu plays 17-18 minutes a game.
    So says stats on NHL.

Not bad for a ‘depth’ guy.

Saw him run the PP vs NYR.

The Buffalo announcer, the guy that sounds like Tennessee Tuxedo, called him a top 4 guy.

So exactly how am I wrong, Aurora?
You are quoting from a newspaper.

I am using NHL stats and s veteran announce who has called Buffalo play by play for many many years.

Best check the mirror my brother.

  • February 5, 2021 at 9:40 am

    According to NHL stats:
Buffalo played 69 games last year due to pandemic.
    Jokiharu played in all 69.
He was a minus 6. Avg 17-18 min TOI.

I thought as you stated, ‘depth guys’ only played sporadically?

But hey don’t let facts get in way of a good narrative.
