On Wednesday afternoon the Chicago Blackhawks announced the club has assigned nine players to the IceHogs: Brett Connolly (who cleared waivers today), Jakub Pour, Josiah Slavin, Michal Teply, Andrei Altybarmakian, Louis Crevier, Isaak Phillips, Michael Krutil and Lukas Reichel.
Reichel, the Hawks’ first-round pick last year, looked good in preseason action over the past couple weeks but he’ll still head to the AHL to begin his professional career.
And that’s absolutely the right call.
The Blackhawks have too many bodies for their NHL roster right now, so sending Reichel to Rockford where he can get more consistent ice time and work on special teams units will benefit him and the organization in the long-term.
Chicago’s camp roster is now at 36 players.
