Playing Thursday instead of Wed is a break for us as it gives us more time for Toews and Bolland to recover and for the team to adjust to the time change. Last year we had to rush off to Vancouver and our series started right away and it took us 3 games to get our feet/legs set. We weren’t recovered from pushing to make the playoffs and with Bolland’s injury and by then Vancouver had a three game lead. This time we get the extra day. Its a small point but I think it helps more than people realize.

In fact last year I recall we played our last game on Sunday and the playoffs started in Vancouver for us on Wed This time our last game was Sat afternoon and we don’t play in Phoenix until Thursday night. Last year we weren’t recovered physically or mentally from pushing to the last game to make it. This year there was no real pressure in our last game as we already had the 6 seed locked up and now we have 4 days between the end of the season and the first playoff game vs 2 days last year. Plus we are playing Phoenix not Vancouver. I think these are huge differences and I personally feel a lot of it(wed start) had to do with the fact that we were defending Stanley Cup champions and Canada’s TV schedule(isn’t wed night “Hockey night in Canada) so the League was pushing us out front for ratings purposes. Anyone agree or disagree.

Its just an expression. Obviously I mean the Blackhawks. I am just a fan so I guess I shouldn’t use the word “we”.

GF could you be more off-topic? pete has an interesting point and you niggle over his pronoun choice?

phoenix has a hot goalie, but our skaters should dominate long stretches of the series. hawks in 6.

Thanks Travis. Its just something I noticed that I thought might be worth discussing in terms of the Hawks having a better chance in the playoffs this year as compared to last year. I should also add that its just my opinion that the Hawks appeared tired at the beginning of the Vancouver series last year. Obviously I don’t know that for a fact.

The last thing I want is the language police watching what I say!I am a fan and will say” we” when talking about my team!Last time I checked Quebec still only had one team. Not everyone here is an english major, but I sure bet they are Hawks fans.

Anyways, the point I wanted to make earlier. The moment when Detriot tied the game up did you see the smirk on Q’s face?Play the right way and get what the hockey gods deliver !The Hawks tried to win, and were willing to face Nashville. You have to admire the confidence!

    Question for everyone?

Do you feel that when/ if Toews comes back we should play Toews Kane and Hossa together? I think we should. With as well as the line of Sharp Kruger and Stalberg has played together I don’t see the need to bust it up. Kinda think it would be a natural fit for Tazer when he comes back to slide into the Kane Hossa line. What about it.

Ryan,I think it is worth a try.Q will try it and determine what is next if it isn’t working. You can’t just blow everything up that has been working of late can you?

  • April 8, 2012 at 8:45 pm

I don’t. Think you can blow everything up Darcy. Personally I’d be excited to see Toews Kane and Hossa together so I was just making sure it would be the smartest decision for the team. I think it does make the most sense logically if Bolland is healthy as well.

  • April 8, 2012 at 8:47 pm

Double spaced after don’t and a period was auto added. Supposed to be I don’t think you can blow everything, just to be clear.

I like Kane and Hossa together out there and I think they should stay together as much as possible even when Toews comes back.

Regarding lines-I have been one of biggest Bruno haters all year…
But really don’t mind the balance of the lines right now and the chances Bruno is getting w/ kane/Hossa…
that being said- put Toews on 4th line w/ Mayers/Frolik/Hayes/Bollig – and realistically Hawks have 3- #2 lines and 1-3rd line (last line)… If Saad joins Hawks and Toews line at some point in playoff run, the Hawks have 4 legitimate # 2 lines- now that is depth!!!

Sounds Crazy…. Just think about it! and once again Hawks can double shift Toews to 1st line and PP/PK to get his full 20/minutes when he is ready!

    Good points Wall.

I guess the question(s) I have for you are. Is the good play of late just young guys coming around or is it more a continuity or chemistry that is being built on each line. Without Toews Coach Q hasn’t nearly changed up the lines as much and I think the guys are getting more familiar with their line mates.

If you put Toews Kane and Hossa together then that does slide Kane back out on the wing, but I think those 3 together give us a potentially lethal top line and it will certainly get Phoenix’s attention and could open things up more for Kruger Sharp and Stalberg line.
