Good luck Adam. Light it up in Ott.

Thinking TJ comes back strong. Boston puttering along, needs a shot in the arm.
TJ, Strome and Shaw’s $$ for DeBrusk.

Will think of some more possible moves.

I am really glad to see him going to a team that will use him on the ice not on the bench . Wish him good luck and to stay healthy . I still think it’s a mistake from the Hawks .

For whatever reason Gaudette never got a shot on the richly talented forward hockey team known as the Hawks. Hopefully he gets that shot at Ottawa and if so makes the most of it.

Like Hawks2010, I think the Hawks made a mistake w/Gaudette.

Strome sat by his 3rd coach, next to go?

Obviously I echo the mistake sentiment on Gaudette. We could all be wrong but to be fair none of us, including the Chicago Blackhawk braintrust, ever saw him play on a line and take a few consecutive shifts and games to see where he is at or what he could do.

Very little risk to pick him up so he might just be tried ion a whim from Ottowa. I don’t think we gave up much but I also watch as the Hawks run some very mediocre lines out there every game. WHy not give him 3-4 games to assess if he is truly worse than 86, 22, 52, or 17 ? Wouldn’t have been too risky to see. But I’m not the coach.

Anyone missing Jeremy or Stan yet?

It seemed like a great chance for him and the Hawks once he got healthy. It didn’t work out and like so many others, I am puzzled and don’t think he got a fair chance. However, there have been other players that the coaches gave up on that I liked and the coaches were right. Jeremy Morin comes to mind. He played hard but never got good. Gaudette must have had some issues to which we fans aren’t privy. If he was a good guy who just didn’t get a chance, I wish him well and am glad he got picked up and will be pulling for him.

Gaudette must not have shown well in practice – that’s my best guess because I never got to see him enough to make an objective assessment

Chances are he is a defensive liability whose offense doesn’t make up for it but maybe he puts it together in OTT

I didn’t like that the Hawks didn’t give him more of a chance – even Brandon Pirri got more

    Good luck to him

Watched Rockford tonight. Connolly suffered what looked like a very bad knee injury, had to be escorted off dragging his injured leg. Top line was Reichel centering Nylander and Connolly. Reichel was not impressive and Nylander was exactly the same as when he was here, lots of non involved floating. Teply was probably the best looking forward. Regula was decent and gets a ton of ice time as he is the lone D Man on the powerplay. Galvas is good and gets his shot through as he skates very well also. Mitchell also played a lot and was solid moving the puck quickly. Beaudoin seems to be sliding down the pecking order, not very physically noticeable at all and was not on either powerplay unit. DeIia was in net and was ok.I was not very impressed overall with the Hogs. Not much stands out.

Habs are talking to Jeff Gorton – it looks like the Hawks are gonna miss out an obvious candidate for GM

Are they even seriously looking for a Hockey Ops guy and a GM – did they even talk to Gorton?

I thought he would have been a good hire but it doesn’t look like he’ll be available

Gaudette worked extremely hard in the off season to get ready for his chance in Chicago unfortunately bad management strikes again.

Toews plays 20 minutes a game and he is doing absolutely nothing offensively. So much for missing an entire season and being able to rebound to the Toews of the good old days.

Is the Toews and Kane Stanley Cup window still open?

Think of the bright side…..there is always next year and Seth Jones will only be 28 years old.

Wrap, We knew they were not going to proactively go out there to get a legitimate team president and G.M. who would immediately identify that they are a disaster throughout their organization. Maybe Marc Bergevin will take over here. The Toews/Kane window is closed. The trib had an article about reducing Toews ice time and responsibilities. Something has to give with him. He plays on a top line, powerplay, and penalty kill and is still generating league worst statistics.

Tim W: I also caught most of that game and Nylander was still: Nylander!! No physicality either and Evan Barrett was trashed by some Wolves player. Reichel was unimpressive. Did like Regula.

My only issue with dumping Gaudette, not because he was a decent player or not was this “interim” GM is starting to make hockey decisions about the future of the club, Crevier signing I could see but when the “interim” is assessing players and deciding their future with the club, it sends out a message that Wirtz is going to sit on his thumbs once again and not even look for a replacement. Horrible optics, once again. Perhaps its time to put the club on the market and sell to somebody that actually wants to win instead of resting on their laurels with the past.

Wrap looks like Gorton might be Habs next Pres. of Hockey Operations, would’ve been a great choice. Definitely get the feeling the Gm job is Davidsons to lose at the moment, could see a Hossa type move to fill MacIsaacsVP/ asst. Gm role if he does become Gm on a permanent basis. Do they really intend on having hiring a president of Hockey operations or not, is a question to be answered that may change things yet.

Looks like the King with Crawford in associat role combo could continue into next season roles next season as well, if the players continue to play hard for them.

  • November 28, 2021 at 8:01 am
    Permalink

With or without the “interim” label, Davidson is the person filling the GM role and performing that function. One of the things the GM does is execute player transactions including moving players between Hawks & Hogs. The Hawks weren’t going to play him and don’t want to pay him to sit, so there was a simple decision: send him to Rockford (if he clears waivers) or lose him and his cap hit if someone claims him.

If the “interim” GM shouldn’t make this simple transaction, what is he supposed to do? Danny-boy clearly said Davidson will be considered among other candidates. How is he supposed to show his capabilities if he isn’t allowed to make relatively trivial decisions such as this?

  • November 28, 2021 at 9:59 am

Uncle Bill: Good point regarding transactions between Hawks-Hogs, however this organization is being run by “interims” who are deciding on who plays and who stays, not saying that Gaudette is/would be a difference maker for the future but it would be nice for a Hockey Guy to determine if indeed maybe Gaudette(I know the odds of that are very low) could have possibly been an asset to the club. I don’t want a StanBo “intern” making decisions on personnel at this point it certainly would “appear” that Wirtz hasn’t talked to anybody yet regarding the open position. Why would you hire a guy who learned from StanBo?? What the heck does this “interim” know about scouting talent?? Right now everything is rosy, team’s playing hard, you can watch them again instead of shutting off the TV but most of us know that the club in its present state cannot sustain success against playoff heading teams.

Uncle Bill we all know what a GM is capable of doing. Signing a player, Crevier, waiving a player, Gaudette. We just would like a “Hockey Guy” making those decisions.

    Crazy conspiracy theory coming up.

Wilson gets sick.(I hope he’s alright) Out remainder of the year. SJ can’t wait and appoint permanent GM. Wilson gets healthy appointed Hawks GM.

I have been critical about him not winning anything in SJ so just thoughts fluttering in my head.

Hammer, Great points on what is going on recently. My problem about the Gaudette deal is how they came to the decision. You have a new interim Head Coach who admittedly does not know Gaudette and a junior G.M. in the wings who was previously directly responsible for who knows what. I had never heard of him or read about him being at practices or around the team. So that leaves us to conclude that this is a Marc Crawford decision, who also never saw Gaudette more than 1 game in a row,and that he is in charge with King being a cheerleader on the bench. I have a sinking feeling that we are headed for a future of No Team President,Davidson as the G.M.,and a King/Crawford combo behind the bench with that new old guy assistant and probably Brian Campbell as a defense assistant. I can assure you that young Danny Wirtz and his new diversified WOKE front office want no part of real Hockey people coming in here and ripping the guts out of this organization. Given that reality,I wish Rocky would just sell the team and move on.

TW – that’s a bleak picture and although it’s certainly possible that’s the case there is an alternative scenario where that’s not the case although believe me I’ve had those same thoughts as you

If Danny had rushed out and hired a VP of Hockey Ops and/or a new GM perhaps we’d all be saying that they should take their time and get it right – there are and will be other qualified candidates other than Gorton maybe even better candidates

And I hope that’s what they’re doing – just because there is no news on that front doesn’t mean there isn’t action behind closed doors however right now I agree it’s hard to be optimistic that they’ll eventually do the right thing when it comes to Hockey Ops and GM and Head Coach

Maybe Danny will surprise us – we’ll see

Hogs/Wolves- agree w most comments here. Reichel and rest of Hogs looked weak/timid versus mature Wolves guys.

Reichel- looked worse I have seen all year… but I will add- he is a skill/quick player… who needs to play with speed/and or skilled players to be effective… Hogs do NOT have a lot of those guys (neither do Hawks). BUT Reichel – is NOT 88 good to drive play. Only thing he is gonna learn in AHL- is to avoid getting killed.

Barrett- I forget who on this thread Loves him,,, But He is life long AHLer. I see nothing there.

Regula- I do like his shot from blue line… size in D zone- weakness- appears to be Skating… could be effective if he skated w/ rock solid D man- with ++ skating to cover his ass.

Really sad– most of the SB highly drafted D guys- are really being surpassed by the LOWER round Picks on the D side of puck…

lesson there- D guys like goalies can be found/ groomed/ taught with great coaching/ Systems. Think about how many D guys Nashville/Bolts groomed recently… I have not fact checked the “Rounds” picked in…

so If I were to re-do last several Drafts where- Hawks drafted D guys- early/often – to little success… I would have drafted Forwards.

With aging/19/88 – and nothing on the farm-Hawks offense looking pretty bad for near future-

It’s not uncommon today that headcoaches play more of an overseer role and delegate authority to assistants on bench and running practices. Obviously an associate is thought of as more in that regard. So with Crawfords familiarity with the players it’s no real surprise he is playing a bigger role. King seems to be putting his mark on this team and the results so far are hard to complain about, although surprisingly many still find a way. Looking forward to that improvement continuing this season, whatever on final standings.

Ian – in the Hawks specific case with the Beach situation and Crawford’s past it makes a ton of sense to have King the face of the coaching staff and Crawford being a sort 1B head coach and the results so far have been good – that was smart – no real complaints except the questionable handling of Gaudette and that is probably as much Davidson as the coaches

But I am concerned that Danny will not hire the best people for Hockey Ops and GM and maybe only hire one person for both jobs which would be a mistake I believe – I hope my concern is ill founded

Wrap they may bring in a more businessman type as overseer of hockey ops to lessen Wirtz’s responsiblities and run the day to day business. Rocky said before all this broke they were searching for a replacememt Danny Wirtz. Then have a similar setup as McDonough and Bowman to run the hockey end, whether its Davidson or not as Gm remains to be seen. One thing i do believe the Wirtz’s will play a huge part in deciding how the on ice direction of the team will go, regardless of who is hired.

Yes people Stan left the cupboard empty. Reichel might be the only “talent” that Rockford has. Soderholm might turn into a future goalie also, but all of Stan’s vaunted smurf Dmen might not
see the NHL on a regular basis. So that’s a total of 2 in the Rock that might make it

Has anyone noticed Adam Boquist has the same amount of goals as all the Hawk Dmen combined?

Did KD even shop Gaudette around the league, Ottawa wasn’t the only team looking for cheap secondary scoring. I think getting anything for Strome isn’t in the cards either, that ship appears to have sailed.

And it does look like KD is our next GM which is crazy on many levels. It’s heartbreaking to see but it looks like a total rebuild from top to bottom is in order.

BLUTO, I agree with your assessment of the Hogs from last night. After watching the runs being taken at Reichel I would almost rather see him come up soon and start him out with some combo of Khaira,Hardman,Johnson and play him on the 2nd powerplay unit. The Wolves had many angry grown men who were headhunting and looking to fight. Barratt was beat to a pulp and directly after Beaudin backed way down when challenged to drop the gloves at center ice. Hogs need some grown men to protect the talent.

Craig, I think deep down we all knew that a proactive aggressive hire was never going to happen with this organization. I will go out on a limb here and say that the improved play these last couple of weeks is fools gold and is not sustainable. The tweets that have been made are what we have all been screaming for since Colliton took over. These players aren’t dumb. They know what they have to do to keep a majority of their games against middle of the road to poor teams close. I have been wrong before so time will tell.

  • November 28, 2021 at 5:30 pm
    Permalink

Wrap we talked about that before Colliton was fired that Crawford would not be a good choice for head coach. I think there is a good chance King remains as head coach, Crawford obviously his right hand but that is not an unusual situation in todays world with coaches new to the league.

Gorton woulda been a very good choice to take over, there never was anything indication the Blackhawks asked permission to talk to him, so not sure he was ever considered or not. Rocky Wirtz said when Bowman was fired that a search for a new Gm would be conducted right away. He said about a year ago a search to for a President was being done to allow Danny Wirtz to step back from day to day business of the organization. Be interesting to see how that all plays out, if hiring a President, you would think he would be first hire, then hire the new Gm, especially if he is a knowledgeable hockey guy.

TimW, if they are beating teams they should and struggling against teams who are the top teams, that says the coach has them playing up to their level not fools gold. Nobody expected they were serious contenders this season. If they keep showing improvement and compete most/every game woukd be a big step up.
