    Is Barry Smith stepping away?

Brookbank is a good guy and hope he does well. Met him and his brother when he had his day with the Cup in these parts in 2013.

If he helps out the PK that’d be awesome – the PK is losing the Hawks games

Baby steps. Winning 3 cups in 6 years is just about impossible in the NHL but the Hawks did it. Now they have to rebuild and part with important pieces like Seabrook and Keith. The new NHL is speed and size which the Hawks are desperately lacking.
Delia looks amazing so far. Colliton wants Brookbank as he has worked with him in Rockford. There will be some pain before it gets better as a Hawks fan.

This should be good for Dahlstrom, Forsling, Carlsson and Raddysh who all played big minutes for him in Rockford. So he has a good sample size of their strengths and weaknesses.

Not being privy to the rationale used and who the decision makers are I will assume optimistically that Colliton is the main driver in not only Brookbank coming on board but also recent personnel moves. The “Colliton is an inexperienced dolt and in over his head” mob has quieted down lately and not that I’m suggesting that Colliton is destined to be a HOF coach but I don’t subscribe to the notion that a 33 year old guy with no prior NHL coaching experience is necessarily out of his element and doomed to fail. He seems like a pretty bright guy to me and if he has now transitioned into more than filling out the lineup card and running the bench during games – that seems like a good thing to me.

Great post ER – totally agree

With Davidson expected to go to RKF when Joki returns and now Brookbank up (who as mentioned knows players like Forsling) I wonder if they’re going to keep Forsling here and rotate D men to the press box on a merit system

By my count there are still just 7 D with both Joki and Forsling on the roster

Sikura to Rockford with Martinsen, could go with 13 forwards or recall someone else.
Agree Colliton loooking like ge may be the right guy for now but doesn’t mean he is the guy for a cup run when that time comes again, though.

Wrap moving a defenseman by the deadline almost seems like thats happening, whether it’s Forsling or someone else or more than one.
Sending Sikura down seems more like that want him to br part of the future and develop rather than try to move him and showcase him.

If Colliton is so smart as to personnel, I have a suggestion — fire Bowman and name Colliton GM.

Bowman’s moves the last couple weeks are not rocket science; the vast majority of us have been advocating these for awhile, before Bowman started making them.

Colliton is a green, unproven coach. Maybe it was time for Q to go, but to say Colliton is the right coach is unknown. His bench game management so far is not so hot.

So glad that Sikura is being sent down. He is not ready but I think it has to do more with his strength. He looks like a skinny noodle out there.

I can see Kunitz traded soon. Return to Pens sounds aboot right.

Also I said aboot a month ago Kurashev is the one prospect to keep an eye on. The World Juniors has been a place for him to shine.

Hope Jokiharju gets the gold. Go Finland!

Just to be clear – I didn’t say today or anytime that Colliton is “the right coach”. My point was that he shouldn’t be written off as the wrong coach based on his age and inexperience, which was the mob mentality holding sway in this and other message boards until the Hawks won a couple games.

Regarding Bowman being fired – I’m not against it. Regarding the head coach having some say in who he has on the roster – I’m in favor of that but that isn’t the same thing as suggesting the coach should assume the duties of GM.

I think it’s fair to challenge my opinions and I should be expected to defend those opinions but not a twisted straw man.

  • January 5, 2019 at 3:27 pm

I think Colliton with his reportoire with younger players and veterans buying in to his system looks like a good choice for now. Like i said it is no given he is the guy who is right for taking a team to the next level and being cup contenders again.

Ian – good point about trading a D man and it might be Forsling but I think it will be and should be Keith

His value is still high especially this TDL for a team ramping up for a cup run and the cap hit is manageable – I imaging there will significant interest in him if the Hawks are willing to listen and how could they not be willing given their trajectory for getting back to contenders – when and if they do get back to being contenders Keith would be a role player albeit with veteran leadership (not enough to keep him here IMO – Toews and Kane will still be here and will still be providing leadership)

And as Ian said impressive showing all around for Hawk prospects – there’s hope!

Oilers get walloped 4-0 by lowly Kings. Looks like they are missing Caggiula even before before he puts on an Indian Head sweater. Hey Chiarelli, how about this deal. We’ll reverse the trade if you give us your 2nd round pick this year.

We have more then a couple very good players in World Juniors. Not saying they all make it, I think most will. Its fine if some of them do not/FW because we should be stacked in a few yrs, we wont be able to keep everyone. I wasnt thinking we would have that many do that good.

Buckaroo and Boqvist are going to be soo good.

  • January 6, 2019 at 5:20 am

Not sure who would want from draft. One wk people say kakko good, then not, now score a goal and hes better then Hughes. Like to have 4 or 5 guys we would be happy with, so who ever we get its a good thing.

I think 16 and 17 year olds in the WJC will struggle unless you are at that extreme top of the skill set-like a McDavid or Crosby. Toews was an example of how his play in WJC changed from a younger player to more mature returnee.

Kakko did OK but some of his teammates looked better, but they were 1 or 2 years older. Hughes may have and might have had amazing stats if fully healthy. Definite 1st-#2 thru 6 may be based on team draft order/ needs and how these 17 year old kids finish the season. (ie-crapshoot)
We need a Laine, Ovechkin clone–is that too much to ask? Or Hughes.

Yeah Mo can’t argue Kakko came through when needed. Drawing alot of praise. I saw what looked like times he didn’t want to play, just kinda went through motions so not sure what to make of him.

Sounds like we’re the same vintage and I went to my one and only Hawk game at the UC in 2009 and it was such a great experience (it helped that that was a soon to be cup winning team even though they lost the game that night)

    Enjoy!

Yea its not a for sure thing just because players are in World Juniors. Weve seen what Buckaroo looks like, as a rookie with no experience right out of the gate and you have to think, not for sure, that the other Four Horsemen are good like Buckaroo. Let alone having played around 200 games for a defensemen.

For the top 5 skill pick we do need a player like that, Panarin/just hes 27 not 20, with a high pick. This is two top 5 skill picks in a row. Have to lucky to be bad, record, on ‘those’ yrs when those guys are there.

Hall61, thats sweet my first game was NOV 2013 after we won the Cup and celebrated all summer long. Got tickets when first available in AUG and went to two games CAL and WIN. We tied the first game 2-2 on a goal by Hoss and I was sitting 2nd row. It was a PP goal and Hoss skated towards where I was sitting and I screamed/face expression-first game at UC and all, and Hoss looked at the crowd before he did his thing after scoring, saw my face and reacted the ‘scream/yell’ face I had. It was funny.

I dvr the game so I played it, could see myself in the stands a few times during game, and the tv zooming in on Hoss face after he scored that goal, we could see he copied my face exp.

It was special time because that yr 2013 we did what no other team in history of hockey did, 21-0-3 smakhed the record of 16 games by 24 games and did everything we did that yr, celebrate all summer, then go to UC for two games in same wk. Eating Malnatis and Mr Beef is heaven after winning the Cup and seeing a game at Stadium/UC.

Make sure you get those foods, they go well with the Stadium/UC/rink.

Forgot we tie the CAl game 2-2 and dint get the win, I shouldnt have gone for that beer at intermission. We won the WIN game Sharpy scored the 4th goal with a nice one timer top shelve and we were up 4-0, cant rememeber if we won 4-0 4-1, same thing. That game I sat like 10 seats done from Rocky/wife/daughter and meet him during the 1st period. There wont ever be as special of a yr time doing that in 2013. What a Journey.

Hall, whatever you do, do everything you can even if your tire. just do it, as many things as you can and donot worry about money. Its worth it. If you get food at rink get there early for the food and stock up with beer during 2nd period. Get your ‘freinds’ to buy extra beers so you have what you prefer. Do not hold back when you go, do everything. When the Blackhawks score a goal like I saw Sharpy do that game, let out your natural tribal scream.

They should bring back the no crease goal allowed in NHL again, it will help goalie interference no calls/not waived off goals and some of the cheap shit in front of the net. Ohh he was in front of the net so I can cross check 65 in the neck/nose ot 19 in the back break in half horseshit.

They need to get rid of the free bi round for NFL. Every team should have to earn it by playing same amount of rounds.

Thats like saying the 1 seed get a by for the first 2 wks of playoffs. How many time does a 8 seed beat a 1 seed. Not that many but more then they should, a lot more.

Then you would have the NFL teams in playoffs play who they should, by records not by divisions. Its sick. PHI did great to win super bowl last yr and deserved it. There not going to do shit this yr and should have to play NO in first round.

I even had to tell the bar tender to put the gold medal game on last night then two flatlanders, which after they got her to do it didnt even watch they were talking like fags, change the channel back to DAL/SEA. Theres something seriously worng when you see two guys in their 55/60s with a little asian girl, I guess they adopted. just makes me sick. Read the bible.

We must be throwing this game. We beat them what 8 or 9 times in a row and right now theyve won a lot in a row. So, we play 14/22/30.

PIT would not have gotten through central division, once.

Lets not forget PIT couldn’t compete (got smashed by BOS, smashed) with the top 5 teams after 2009 to 2015. It want until the salary cap watered down the top 5 teams until there basically was none left, did they do good. Add were lucky/more then good and lucky kind of thing. PIT wasnt ever a top 5 team (other then 2009 maybe 08) it was when the cap took the depth away from the top teams did they win. Same with WAS. I at least respect WAS as they were a top 5 team on some of the yrs.
