Blackhawks Prospects To Attend Djurgården Pro Camp
According to DIFHockey.se, a number of Blackhawks players are scheduled to participate in next week’s Djurgården pro camp.
The report also indicates that Marcus Kruger, a restricted free agent still waiting for a contract from the Blackhawks, will have the Stanley Cup at the arena on Tuesday.
Among those players listed to be in attendance who are with the Blackhawks organization are:
- Marko Dano
- Erik Gustafsson
- Ryan Hartman
- Vince Hinostroza
- Tanner Kero
- Joakim Nordstrom (who, like Kruger, still needs a contract)
- Robin Norell
- Artemi Panarin
- Ville Pokka
- Robin Press
- Roy Radke
- Dennis Rasmussen
- David Rundblad
- Viktor Svedberg
- Viktor Tikhonov
Surprised to see Radke among the attendees, the only ’15 draftee on the list above. Of course, there could be more attending we don’t know about.
Radke had a really good prospect camp and opened some eyes, maybe they want to see him vs. a higher level of competition.
Kruger played for Djurgardens and led the team in scoring before crossing the pond.
A nice mix there of Americans, Russians, Swedes, and a Finn. Kind of interesting they had Rundblad go as well.
Curious, I havent heard of other teams doing this. Is this the Hawks being cutting edge and a way to get around the CBA? They’re only allowed so much time with prospects they invite some to go overseas and analyze and help them progress sooner and faster.
The Swedish pipeline damn this organization is smart! The Hawks have looked a lot towards Scandinavia when loooking overseas’s over the last few seasons.
To your point HOF I agree that Radke was probably a guy they figured they could fasttrack much like Saad a few years ago. The Hawks do an excellent job of identifying talent. They haven’t been too many guys that have skated out of town due to misidentification.
Accroding to the website Leafs top prospect William Nylander will be there too. There will be a number of unsigned players there so I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Hawks sign a few guys after this camp.
Wow! Real hockey to talk about – cool!
I wonder what, if any, first hand accounts/reports we will get from this camp. I’m ravenous for real hockey discussion :)
I guess we probably shouldn’t have run Eric Ericsson off….
Speaking of Swedes and Finns and things Scandavian has anyone got an update on the Blue’s Jori Lehtera’s ankle surgery? I know we are all on pins and needles with that one. I’m off to IKEA to get me some meatballs and lingonberries.
Yeah MM, I can hardly sleep at night worrying about Lehtera’s ankle :)
And don’t forget the root moose and lutefisk while you’re there and pick up a bottle of brannvin too – there’s nothing like booze made from potatoes to wash it all down with.
Actually I think it’s pretty cool that Dano and Panarin and others will get to know each other a little bit and hopefully skate together and get a head start on building some on-ice chemistry. I also think it’s pretty cool that 26-year old Tikhonov is going to the prospect camp – that speaks volumes regarding his role in shepherding Panarin.
Brilliant Ernie! How the heck did you find that?
Ebony-Try melatonin to get a better sleep until this Lehtera disaster gets behind us. Lutefisk- it stinks so nice, and there is always the chance the can explodes when you mess with it. Kinda fun.
MM – there used to be a long time columnist in Chicago named Mike Royko, who mostly wrote about the Chicago political scene but every now and then would write a column about some other whacky Chicago stuff. I don’t recall the context, but one column was about Lutefisk and the takeaway I still remember from the column some 20-30 years later is that Royko pointed out one of the good things about Lutefisk is that after cooking it you could set it out on your back porch to cool without fear of some animal eating it because not even the scroungy looking dog running around the alley would come close to it.
Ebony-That is the funniest thing I’ve heard in weeks. Thanks for sharing that!
Back in 09/10 the Hawks ran the One goal campaign. This was the one they came up with for Hjalmarsson. After that he quickly became one of my favorite players. I remember he took a puck to the ear while sitting on the bench that year. I guess he was just born tough.
From my brief research the Royko article appears to be on how there’s no slurs for a Norwegian…I really need to get another hobby apparently.
No Carl Dahlstrom ? Seems Norell and Press have passed him from the 2013 draft class, even after Scott powers column on how Dahlstrom wanted to stand out as the best Swedish defense prospect.
Yeah, so far Dahlstrom has not progressed as hoped. I’m not sure but I don’t think he even played 1st division (SEL) in Sweden, or if he did it may not have been for the whole season. Definitely showing slower developmental progress than Press and Norell.
Calle Dahlstrom played in 12 shl games for Linkoping in 13/14. And 55 shl games in 14/15. Also played in 2 games for Rockford where he had 1 assist. 67 SHL games, 3 goals 4assists.
Another Swede left off the list is Olofsson. I wonder if he may be getting ready for college. Dahlstrom I wonder if he may be under contract with Linkoping and can’t go to Djurgardens camp. It’s not just a prospect camp, its also there pro camp. Norell played for Djurgardens, while Robin Press played for Sodertalje in Swedish d-1. Also played for Rockford after he was done in Sweden.
Oops, I stand corrected on where Dahlstrom played – thanks Ernie.
Now that I look at the list again, it seems to be the best Euro prospects the Hawks have with Hartman, Hinostroza and Kero thrown in.
In any case, I’m looking forward to reading reports on how the players looked in this camp.
There is this analyst at ESPN (I believe) who periodically rates the top 100 NHL prospects. Because I am not an “insider” I did not actually see the list. However, someone who did said that Panarin was ranked #34, Hartman #61, and Pokka #64. I am really discouraged by these rankings, especially of Panarin and Pokka who I thought would be much higher.
Has anyone seen this list? I read somewhere recently that signing Panarin was equivalent to a top 10 draft pick. Perhaps I am overreacting.
Reggie, remember the source. ESPN. In January on Pronman’s top 50 Pokka was 24th.
Yeah, I wouldn’t get too worked up over those kinds of lists. There’s really no science to it and each guy evaluates players through their filter – the things they look for and value in a player differ from one guy to the next. Those lists are probably pretty good at identifying the top prospects but not necessarily where they rank amongst each other.
Nothing on Stamkos either…something not right about that..ytou would think they want this guy locked up quickly and for a long time. Is everyone playing some kind of wait and see chess game?
Yeah, Stamkos not being extended yet makes me wonder if maybe Stamkos does want to play elsewhere (Toronto).
Could well be Toronto as a destination for Stamkos. Thats his hometown and he has strong roots there. I really cannot see Tampa letting him go but Toronto got Babcock, Lamoriello and now Lemaire as a special coach. Now they need a marquee player to complete the picture and start a new core to build around. From what i’ve read , ( take it with agrain of salt I suppose ), Stamkos was not too happy about his ice time in the finals and throughout the playoffs. How about this…Stamkos to Chicago replacing Kane’s contract and Kane to Toronto…have no idea what Tampa gets outside of cap relief but maybe some top prospects…that sure would shake things up.
I just read that Carl Hagelin will attend the camp, with possibly other Swedes like Landeskog and Hornqvist popping in too. The more the merrier and the more our prospects get to measure themselves against very good NHL players.
Russo signed with the Wings. Oh well.
Yes, thats too bad about Russo..the Wings snapped him up pretty quick. Maybe mangement had other things on their mind.
As well as the lack of $$$$ to pay him.
Russo will play in Grand Rapids where he won’t be on the cap. Money wasn’t the issue. He was allegedly a Wings fan in high school according to a writer that went to school with him.
Ya, I guess there is enough cap space to buy everyone a popsicle and thats about it. How about this for craziest idea of the month…James Van Riemsdyk, Phaneuf and Lupul from Toronto to the Lightning for Stamkos ( because he is not happy there) but they flip Stamkos to us for Kane and we throw in Bickell and Morin. As far as the no trade clauses go everyone is told to just do it, and with gratitude.
First, let me state I hope Kane is found innocent and somehow things get patched up with management and Kane cleans up his act and plays the rest of his Hall of Fame career in a Hawks sweater.
But …
If things don’t work out that well and the Hawks decide to trade Kane – then rather than ending up with Stamkos and being saddled with another $10M salary, I propose trading him to Buffalo where he can go be a hometown hero. We’ll send our troubled superstar and in return we’ll take their Kane and their up and coming d-man Rasmus Ristolainen. Evander’s AAV is $5.75M for 3 more season and Ristolainen has one more year on his ELC. So that’s about a $4M cap reduction which gives the Hawks enough room to re-sign Kruger and extend Seabrook.
I read somewhere that somebody had the idea of Toronto trading JVR to the Hawks. Hawks were allegedly pretty serious in trying to get him. Quite a bit of stuff on it a few weeks ago, then some more speculation the other day. I don’t see how it could work. Bickell and McNeill/Pokka/Hartman? Then they have to dump Versteeg as well. Don’t see how it could work
Hello everybody in Russia or China with the lack of fredom of speech. Due to the blocking and censoring of my comments. I wonder what am I allowed to comment on on this site????
Hello Eric Ericson….are you anywhere near the Djurgarden training camp? If so you could be very valuable for us fans giving us a first hand fan perspective account of what you see. Now that would be a great thing.
^ I second this. Also my apologies for anything bad I’ve said. If you’re that upset just don’t fly United.
Now…. how about Djurgardens….
Eric! I’m on to your little scheme to blackmail PK! Scoundrel!
Got in a debate with the family Hawks fans over the weekend and thought I’d throw the scenarios we came up with for what the impact to the team might be. Here’s the options we discussed:
1. Quiet settlement with a gag order on all parties, deal is made before the season starts and Kane rejoins the team this season, all is (eventually) forgiven.
2. Charges get dropped – pressure gets to the victim/accuser (I honestly don’t even know what to call her, plaintiff maybe?) and she drops charges. Kane rejoins the team, all is (eventually) forgiven.
3. Kane gets formally charged and goes to trial – if this happens, we could not see any way he plays this season. Guessing he gets shelved by either the league or the Hawks but no cap relief which hamstrings the club. Given the time it takes for these trials to take place, chances are it won’t be done before the trade deadline so the Hawks are basically playing with $10mm less in cap that every other team in the league.
Eventually he is either found not guilty (you are not found innocent, there is no such concept of establishing innocence) and all is eventually forgiven and he comes back for the 16/17 season. Or he’s found guilty and he goes to prison, gets his contract terminated and the new rebuild starts from there.
I will stand behind this blast shield here and await thoughtful responses.
I like Tab’s blog a bunch, (obviously – I post here regularly), but there is now a second thing missing that would, in my opinion, make this place even better (the first thing being an edit function) – and that is a “sticky function” where a thread would be stuck at the top of the list of threads. The “sticky function” would be perfect for the Kane story. It would provide a place to keep a running comments on the story so that other threads aren’t used to comment on it. We’ve all been faced with the situation where we want to comment on something but if we go back 4 or 5 threads and post in the appropriate place – no one will see it because who goes back and reads “old stuff” – so we post in the most current thread even if the subject is something entirely different.
It’s not a big deal and I have no idea what it would take to implement “edit” and “sticky” so I’m probably out of line for even suggesting this – sorry Tab, I’m just being a trouble maker :)
Update on the Pro Camp – Kruger will be there too.
With training camp a month away the league or the Blackhawks will have to make a decision pretty soon whether her or not to susupend Kane. There is no way Kane can rejoin the team for training camp with an investighation ongoing. It would be a circus and the PR damage through the roof and irreversible. I’m pretty sure the Blackhawks and the league have a plan in place now and its just a matter of time. If the DA brings forth charges there is no way he can play at all. I’m pretty sure the league will allow a replacement player, so even though Kane still gets paid, it will not count against the cap.
I don’t know how the legal system works, but is it too late for the victim to drop charges?
Regardless heard something today that the person that brought everyone to Kane’s house is apparently an off duty cop and a Kane friend. Now, would a cop lie for a friend? yes, So his job is irrelevant to me. What was stated is he refuted what was reported last week in that the girl was only there for her friend. He said the girls were urging Kane to take them to his place.
This is a mess. A clusterfuck. I wish the cops luck in sifting through facts and witness bias. Not a job I envy.
Chev- you are forgetting
2.5– Kane is formally charged/arrested (like Kobe – I think)… the Circus really begins…. Lawyers/really start talking/negotiating the “Civil side…” and somewhere between that charge date and the actual trial date charges are dropped,,, and Kane Pays here to go away…
the real question- will NHL/Hawks suspend Kane in 2.5 scenario??? before he is actually found guilty/or innocent???
Rape conviction- is a low odds win for the prosecution… so chances are settle (civil) and case is dropped,,, or Kane wins- civil suit to follow…
So will they suspend – before a verdict???
At the end of the day– Kane has a lot of money… Money usually wins…
But what will league do in 2.5 or 3 scenarios???
I would love to have Attorney info on what actually might be happening…
Legally – I don’t think they can ask/bargain for the settlement route with alleged victim- until after DA/ files or doesn’t file charges… but gotta think there are ways… and it is happening directly or indirectly – paying for this to go away
Last week I heard Kane’s lawyer respond to the question of a settlement and he had said their is no dialogue on that topic.
Take this for what its worth.

Interesting article Ernie…had not seen that one anywhere but here…who knows if its true or not.
