This season is done. Stan needs to try to convince some of these guys to waive those stupid no trade clauses he handed out to just about everyone. He’s completely destroyed the future of this franchise with his dumb contracts, stupid trades, and bad drafting. He couldn’t live off Dale and Mike Smith forever.

  • December 27, 2017 at 10:03 am

^ yes, the future is bleak. There aren’t any players on the Hawks under the age of 25 right now. I give up.

  • December 27, 2017 at 10:26 am

As a 50+ year veteran hawks fan, all I can say is that everything cycles. We had an unreal run. Some teams in hockey have streaks in team quality like we have had in recent years and come up empty on Stanley Cup trophies. We got three. I thought I was going to die with not a single one. The spark and hunger is gone. You see a flash of it here and there, but not enough for a season as long as hockey is. It is going to take an overhaul to get people in there again with that fire. I suspect it will get worse before it gets better, but at least the bandwagon crowd will move on… maybe to Vegas.

  • December 27, 2017 at 10:30 am

Again Forsberg has a chance to impress.

  • December 27, 2017 at 10:32 am

Just because they’re young doesn’t mean they’re all that great, at least not championship caliber material. Not only that, say there are two or three future studs on the roster, how are you going to keep them with the Hawks always being up against the cap? They got “lucky” this season with Hossa going on LTIR. Doesn’t matter anyway. The vets on this team aren’t doing much of anything other than Kane, and even he only looks like he’s enjoying himself and interested half the time. Toews has turned into a second line center for a non playoff team, Seabrook is dreadful, Keith’s age is showing, Saad looks average at best (funny how everyone who plays with Toews seems to get worse). The championship window has slammed shut, and there’s plenty of blame to go around. Just don’t bank on Bowman getting them back to elite status any time soon. If he had any balls he’d fire Q in a last ditch effort to light a fire under this team. Might work, might not, but there are not other real solutions right now. The Bulls future is brighter than the Hawks right now. Sad

How is Kampf at faceoffs? Can he keep up skating wise?

    Thank you.

  • December 27, 2017 at 11:13 am

Agree with Okie. The two biggest disappointments for me this year have been Panik and Schmaltz. Nick has been ok but I thought he was ready to be truly a top tier contributor. The positives are how the young/new D-Men have been better than I anticipated.

As an aside, my vote for the stupidest thing in hockey, and probably all professional sports, is a fight between goalies. Think about it.

  • December 27, 2017 at 12:47 pm

I’m looking forward to seeing Kampf play.
Hopefully Forsberg remains solid and they give him some goal support.

  • December 27, 2017 at 12:49 pm

Drew glad to know there’s still other old time hockey fans out there. We’ve had a great run with this team but like in all sports there are cycles. I think the Hawks will rebuild Rocky isn’t like Dollar Bill but with the hard cap it’s not easy to do. I still have faith in the young Hawks, Schmaltz will be a good one as will Forsling and Ruuta. I like what I see in Rockford both with the players and the coaching staff. I don’t like all the NMC contracts we have but Bowman has done some good things with free agents. I think our defense could be a real strength in the future judging from some our draft choices and guys in Rockford. Hopefully we can establish some continuity in our forward lines and have a good second half of the season. Here’s to good luck in the new year for the Hawks!!

  • December 27, 2017 at 1:19 pm

I don’t know, it might be just me but does anyone see we are 9 points out of first place in the Conference with only 47 games left to play. Oh My!

  • December 27, 2017 at 2:22 pm

Okie, well said!!! Exactly what many have expressed about our GM living off Tallon and Mike Smith’s draft & hockey trades. It is shameful to look at the amount of trades he has orchestrated and receiving nothing in return. Danault, Leddy, Teuvo, Johns, just to name a few….These are all ex-first round picks with Johns being a second rounder. And then the drafting has been poor as well. Imagine, the Pens have had time to draft Murray and Jarry as goalies? We draft experiments like Nalinov and Peeters, a Belgium prospect? Really? Anyways, I think it is time to trade Anisimov and Murphy who have some value and get prospects or draft picks. Then again, when you have an amateur scout like Mark Kelley and the worse pro scout like Pierre Gutting Gauthier, I cringe at what Bowman’s next move might be. Thus, fire Bowman, bring back Dudlley, Tallon or Dean Lombardi!!! REeal hoc keyt people not bad accountants.

    20 8 88
    14 19 10
    13 47 38
    12 15 40

    2 5
    42 7
    6 44

17, 57, 11, 82 all need to be traded away, released , or sent down. Bring Jurco, Dalhstrom, Kempf

  • December 27, 2017 at 2:44 pm

Roman were not allowed to say things like that. So that when we do good a have winning streaks they can be pushed aside as a blimp.

  • December 27, 2017 at 4:13 pm

Mikita21 that’s a brutal second line. Three guys who’ve done zip all year. And then you dump 12 on 4th line?

  • December 27, 2017 at 7:10 pm

This is the “Real” Goldenrug. I did not make that comment about Kampf.

  • December 27, 2017 at 7:19 pm

Go for offence BOMBA! #12 can go up and down the lineup spotting here and there but SHARP needs to get going… Forget Wingels and BOUMA…Press box… Let’s get a forth line with some scoring punch like 2013 with Bolland, Frolic and Kruger!!!

  • December 27, 2017 at 7:20 pm

You can have a Wingels, Bouma Hayden line if your top 9 is talented and CUP bound. We are not there anymore so let’s go with offence….

  • December 27, 2017 at 7:25 pm

Mikita21 Your love of Tallon is amazing this is the same judge of goaltending that brought in Khabulin and then doubled down and brought in the great Huet. He also had such great draft picks like Skille. I also think the great Smith brought in the Russian great Krevikrasov (sorry about the spelling). He also brought in the great Suhonen as coach. Every GM has good and bad but to continually put Tallon and Smith as infallible is just silly!!

  • December 27, 2017 at 8:40 pm

Damnit I’m going to be at the Canucks game tomorrow. Was hoping to see Crow shut them out!

  • December 27, 2017 at 9:25 pm

Be good of the Crow was back for the 2nd or 3rd game. As it might take us 3-4or5 periods to get up to speed. Then we go on run again.

  • December 27, 2017 at 9:34 pm

Didnt see faceoffs % on rockford site. 3rd line center should get easier center opp.

  • December 27, 2017 at 10:52 pm

Curious move with Kampf. He has some size. So, what the thinking? 3rd line center? 4 lines with a big center so they can crash the net and screen the goalie? At the wing and sit Panik and someone else…like Sharp or Hartman? Or…is this a way to showcase a guy for trade?
On a separate note. Is Toews a 2nd center? If so, who is our top center? Is he in the draft? and FA? Trade? If Toews, as I have heard, has decided he wants to be a more well rounded center, he should talk to Roenick. It just doesn’t work out. Be the guy that you were drafted to be. That’s where you are the best.
    Interesting times indeed.

  • December 27, 2017 at 10:54 pm

Of course, every Gm has good days and bad days (i.e. Peter Chiarelli)… If you can name me something that Bowman has done great many times over then list those for all of us. A first rounder unless in the top 5 is gamble, I agree. Players can be busts in any draft. But prospects and trades is what defines a good GM. Leddy was a good trade for Bowman considering the personal problems Barker was going through at the time. Oduya as well.
Can you name the goalies we had before the Berlin wall? At the time, that was a good signing. Maybe not Huet.
Remember HOSSA was a Tallon signing as well. Yeah, Skille never panned out but that was when the HAWKS had Hossa, Kane, Brouwer, Kopecky, Versteeg playing right wing. Bowman needed to put together some good deep drafts and he has not. Look at how many players the last few years apart from MVP TEUVO (scored again tonight) are playing at the WJC?
Coaches coach, players play, GMs draft and trade.
    Go Hawks

  • December 27, 2017 at 10:54 pm

Holy Santa Claus shit. Some of you need to put away the fucking eggnog.

Schmaltz being a disappointment? Hes on pace to put up 53 points per 82 games…Brandon Saads season high point total? 53 points. Hmmm. Saad has been the disappointment this year.

Makita, the power tool wants Tomas Jurco to improve “offence”…the same Tomas Jurco that has 7 points in his last 79 games spanning 3 nhl seasons. Makes sense. While dropping Anisimov to 4c. His ideal scoring 4th line had 37 points total in 127 total games. This seasons 4th line of Wingels, Hayden, and Bouma has 28 points in 101 combined games. Almost the exact same ppg. Face meet palm. Frankly Im offended. Go away Totti. We lnow its you. Nobody uses the english language like you…but first who is 47??

It simply amazes how fair weather this fanbase can be. Lose 2 games and its a god damn tire fire. Win the previous 5 and theyre cup bound. More volatile than fucking bitcoin. And anyone thats paying money for a mythical currency backed by a pipe dream right now at this rate is hitting the pipe. I suspect a few here have done both.

Look at posession numbers. Steadily heading the direction everyone wants. The outcome will come around. Need a few more shots from inside the house. Thats what Saad was brought back for.

  • December 27, 2017 at 10:58 pm

Schmaltz, I agree has been the real bright spot. Doing everything the coach is telling him to do. Play out of position on left wing, play right wing, play his natural position at centre (his best position), and kill penalties, PP, etc… Great IQ, speed and skill! Great future! Love the way he plays. Better be signed long term by BOWMAN!

  • December 27, 2017 at 10:59 pm

By the way TAMPA is another team that always drafts late yet always has 6-8 players at the WJC, almost every year!!!

  • December 27, 2017 at 11:03 pm

    Ogies lines:
    Etc, etc, etc

  • December 27, 2017 at 11:14 pm

Wow, scary to think the BLUES have drafted Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou! Yikes!

Again Ogie, not sure why you keep having an identity crisis, just leave you replies to hockey. Do not know this Totti person and I may be old with butter fingers, ( 48 for Vinny ) but my opinon is expressed lightheartedly. Enjoy!

  • December 27, 2017 at 11:32 pm

I don’t get all the people complaining about Bowman and management. Yes, the Seabrook contract is mind-numbingly stupid. And yes, Kane and Toews’ contracts are long and expensive. But didn’t we all understand we were selling our souls to the devil for 3 cups in 6 years? At the time we didn’t care.

Well, the time of reckoning is here, a little earlier than we all would have liked. I’d just assume get the rebuild underway- trade what you can, rebuild the farm system (a la the Cubs & White Sox) and have another run at it in 3-4 years. Seabrook would be gone by then, right? Kane might still be useful by then, and Toews could provide veteran leadership centering the 3rd line.

Trying to milk another championship out of this core feels like a fool’s errand.

  • December 28, 2017 at 12:11 am

Otis’ comments are right on the money.

  • December 28, 2017 at 12:19 am

I have no problem with those contracts: Seabrooke, Crawford, Keith, Kane , Hossa and Toews have given Chicago 3 Cups. I think we would be in a better position with depth in our talent pool if our GM was a little wiser and responsible.

  • December 28, 2017 at 7:19 am

    20 19 48
    8 15 88
    12 kampf 14
    38 57 40
Ability to limit 3rd line minutes and put 12 on top line if 48 and his speeed doesn’t spark 19 and 20. Plus 14,38 & 40 can switch with 10 and 17 available when needed.
Keep D pairs that have shown chemistry together.
    2 82
    42 44
    5 7
With 11 still on ir maybe use him or 6 to bring back some goalie depth. Maybe have a tandem if 50 going to be awhile. Leafs looking for d help and got a bit of goalie depth.

  • December 28, 2017 at 7:25 am

Again, the real Goldenrug here. I don’t know who that guy is, but I don’t want to see Toews or Crawford traded.

  • December 28, 2017 at 8:57 am

For what its worth Kampf won 22 of 43 faceoffs in preseason 51.2% . The exact same numbers as Schmaltz. 19, 15 & 67 were only others to take over 4o faceoffs in preseason and all were higher. So could possibly be an improvement in this area as he was still adapting to the be away from Europe.

  • December 28, 2017 at 9:13 am

    “Tampa always drafts late”

    Since 2010 they’re 10 highest picks

    6,27,10,19,3,33,19,33,27,14 = avg pick of 19.1

Hawks 10 highest picks since 2010

    24,35,18,26,36,18,30,20,39,29 = avg pick 27.5

Cups won by Chicago 3. Tampa 0

Players in the WJC doesnt mean much. A lot of times it comes down to politics. Duncan Keith never played in the WJC. Debrincat was left off last year, but a 2016 5th round pick by Nashville…a diminutive forward made the team. A 3rd rd pick by New Jersey made the team. Why? Because Debrincat was in the CHL and they didnt think he would translate against higher skill players. Chad Krys made it in 15/16 and was left off the last 2 years.

The Lightning meanwhile “only” have 5 players in the WJC this year…and 5 last year as well. In both 2015 and 2016 they they had just 3. So that 6 or 7 isnt quite right.

  • December 28, 2017 at 11:14 am

Prefer Kempny over Oesterle. But i dont think you can pair Keith and Kempny. I dont think you break up Murphy and Seabrook either so I dont know.

  • December 28, 2017 at 12:04 pm

Mike Green to pair with Keith? Give up Kempny and parts.

  • December 28, 2017 at 1:35 pm

Like the thought but Green 6m çap hit and Hossa 5.275m cap hit and says ltir space can’t be used to acquire a player with a higher cap hit. So barring some sort of not withstanding clause somewhere may not be easy to pull off.

  • December 28, 2017 at 2:39 pm

So even Green at half retained and half season remaining. Hit÷2 for prorated dollars remaining =3 ÷half retained=1.5 if acquires at half way point.

    Or is that off base?

  • December 28, 2017 at 3:01 pm

It just says can’t be used to acquire somebody with a bigger cap hit. So unless another clause overrides it that i haven’t saw it doesn’t look like that applies in this instance.

  • December 28, 2017 at 3:07 pm

I’ll go on a limb and pick the blackhawks for a big lopsided win tonight.

  • December 28, 2017 at 4:13 pm

Im going to the game tonight ! I expect the Hawks to come out flying ! They better , I cant stand the Canucks , and they are injury riddled to boot. I want to see Johnny T net one !

  • December 28, 2017 at 6:16 pm

Thunder with cap going way up the floor prob does as well and then there should be more teams then 1 or 2 that need carpet.

  • December 28, 2017 at 6:18 pm

Were going to win again. Before 19 and 88 turn 40.

  • December 28, 2017 at 11:38 pm

And does everyone hear the fat lady singing now. Lol. Back the truck up.
