Blackhawks Recall Alexander Salak

On Wednesday morning, the Blackhawks recalled goalie Alexander Salak from Rockford.

Starting goalie Corey Crawford has missed a couple practices this week because of an allegedly minor groin injury. This news, however, would seem to indicate that the injury is more serious than initially reported.

However, CSN’s Chris Boden tweeted on Wednesday that Crawford and Viktor Stalberg were the first players on the ice for practice, and Ray Emery is not.

With Salak in Chicago, it’s possible Emery gets his first start for the Blackhawks against Winnipeg on Thursday night. But the absense of Emery from practice raises questions.

UPDATE: coach Joel Quenneville told the media after practice that Corey Crawford feels “OK,” Ray Emery has the flu, and any of the three goalies could start on Thursday night.

Salak’s on a 1-way contract – he’d need to clear waivers to be sent back to the AHL, and there’s no way the ‘Hawks would risk that with him. Either Crawford’s hurt severely, or Emery’s being cut/traded.

Incorrect. Salak does NOT need to clear waivers because of age/lack of experience. He can come & go as he pleases.

First off I’d like to say, EA sports really screwed up peoples knowledge about how one-way and two-way contracts work. You have no idea how many times people have mentioned in this goalie debate that Salak is on a one-way deal and needs to clear waivers to go to the AHL. This isn’t NHL 11. Learn how the salary cap works people.

Second, apparently Emery has the flu, which is why Salak got the call-up. They don’t know if Crow will be ready to go tomorrow.
