Blackhawks Recall Alexandre Fortin
On Tuesday evening the Blackhawks announced they have recalled forward Alexandre Fortin from Rockford.
Forward Andreas Martinsen was held out of practice on Tuesday. No correlating move has been announced by the Hawks yet.
The Hawks are back in action Thursday evening in Minnesota.
Good, hope he plays not sit. Martinsen back issues, so he be out for a couple games at least likely. Sit Kruger or Kunitz and puf him in.
I like it – should go in on 3rd line hopefully for Kunitz
Maybe someone else is injured other than Martinsen
I’m curious to see what line he plays on and who he may replace in the lineup. I hope he can bring some life to the bottom 6 scoring. Anyone find it curious that Sikura is not the first one called up from Rockford?
Not really Miroslav, they probably want to give Sikura time to get his confidence back and find his game again in Rockford
Sikura like Hinostroza is a top 6 type. Let’s groom him for that.
I’m hoping he suits up on the 3rd line with anisimov and Kampf. Put Kunitz down on the 4th with kruger and Hayden or scratch him and leave Johnson in.
Music to my ears. I’ve been a Fortin fanboy since he burst on the scene a couple years ago. I know he has holes in his game and he has much to prove before he’s a legit NHL player – but his speed is such a weapon that I’m happy it looks like he may get a chance to show what he can do.
A possibility that popped to mind when I saw he was called up is a potential trade partner may want to get a look at him in an NHL game or two.
Here is a win/win scenario… later in season… Krys/Mitchell/Beaudin/Boqvist all dominating in their Leagues… Gives Bowman the Cards to deal one of these kids + Forsling/or Carlsson–
for a guy like Nylander… or other stud forward/or high draft pick… to a team weak in D prospects/players…
Don’t have my hopes up for Krys. Haven’t seen Beaudin’s name in the box for Drummondville’s last 2 games.
Martinsen has no business being on any NHL roster. Kunitz is probably going to be less productive than Sharp was last year, and he didn’t contribute much of anything. Kruger makes about 2 million too much. Manning is brutal. Rutta is awful. Gus is not and will never be a good NHL dman. How does Bowman still have a job?
if we want to follow ex hawk news Trevor van Riemsdyk was a healthy scratch. Andrew Shaw has two points in two games.
Guess I got my hopes up for nuttin … Powers clarified Fortin is emergency callup because Martinsen is out. Fortin probably won’t get in a game and will be returned to Rockford after the game on Thursday.
Bummer.
Ernie Beaudin probably missing scoresheet because I don’t think that he has been playing.
Wall its going to interesting to see if Bowman what can get in return for some of these young dmen. Hillman and Gilbert were healthy scratches 1st 2 games for Icehogs, which is not what i expected.
Beaudin has 1g and 3a fot 4pts. in 3 games so far.
Kunitz is a warrior but too old to make any meaningful difference-his contribution would be evident perhaps if the Hawks were so good and young that he could help in the room and on the 4th line–let a younger player play and see what that person can do and this is a team with enough older pros.
At least his hit is only 1 000 000-
Ernie- Beaudin 4pts/3games… he is doing fine.
Krys- I do have a “little” hope for Krys… he has improved -imo
at the very least- he could be a Prospect sweetener in a bigger deal- down the road
(especially- if other D prospects have great years)
Wall, I meant he hasn’t played the last 2 games.
Stape, that’s what I meant by box. Not just scoresheet. Didn’t know what the story was on that. Haven’t been able to find anything regarding why.
Wonder if Beaudin has a nagging injury, sat first 2, then played 3 and sat last 2 again.
Garrett Sparks after Sunday night and an at times shaky preseason has dropped in standing, glad that one didn’t happen, right now anyways.
It certainly is an emergency Fortin recalled b/c Martinsen is so valuable, they don’t want to risk him being claimed on waivers if ever sent to Rockford; most of the NHL GM’s are just waiting like expectant father in delivery room to claim him.
OKIE
Manning has been playing exceptionally well. Like a top 4 D man namely on gap, stick checks, board battles, puck possession and physicality. Not sure who you have been watching. +/- 0.
Don, I agree………..Manning is NOT a top 4 D-man, but he gets the job done. He doesn’t have the skill set to pull the puck off the boards, make some slick moves and take off down the ice, but the guy plays position very well and allows the top 4 guys to take a breather when needed. Q trusts him and that is ALL that matters.
In the topsy turvy world of Hawks hockey:
Quenneville said Forsberg was fine. Fortin is expected to play tomorrow. Jokiharju will travel to Minnesota. Oct. 18 is still the target date for Crawford.
So … Fortin will play after all – YIPPEE!
Bowman didn’t get the guys people are bitching about for long term. These guys are here to contribute to make team complete. Which makes the team better.
We didn’t have nhl established players at goalie last yr and then team wasn’t complete, with two ahl goalies. Nothing against those guys.
When more of the good young players we have are ready and established, we wont have as many of those kind of guys. We ll still have a couple though.
Just like Rozy.
Blackhawks lines in practice today:
DeBrincat-Toews-Kahun
Saad-Schmaltz-Kane
Kunitz-Anisimov-Fortin
Hayden-Kruger-Kampf
Excited to see how Fortin does as well – his camp was better than Sikura’s so I’m glad they rewarded him for that
Once Sikura has done some time in the AHL maybe we see AA with Fortin and Sikura
Based solely on Fortin’s speed and checking ability he should bring a spark, he is the type you could put on wing on any shift for a few shifts to try and get things going if needed. Glad to see him get a chance in lineup anyways.
Fortin, Hayden, Martensen, Johnson, Kruger, Kampf, Kunitz.
We have plenty of 3rd and 4th line guys that don’t scare anyone as far as their ability to score.
Our pipeline has some good intriguing prospects on D. But we need to build up the forward depth badly on this team. And the pipeline really has not much other than D. Sikura in it, and he has not proven to be an NHL talent quite yet. Let’s see if he can find a way to score in the AHL first before assuming he can help the Hawks in the best league in the world.
Fortin, by the way, has horrible numbers in the AHL. Guys don’t suck in the AHL and then light it up in the NHL. Having said that, he does have great speed, so hopefully he helps but I am not expecting anything from him based on his past results.
Wasn’t Sharp like 5th in goals and helped guide Debrincat as a linemate in the early part of the year?
Don – say hi to Bowman at dinner tonight or breakfast in the a.m.
If you think Manning is playing well, so be it; I will quote the verbose and infamous Fred Sanford: “Go away, I’m smoking pot.”
Hereismike the forward pipeline has alot of promise. Besides Sikura there is Kurashev as Wall and a few others have been mentioning. He is the type of prospect who can pay big returns if he delivers. He has potential to be a top 9 or maybe top 6 center and others like Soderland, Nordgren, Wise plus the russians, maybe Entwistle plus high end draft picks coming should make offense potent, add in the bottom 6 players on AHL & NHL rosters now and i think it looks pretty deep, very soon. If AA and Saad are moved who knows what fa(s) might be signed.
Duncan Keith had .33 career PPG in the AHL. In the NHL he was .55.
Fortin really picked up his point total towards the end of the year. If he turns into an NHL regular, that’s a success in my book.
Kevin Shattenkirk had 2 points…in 13 AHL games. He’s just been scratched by the Rangers.
Completely unrelated and probably going off on a tangent. The Hurricanes have Slavin,Faulk, Hamilton,Pesce, de Haan. TvR has 3 games and Hayden Fleury has the other. They also have a 24 yr old 6’2 D by the name of Trevor Carrick (from Ontario) that has 47 points in his last 75 AHL games. They’ve also got 2016 1st round pick Jake Bean and 2014 2nd round pick Roland McKeown.
Would TvR be an upgrade to the bottom 3 they’ve got in Davidson, Manning and Rutta? Probably. We know the Hawks like to recycle players. This would be one I’d be alright with. Forsling practiced with the club, so that tells me he’s close. Jokijarju for the time being looks like he’s burning that first year off his ELC.
2-28
56-7
23-44
Has been what they’ve had. Would it look better with 57 inserted in there? Where does Forsling fit? Davidson I could care less about. Come December when Murphy is healthy and assuming Jokijarju is still here they’ve got 6 guys for 3 spots as it is. A 3 way trade would be nice. Send Saad to Carolina for TVR, Carolina send a an AHL D to Toronto along with Forsling and picks and almost anything else to get Nylander. Nylander wants 8. Leafs want 6-6.5.
If you could pull off Nylander that allows you to put Schmaltz on wing. 27.8% ain’t cutting it.
Schmaltz took 801 faceoffs last season won 320 or 40%. Thats an avg. Of roughly 10 faceoffs taken a game, if he wins “one” more faceoff a game he is right at the 50% mark. Probably it would be an offensive zone in 1st or 2nd period, too boot.
Q doesn’t have him taking draws on pp, pk or late in game. First game yes he was terrible, against Blues he was 3 for 12 mostly losses to Ryan Reilly the best in league last year and he was 20 and 3 on the night. Against Leafs Sunday he was 4 and 6 against Tavere, not great but 1 away from being ok. Q plays him in away that he probably isn’t overly concerned about his faceoffs.
I like the idea of Nylander and something creative is what would be needed to do it.
Have to think Leafs wiuld want Faulk type though to help them this season get over the hump.
Yea, that Bolly style guy and the Wise dude.
CAR- Saad
TOR- Faulk
CHI- Nylander and Riemsdyk
That what each teams wants?
tvr was on the rink for nearly every goal against the blackhawks when they were eliminted from the 2016 playoffs. I am NOT a tvr fan…glad to see him gone.
TVR not so sure he would help a lot-let’s not re-brand past Hawks (other than Panarin-who the Hawks can’t afford)
TVR and Nylander conservatively would be 7 and 2.3–9+ in and 6 out. Nylander is good and only 22 so he would be the type of C/winger that would immediately make the Hawks relevant but it’s probably a pipe dream.
Hawks soon to have almost 10 million in their two goalies-the Hawks must have thought a good chance CC not back because this is crazy.
Noonan- Re: $10M/goalies…
agreed- either thought more than 50% chance no Crow…
or
Thought- good chance they were gonna suck (especially early – no Crow)
and then it would be- somewhat Intentional- to just- sit out Crow (assuming terrible start)… and play for the Highest Pick next year!!!
it is very early/small sample– but Hawks have played/produced way better than expected…
we shall see were they stand after 25-30 more games…
if falling behind pack… it will be easy to shut Crow down… and lose for Stud forwards w/ size or Hughes 2019 draft…
Kappo Kakko!!!
Mo, as with most 3-way trade proposals the 3rd team is usually unnecessary and only part of the proposal because the proposal is made by a fan of the 3rd team. If Toronto is willing to trade Nylander for Faulk (and I’m not sure they would be) why wouldn’t Carolina rather get Nylander instead of Saad? Just from a purely “play on the ice” perspective – Nylander is a better player than Saad, especially the current version of Saad. If Nylander is going to get a new contract with a cap hit of $7.5M, would you rather have Saad at $6M or Nylander at $7.5M? If it was the old Saad I would say it would be close but this current version of Saad – not even close – give me Nylander at $7.5M.
Great point EB.
I guess the main takaway is if you look at the leafs, and the cap hell they will have next year, it is imperative for them to maximize their chance to win the cup this year. If they feel Kapanen can replace Nylander in the top 6, they do that by moving him for a top 3 dman.
Nylander has a lot of value at his age and production level, and further upside coming. He would look GREAT on the Hawks, but unless we are parting with Joker, I don’t see a Nylander trade being possible because he is the only thing they would probably want from us. Other than Duncan Keith.
The $9M-$10M used for goalies this season doesn’t matter because they have the cap space. Ward’s $3M will be gone next season and the cap space spent on goalies will probably be back in the $7M-$8M range – so a net $2M in cap space.
I knew Toronto was not resigning Nylander because they have Matthews needing a raise next summer but after taking a look at CapFriendly – Toronto is in a world of hurt next year. Not only is Matthews ($975K) RFA and probably looking at a $10M+ cap hit, so is Mitch Marner ($894K), Kasperi Kapanen ($863K), Josh Leivo ($975K) and Andreas Johnsson ($787K) – current cap hits in parens. Add up the current cap hits of those 5 guys and it’s about $4.5M. Just using some guestimating – let’s assume these new cap hits: Matthews ($10M), Marner ($8M), Kananen ($4M), Leivo ($3M) and Johnsson ($1M) – thats a total of $26M which is $21.5 more than those guys are currently costing. HOLY MOLEY!
They currently have $12M in cap space and a couple d-men (Gardner/Hainsey) come off the cap for a total of $7M but that still leaves them $2.5M short and they still would need to replace Gardner and Hainsey.
SB don’t be surorised if Matthews could command 13.5 m. and Marner closer to 10m.
EB sorry
Yes I can’t wait to see other teams try to endure the pain of what we have been through more or less for the past 8 years.
Hopefully we position ourselves to be the beneficiaries of some good young talent.
Yes and we’ll see if teams take advantage of their position of strength like the Hawks did in those 5 years-amazing for the payoff to be 3 Cups-lets see how many Toronto have 5 or 6 years from now. 2nd place doesn’t count very much.
ER – Matthews’ next contract I think will be close to McDavid’s and higher then Tavares at $11M – Marner I think will have a great year and could easily be $9 or even $10
Leivo though is not getting $3M or Kapanen $4M so you’re grand total is probably about right
Btw WPG is another team that will be in cap hell next year
Trouba or Myers can’t both be re-signed and as ER mentioned Gardiner probably not in TOR either – that’s some good D men available
Nylander is going to sign for less than Marner so if the Leafs could’ve extended them for anything close to 10m and 8m it would ‘ve been done July 1st and forced Nylanders hand to drop his demands. It looks like they wanted to get Nylander on lower deal first and it may backfire.
If Matthews has a year where he is in the Hart, Art Ross and Richard trophy conversation even, his value goes way up, if he wins them which looks possible he laughs to the bank. In that scenario don’t see him signing less than Madavid’s % share of the teams cap which would be 13m range and a little top up just because to 13.5m is reasonable.
Marner with a big year very possibly has his stock raise to 10m range. That’s why i think Nylander is holding out, because he knows what Leafs are offering could put well behind the other 2.
Winnipeg isn’t in as bad a shape as Toronto. They have Laine and Connor who will both get a bunch, but Trouba and Myers are already making $5.5M so their net increase won’t be that much.
Yeah – my guestimate from the earlier post probably had Leivo and Kapanen too high but Matthews and Marner too low so it balanced out :) The point is I don’t see how they afford Nylander who’s fate was probably sealed when they signed Tavares for $11M. It would be nice if the Hawks could land Nylander but I’m sure there are a bunch of teams with better trade chips than the Hawks are willing to give up.
Yea that’s the thing TOR and TB will have to do what we did, 3 times already.
Then we ll see how good those teams really are. And the cap went up more for them then us, at the times.
That is what brought the parity.
It stripped the real top 5-8 teams of deepness and brought the teams that are really top 6-10 teams and mid tier 11-22 teams closer to the top teams. It wasn’t parity, it was the fricken cap.
It a circle though, and its coming around.
By the time TOR and TB/others have to not keep everybody-a lot and teams that loaded up the right way, which are the top 3 teams-TB NAS and WIN, and those 3 teams will blow their-by playing hard every yr for 5-7 yrs in a row.
We ll be deep again and those teams will be worn and not deep-cap.
This could be good timing for us.
We also really should have had 4 in 6 yrs, if they had instant replay and etc then. High stick, offsides.
Here’s a quote about Fortin from Colliton:
“Obviously we didn’t have the weekend we wanted to (the IceHogs lost their first two games), but I thought Friday he was really good. I thought we played well Friday, just didn’t get the result obviously, but did a lot of good things. He was a big part of that, very active on the forecheck and hard working in all three zones, did a really good job on the penalty kill.”
Hopefully he get a chance on the PK tonight.
And that’s exactly why I wouldn’t have signed Tavares if I was the Leafs…. Actually Tavares wouldn’t hurt so bad if the Marleau deal expired
Saying Nylander is on the block now, i wonder if they would look at Saad for Nylander if Hawks agreed to take last year of Horton ltir contract 5.3m for next year. Room they are going to need, Bowman could make it fit even it meant moving AA in off season or deadline, might be worth it.
