Blackhawks Recall Bryan Bickell

On Wednesday morning, the Blackhawks recalled forward Bryan Bickell from Rockford.

Bickell, 30, has scored 15 goals and added 16 assists in 44 games with the IceHogs this season. He has only two assists in 23 games with the Blackhawks this year.

The Hawks’ forward group is banged up right now. Andrew Shaw and Marian Hossa were out of the lineup last night and Artem Anisimov left the game after he was boarded by Antoine Vermette.

Mr. Rufus’ take: “Bickell is a great human being, he is only half the man and player he used to be. A mere shell of what he was. I wish him well in the the rest of his life.”

Tab’s assessment pretty much explains it. Guys are banged up at the forward position. Wondered anyway if Bickell would be hanging around somehow come playoff time. Hope that Anisimov is not concussed.

In 100% agreement with Hawks1961 and Michael Scott. Thought we were done with him forever finally and seen the last. Maybe it’s too harsh but c’mon.

I suspect that Bickell would be on the expanded playoff roster. The Hawks could use some size against StL. I think it is, if not such a great move, an appropriate move all things considered. Hey and what the hell.

No huge Cap impact at this point for the extra $1m added by calling Bicks up. Hawks have been dragging $3m against the Cap all year.

Then no Cap in the playoffs

Lol some of these comments. What would YOU do if you had the keys to the ship?

As the article points out, the Hawks are a bit banged up, and some of the guys could prob use a short break before the playoffs.

Are the Hawks going to jump ahead of the Blurs in the next 2 games? Nope, so what will it hurt?

Is Bicks the same player hE was a few seasons ago? No, but he’s not the POS many of you make him out to be.

But I don’t expect much out of some of you who just started watching hockey 5 years ago, and were the Danes ones calling for Crawford to get moved but know praise him.

Bickell is a large human. Cannot hurt to have an extra one of those when playing the thugs from St. Screwus.

Unless of course, we have trouble getting him back down…but hey if he does not clear waivers, wtf we save 4m next year, so no downside.

Agree with all of you on the way you feel about Bickell. Is that the best we can do?? He’s just wasted space on the ice. Who cares about his hits, needs to score goals which he can’t do anymore. Well end up being shorthanded more times than not with him there. Our D is so up and down lately that we can’t afford being shorthand what so ever. We need to get healthy as soon as we can or our playoffs will be short lived.

While my expectation regarding Bicks being called up are not high, I would love to see him overachieve given how he fell so low in the past 2 seasons from where he was. We all know good Bickell and bad Bickell on the ice. Let’s hope some of the good stuff is still there. It would kind of exciting to see him play well. Bicks back up also sends message to the guys down on the 3rd and 4th lines to raise their level of play or maybe sit.

Never mind that SB way overpaid for Bickell…..C’mon Pickleman earn that paycheck!

    1. Why not call up Bickell. We don’t have the worry about the salary cap implications anymore for this season. So he’s another body that sits in the press box. Or maybe is an option for a playoff game or two.

    2. Fair to think Anismov suffered concussion. If so, that will absolutely be a problem heading into the playoffs.

    3. Just love how the idiot brigade is taking subliminal shots at Quenneville for his steady preference of dressing Mashinter over the idiot’s latest wonder boy, Panik ! Mashinter has done a good job in the role that he is being asked to fill. But alas, the idiot brigade is smarter than Quenneville when it comes to game time roster construction.

    4. Most of the roster is not “nomadic roster filler.” Shaw isn’t roster filler, Kruger certainly roster filler. Even the overrated and ill fitting Teravinen isn’t roster filler. The only players who fit that profile are, in fact, the following…Des Jardins, Weise, Fleishmann, Mashinter, Panik, Rasmussen, Erhoff, Gustafsson and Svedberg. I could make an argument also for van Riemsdyk, but he’s been forced into playing #4 type defenseman minutes all season long when in fact he is a #6 type. So not fair to him completely.

  • April 6, 2016 at 1:19 pm
    Permalink

Tvr leads team in blocked shots. He’s not a 4. But when you lead a team in blocked shots he ain’t filler.

Svedberg. Blech. Svedberg has a decent first pass out of the zone. Can’t skate. Won’t hit. Was only player minus 2 last night.

Gustaffsson. I think he can be something. However, I think his confidence was shaken a bit and has taken a while to gather it back up.

Teravainen- he’s played all year with “roster fillers”. Stick Kane with Rasmussen,Desjardins, and Bickell and tell me where his offensive numbers are.

Q puts Teuvo out for PK duty. That’s one hell of an endorsement for a guy known to be tough on younger guys. Teuvo responded the way Q wanted.

The only thing I can say about this is that it took injuries to 3 regular forwards for Bickell to be called up. That says it all.

Watch–the guy’s going to be a monster hitting machine. He’s going to hit everything in sight in the first series. This is good.

TT jump-started the Hawks offense last year in the playoffs– he was responsible for the 1st goal against Nashville in game 1. And most especially for those first 2 in the SCF- came up with goals when needed. He’s very sneaky on the ice and confident he will only get better.

Iceman, it does matter to the team who your goalie is. Teams play with more confidence knowing they have a guy to trust between the pipes. If the team has a lack of confidence in their keeper it changes how they play, and is not a positive in any way shape or form. This is especially true in a 7 game playoff series.

    Nilsson smilsson.

I think more has to do with the team in front of the call up goalie. Knowing that safety net isn’t there they know they have to be just a little more defensive minded.

  • April 6, 2016 at 6:58 pm

Sure, during the reg season a guy can get called up and completely stone a good team. A playoff series though is a different animal. Weaknesses would eventually get exploited. It would have to matter in the playoffs if both Elliot and Allen had injury issues. Hell, if Crow is going to come back dinged up, and it appears that both keepers with the Blues have some issues, it can be a difference maker. We don’t know what physical problems they are dealing with. Remember Bishop was pretty messed in the Finals last year. It probably mattered in favor of the Hawks. No offense to Darling, but we need Corey on his game if the Hawks are going to go deep this year

Hawkhead-Well he used to bring that to the game. Hope your prophecy on the Blues is horribly wrong…they are overdue and we are a bit short staffed at the moment but that is exactly what makes this a great team. Goaltending is huge in the playoffs and with Crawford back and the year he is having will get us over the Blues yet again. Don’t forget the Blues are also overdue for a housecleaning and core re-alignment.

Ernie-Think you are likely right about that. It never really lasts too long. (Rare)

Hawkhead- Because theyre due for some success means theyll get it? STL are about to get blown up. Last chance.

STL is just as banged up. I have my suspicions the Crawford injury was to rest the body and mind.

Keith out for 1 game. Resting for six. Not a bad thing.

You can not block 100 shots. You might try 1, then be too afraid to block the next 99. He’s blocked more than Seabrook and Hammer. Not an easy feat. A 5/6 D-man making 925k. Then takes a 100k pay cut the next 2 years…maybe overrated in your mind. But the Hawks brass knows what they have based on salary.

Unless he can perform at the level that he once did ( WHICH I HIGHLY DOUBT ) we are better off with #14 and / or #53 on the ice. In their short time with the team they both have better stats / more points ( FOR THIS SEASON ) than #29. So, this one really makes no sense to me.

Players are hurt. Others will get a night off to rest. They will also be looking to see if he can offer ANYTHING in the playoffs.

    That’s pretty much it.
