Good to see the rag doll back.

  • December 8, 2019 at 12:20 pm

Deserved a callup, see how does.

  • December 8, 2019 at 12:23 pm

Bring ‘em ALL up! Let’s see who’s hungry and who’s not!

  • December 8, 2019 at 12:40 pm

IMO this is a joke. Not that Sakura has been called up but the fact that Highmore gets called up plays a few minutes then sent back down. Same for Wedin. Yet Nylander who has done nothing the last several games stays up. Why? To save face on the Joki trade. By the way he played over 17 minutes yesterday including the overtime .

  • December 8, 2019 at 12:43 pm

Actually wouldn’t mind tonight if Nylander was on Dachs wing and Kubalik and Sikura were given look with both those 2 and 20, 19 line see if anything good happens. Always have 64, 22, and 15 to default to if not working out.

  • December 8, 2019 at 1:01 pm

I am with you Bobby.Highmore and Wedin were not given an opportunity to succeed. If you are bringing Sikura up put him with 19 and 77.Put 20 back with 64 and 8. 92 can coast and be a dog with 22 and 15.Those 2 will ignore him and continue working hard.

  • December 8, 2019 at 1:20 pm

This will be 3 games in 3 nights for Sikura and 4 in 5 nights if he goes to Vegas for Tuesday nights game.Curious timing on that call up.

  • December 8, 2019 at 1:29 pm

Nylander is not that bad of a player and deserves to be in the NHL. Right now, he is better suited as a bottom 3 than a top 6. Nylander has talent, the Hawks need to figure out how to get it out of him. Don’t say I am being contradictive because of my last post about Nylander, he is an NHL player, just not a top 6. It would be huge if he gets there sooner rather than next year.

Dylan Sikura deserves another chance. I actually like his game and hope he takes advantage of this opportunity. He could fill one of the holes in the Top6. It would be really great if he puts one in the net today to get that off his back. Anyway, lets see where this takes us as neither Highmore nor Wedin have top 6 potential. Sikura does. Some of the other Rockford guys are a year away so it seems.

  • December 8, 2019 at 1:42 pm

Alex Nylander-4 Goals 6 Assists. A -8 Plus Minus. In 28 games playing lots of 1st line minutes and on the powerplay. Also there is that dreaded eye test that haunts his game.Hope you’re right Donald.I just have nothing to hang my hat on with him.

  • December 8, 2019 at 1:53 pm

Spot on Bobby9. Sending Alex “Jet Puff” Nylander down would be admitting just how bad that deal was and another example of Stanbo’s horrible record of drafting, developing, and dumping solid talent (e.g. Danault, Johns, TT). It’s all about optics with our boy Stan.

  • December 8, 2019 at 1:58 pm

As for Sikura, I just don’t think he has the wheels or the frame to last with the big club but I would love him to prove me wrong. His numbers this year are pretty good though, so at the minimum he deserves another look so maybe he can suit up tonight while “Jet Puff” hits the buffet.

  • December 8, 2019 at 2:10 pm

I would put Nylander ahead of Shaw right now who in my eye test has shown me very little except for being a little pest to the opposing teams. Sikura can score, it might be his last time to see if he is an NHL or a lifetime AHL’er. I have been an advocate for getting Hall because he has a lot of skill. Sikura could be a cheap version if he can get 10+ goals and 15+ assists this year. lace em up and lets see if this kid is ready to be a top6 or top9. He will prove a lot of naysayers on this site. It will be good to hear crickets when he does.

  • December 8, 2019 at 2:12 pm

Weird on the 4 games in 5 days thing for Sikura.

Watch Sikura score a goal for ER.

Good to have, then not have, guys like that Defensemen that was up, Wedin, Hihgmore. Its for when we have injuries. So we are 28 not 25 players deep.

  • December 8, 2019 at 2:14 pm

For whatever reason Skiura might be a better fit with 20 19 then Nylander is. Have Nylander on 3rd with Dach for now. While 91 and 65 are resting up, to have full energy for 2nd 40 games, get the 3rd line more OFF to it.

  • December 8, 2019 at 2:17 pm

I am with you there Donald. With the state of this team now,I would not rush Shaw or Keith back.See what you have once and for all.If things go in the wrong direction ,I would throw Wedin and Highmore or Hagel out there along with leaving Gilbert in the lineup.

  • December 8, 2019 at 2:17 pm

Sikura had many chances to get that first goal last year. He’s very active and He’s a good skater. I agree, once he scores more will come. I think these auditions mean one of them will be traded.

  • December 8, 2019 at 2:17 pm

    Jordy Hawk,

If Nylander is so bad, what do u think of Shaw and Kampf because Nylander has been better than both except for Kampf’s penalty killing. Nylander has skill, where would Henri play on this team right now. He finally got his first goal with the Sabres in the 28th game. Our Def with Maata, DeHaan and Murphy had been solid, Seabrook ok not as bad as people here think, Keith and Gus meh to yuck.

Would u take out Keith or Gus for Henri. The best way to look at this trade: Kahun/Henri or Maata/Nylander. Which one is better at the end of the season.

  • December 8, 2019 at 2:36 pm

Donald Joki has 3 goals, Seabrook and Gus lead Blackhawks D in goals with 3, Murphy 2 and Keith, Dehaan, Maatta with 1 and Koekkoek 0. Buffalo has been very happy with the his play a not at all unhappy about the trade.

Nylander has no future as a 4th liner, if they are trying to make a Nhl player out of him, might as well try somewhere he can stick. The talk after developmental camp was they liked Dachs and Nylanders chemistry, so might as well see if it has anything to give at this level.

  • December 8, 2019 at 2:38 pm

    Bobby accurate post.

Nylander w paltry production playing top 6 minutes and some PP time in over 1/4 of the season. Sikura has 9 goals in the minors, it’s not like he’s been tearing it up down there, he never has. He doesn’t have a scorer’s touch. He doesn’t skate like the wind either.

    We need more.

  • December 8, 2019 at 2:44 pm

Taylor Hall is not coming to Chicago. He wants to go to a contender which Chicago is not. Plus there is no room with the cap space. He will command 9+ million per yr. As for Nylander how many chances do you want to give him. Nothing wrong sending him down to the minors to work on his game. If he doesn’t accept that then do you really want him on your team.

  • December 8, 2019 at 3:02 pm

Were going to have the capspace. Were not keeping all of 44 6 65 15. I would say keep 44 and prob another. Theres 8 m right there.

Wirtz does the reset Lehner and players like Hall would stay come, seeing that the system is good and were making the right moves.

I know top heavy, but would you rather have 6 and 15 or Hall.

  • December 8, 2019 at 3:03 pm

I am all for sending Nylander down to tge minors, been saying that for awhile, just saying if they are determined to make an Nhl player out of him, try something that might work. One thing Nylander does is explosive first step accleratiom to get the puck in the zobe get the puck vack to front of net, may work well with Dach who as mentioned has struggled a bit in that area. Playing with Carpenter and Smith, they are basically dump and chase, no help in that regard.

Donald to answer your question with similar production, Gus 3g and 7a vs Joki 3g and 5a, wuth all the goals against Gus is responsible for i’d hands down have Joki in there ahead of Gus.

  • December 8, 2019 at 3:09 pm

It was interesting a couple of nights ago after the Bruins game that Backes and Marchand commented on Pasternac being hit hard and Moore immediately dropping the gloves. They both applauded the move but said the correct way to address it would be to target and run Patrick Kane through the boards each time he touches the puck.If the Hawks put Gilbert and McCoshen in the lineup along with Smith all getting in on physical big hits,88.12 and 19 are going to have to keep their heads on a swivel.

  • December 8, 2019 at 3:13 pm

We go 41-41 and have same system coaches gms and crew. Then yee Lehner and Hall prob do not stay come.

We need to get to that, so those kind of guys will.

Theres other Halls out there. Who are players like Hall that are ufa in next summer, in a yr from now when we will have good system, more of young wave, Dach emerges, BoQ is wicked, Micthell can play as good as Buckaroo, other good things like D group getting better and younger and not having guys who cant play D like 56, other good things.

Then Those kind of players will be stay and come here.

  • December 8, 2019 at 3:13 pm

The 1 game this year that I saw the Avalanche get blown out was in Edmonton when Kassian knocked McKinnon down with a huge clean hit a minute into the game.Avalanche had nobody in the lineup to respond and skated very cautiously the rest of the nighy.

  • December 8, 2019 at 3:18 pm

To that end saw that Marchand knocked out the Avalanches prize rookie Cale Makar with a big hit last night. Some teams in this league have a response to being embarrassed on home ice.

  • December 8, 2019 at 3:18 pm

Thing with BOS is they like to hit and are ‘allowed’ to hit but anytime they are hit they whine and say thinks like that.

If BOS wants to hit other team, normally, they should take it to.

We are allowed to hit, right? Do not know why they think they are entitled to anything. Its not like they had a dynasty or anything.

  • December 8, 2019 at 3:20 pm

If the plan is to dump 6, 65, 15 after the season, what was the purpose of bringing them in the first place. Again IMO Bowman has no plan.

  • December 8, 2019 at 3:22 pm

This is the reason we added those good players in summer. Players that are good at D, can hit, can PK, other.

    44 6 15 65

We didnt have hardly any last two yrs and we still do not hit as much as we can or should. Just do not get out of position.

When BOS chumps say that, other teams should hit them even more, just because. Its like they think? by saying that teams wont hit them as much. Didnt STL smear them a little agasint the wall. They looked like they had a chance, by not having to play TB and, until STL started hitting them.

Then it was a different game. Like your saying about EDM COL.

  • December 8, 2019 at 3:31 pm

Agree Mo, hall is just an example of a player that is top 6. He comes with a risk.

Ian, my bad you are correct on Henri stats. too much of a rush.

Nylander has interesting stats: In Wins, he has 3 g/3A with a +6, in loses he has 1g/3a with a -14. In Wins, Toews has 4G/6A with a Plus 9 and in Loses 1G/4A with a -15 per ESPN. Was Toews the benefit of Hossa’s greatness.

Also Nylander, Dach, Seabrook and Kampf 5 GWG and the rest of the team 6.

I am not a Nylander fan but to say he needs to be in the AHL, who replaces him. Highmore. Wedin not so much. Sikura is up, lets see if he can.

  • December 8, 2019 at 3:31 pm

Dont particularly care for them either Mo.Includimg their t.v announcers.I sure would not mind having their 2 young mobile d men,McAvoy and Krug.Man they defend and can move upside in a hurry.

  • December 8, 2019 at 3:40 pm

Not going agasint what your saying.

I would say the plan was to have a full roster, for the fist time since 2017. Because we didnt in 18 and 19. To have a chance to win and make playoffs.

What ever caphit and yrs they have, is what it is, so to have good players and a full roster you got to take the caphits that come with them.

I think the idea there was, get full roster, get good players, and then trade when needed so we can add other good players when available.

  • December 8, 2019 at 3:43 pm

I do not know, what plan Bowman has or what were doing. Just thats what I see with geeting those good players in summer. The core and others wanted a full roster and more tuffness. We needed it. Look, we still do not hit enough.

I do not sant us becoming the Hansons or Boston Bruins. You play like that and your team is going to get players knocked out with dirty hits, not clean ones. BOS does thaht kind of stuff, they will pay for it later.

I want us to hit and play hard but stay in position and only clean hits. If another team hits us clean, fine but I do not want us getting cheap shotted because we did before or after. Clean.

  • December 8, 2019 at 3:44 pm

    bobby 9,

You bring in Smith instead of AA to save $1M plus in salary cap. I was shocked to see Shaw back with the Hawks but he and smith play similar roles, one has to go. As for Matta, it is either Keith or Maata to make room for Mitchell assuming he makes the NHL next year.

    Hopefully keep Crow and Lehner

We need two top 6’s between Nylander, Sikura, Barrett, Kurshev, Entwistle or we have to go out and get someone.

  • December 8, 2019 at 3:47 pm

Per you: “Nylander w paltry production playing top 6 minutes and some PP time in over 1/4 of the season.”

Toews and Dcat had the same production up until the last two games where Dcat scored. Nylander and Toews have equally bad stats when we lose.

  • December 8, 2019 at 3:55 pm

Tim, we got some D coming just like those guys. Cant get here fast enough so we can be top 5 team, like BOS is again, again and players like Hall will com here to mkae us even better. Might have to wait a yr from this summer to next summer to lool like were on the verge for players to come here.

    I want to believe.

I do believe that some of the Horsemen will make a huge difference for our D like those two players are for them. Its a massive difference. Look at the differnce in the D group and on PK just by adding 44 and having 6 NHL Defensemen compared to 18 and 19.

  • December 8, 2019 at 4:01 pm

I think its fine to say BoQ can be top pair and other Horsemen good 2nd pair guys. I do not want any only being a 3rd pair quality. If Gilbert Vlassic KoKo/or next version of him are 3rd pair fine.

These guys are good and think that reality, not wishfull thinking. Being a top 5 team next two yrs is, but we could be on our way to getting there. Lets go Wirtz.

  • December 8, 2019 at 4:02 pm

Plus its easier to, just play, when you know your playing normal min every game no matter how good bad you do, then being jerked around or benched for every little mistake.

  • December 8, 2019 at 4:05 pm

Tim, talk about trash, BOS couldnt handle not winning 25 game in a row so they threw garbage on the ice after Tazer scored.

Its not like we get more or half of the calls in our games, what do they think they are entitled to. Really I watched part of MON game and they outplayed them. Sofor as good as BOS is now, they should have 3 regulation loses in a row. Who cares.

Do not recall CHI ever doing that when we didnt get 25 win or tie to start 2013 season, 21-0-3.

  • December 8, 2019 at 4:07 pm

Now I know what have must put the BOS people over the edge after Tazer scored.

They were reminded, so much, of the 17 seconds event. When the over the loud speaker the guy said Debrincat goal at 17 seconds of 3rd period.

It probally froze the whole arena and them with dead silence.

  • December 8, 2019 at 5:07 pm

Bobby have hard time figuring the plan out too, seems to change often. Only thing i see was a need to try and get in the playoffs, with future guys coming along it was done with ability to keep roster mostly intact or if needed, moveable pieces depending on a number of things, how much player development in Rfd,, impacts next years roster and success or lack of it this year.

My problem with Nylander is not what he does with the puck except when plays hot potato sometimes when hearing footsteps, it’s his lack of compete without it, won’t board battle, continually standing and puck watching in his own end when opposing team has possession, avoiding challenging puck carruers through center ice. Tries to play like with less defensive effort than Kane, except he produces like Kampf.

  • December 8, 2019 at 5:54 pm

Sikura was very soft last year and didn’t show he was even close to being ready. Hope he doesn’t have those deer in the headlights tonight, this may be his last shot with the Hawks.

  • December 8, 2019 at 5:55 pm

Ian – I’m just not sure that Alex can’t be coached up on those things you mention

He lacks a high compete in the D zone for sure and he doesn’t shoot enough or quickly enough but for some it just takes longer for them to get it – it’s not rocket science so hopefully he gets it by the end of the regular season – I think a year for him would be a good sample of where his potential will take him

He makes some savvy passes out of the D zone and in the O zone as well and while he’s never going to strike fear in opponents with physical play he definitely needs to learn how to use his body for leverage – something Kane has figured out and they’re similar sizes – so he can protect the puck better and take it to the net more effectively

As I said before I’m not writing him off yet

  • December 8, 2019 at 6:01 pm

I laugh about all the comments here on Nylander…his play for the Hawks is EXACTLY what everyone has said about him since he was drafted…tremendous skill but does not care And will not do what it takes to be a better player. That’s why buffalo dealt him. Why anyone thinks he will be any different with the Hawks is beyond me. Generally can’t teach someone to care.

  • December 8, 2019 at 6:20 pm

AZ is 9 points better than the Hawks. They are +13 in goal differential, the Hawks are -9.
Guess where Bowman sent most of our good young forwards?
How many of the players we got from AZ are still with the Hawks? None I believe.

  • December 8, 2019 at 6:27 pm

Well, we are the only team that has a horse jockey as a left winger now. :-)
By the way, where is Alexandre Fortin? He played really well for us when given an opportunity to succeed, until the C became coach. Then, he and Joki went back to Rockford, where I saw he started to play well, and now he’s not even dressing. We need that kid’s speed if we plan on keeping up with anyone on Colorado.

  • December 8, 2019 at 7:44 pm

Ian, totally agree. He did this patch work in hopes of making the playoffs to appease the fans thus saving his job. Here is my issue. Bowman is telling those in Rockford that you basically have to earn your stripes to play in the NHL unless you are named Nylander. You can’t teach someone to play with heart. If he has not learned that in 4 yrs , I didn’t think he ever will.
