Blackhawks Recall Entwistle, Kurashev, Place Kalynuk and Shaw on LTIR

When the Blackhawks sent MacKenzie Entwistle and Philipp Kurashev to Rockford, it was only a paper transaction. Both were recalled on Tuesday morning.

To make room for them on the roster, the Blackhawks placed defenseman Wyatt Kalynuk and forward Andrew Shaw on LTIR.

The designation means the earliest Kalynuk can return is Nov. 5.

Kurashev was right back at work on the Hawks’ second power play unit at practice on Tuesday morning. He was joined on the second unit by Kirby Dach, Dominik Kubalik, Ian Mitchell and Henrik Borgstrom. The first unit was loaded with Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat, Seth Jones and Tyler Johnson.

Mitchell getting work on the second unit is encouraging for his chances of making the NHL roster to open the season. Even though the Blackhawks brought Erik Gustafsson back, Mitchell is one of the young defenseman who should get a longer look with Kalynuk and Caleb Jones out to begin the regular season.

It would be great to see Ian Mitchell grab this spot and keep it . I hope he has made the necessary improvements to elevate his game to top 6 D Man level.
