Blackhawks Recall Lankinen, Lehner Out Sick
On Monday morning the Blackhawks announced defenseman Ian McCoshen was sent back to Rockford to make room for goaltender Kevin Lankinen. Lankinen will back up Corey Crawford against St. Louis at the United Center on Monday night; Robin Lehner is out sick.
Center Dylan Strome was also active at the morning skate. He has been out in concussion protocol. Andrew Shaw and Strome are out against St. Louis as well.
Andrew Shaw will not play tonight and is “undergoing further evaluation” per the #Blackhawks.

Re Lehner; I’d be sick too playing in front of that joke of a defence. Anytime I’ve seen Lankinen play he’s looked good.
Going with 11f and 6 d because of cap, Kane playing 30 mins again.
So much for McCoshen playing. A good thing with that hit he did, even though clean.
Was the hit on 77 by ahl MIN clean?
Sounds like a good plan Ian. What are these guys doing.
Started with fukking up the goalie rotation.
Think we wanted to try playing without 5 good players and see how we can win 7-3.
According to NHL insiders including Blackhawk Reporters Mark Lazerus and Scott Powers they have never seen this at this point of the season. It sometimes occurs around playoff time when the Hard Cap gets put on hold for the playoffs. This is mismanagement of the Cap and it is inexcusable to put yourself in this position. You are placing your assets at risk of injury. This starts at the top with the Team Presidents edict of making the playoffs or else which prompted the General Manager to spend 11 Million on Goal Tenders, over 9 Million on 2 mediocre at best D-Men,and another 10 Million on bottom 6 forwards. It is also the compelling reason not to have 2 10.5 Million Dollar a year players on your roster along with another 13 Million Dollars tied up on 2 declining D-Men.This Team and Organization is embarrassing. The Cup Legacy at some point becomes tarnished.
Anybody buying that LEHNER is “sick”.Willing to wager that he was told to stay home or decided to take a few days off.Lehner had the same problems with his Buffalo team mates over his honesty and calling guys out. This is headed down the right road to expedite the Termination of Bowman and Colliton.I think McDonaugh leaves on his own in the off season to save face and embarrassment.
Tim after Saturday certainly seems convenient. Think those are some of reasons Lamoreillo didn’t resign him or why he was not a fit last season for Blackhawks until he showed he xan fet it done on the ice.
I hope that Lehner will stay, or come back as ufa with us trade to get a 1st pick, because Wirtz made the moves and he sees who we have coming. Like how young good players Islanders had just starting out there.
Wirtz waits to summer Lehner prob doesnt want to come back.
Lehner likely has PTSD from exposure to unrelenting enemy fire, so yes he is sick.
It was good to get 6? good players in summer. It gave us a full roster, a deep roster but not quality deep, for the first time since 2017.
Where we didnt have to play ahl players more then neccesary. Kubalik should be playing 82 games not Nylander. Nylander plays 40, ok. Not gettin ginto lineup decisions, just that filling the roster so we have a full roster should be a good thing. its who was available for the cap space we had to get a deep roster with as good of players as we could.
Those good summer ufas adds should get us picks at deadline, like 57 did. Since were in this boat, lets trade 50 40 20 others and they can come back as ufas if they want. These are good things.
If the most important thing is to wipe out top to players first, then the way things have gone in first 10 games and these games here and there. Well its a blessing to get the reload, full reload started because we have two top 5 draft players and several other good young wave players coming.
We want to be ready by the time they are, and add several more 1sts and 2nds and good prospects with what we have to work with.
If we cant be top 10 team now with full roster and we have these identity issues. Then reset and add to the young wave. You can do that keeping 19 88. Those guys should do decent caphits going forward, so they are not labelled as 10.5 dudes. They can reset to 6.3 dudes again.
What has always kept me so interested in NHL Hockey since childhood is that it is a man’s game where effort ,discipline, and structure organization wide can produce an incredible product that fans could get behind even during the down times. This organization is really making that increasingly difficult with the stubbornness of not keeping up and bettering the other teams.
Predicting another shit show tonight and if it happens maybe changes will be made. Not a chance in hell Lehner is sick, not buying that after the last game.
$5million spent on a backup goalie who just told the team off? That does not happen if Coach Q or Trotz is behind the bench…actually, he would not play again! Toews is the captain, who’s Lehner? Trade hin now! Anyway, he will ask to be traded soon and we will get a 7th round pick for him…Thx Stan! Greed got him the Hawks who wwill miss playioffs again. Money should have been spent on a top 6 forward!
Hope they let Dach play in the world juniors. Ian if they do does he have tp play the rest of the year in juniors. Also if Rocky refuses to make any changes to top mgt, then the empty seats At the UC will force him to
No problem with what Lehner did, it was needed. JC has no balls so somebody had to say it. Toews is the captain but leadership comes at many levels and veterans need to show it and he did. He’s by far not the only one that’s done this. Sometimes your goalie needs to be fired up and let it rip. Tonight most likely a shitshow for sure.
I like Lehner because he has played well, and has called out the team in a roundabout way. They need an A plus effort tonight.

What has Chicago done, that would make Lehner want to stay?
The media questioning him and Crow about how the feel about splitting time over and over again.
The team is struggling. He has spent all but one game bailing them out all season.
The moment he has one bad game, it’s nothing but comments about how his mental illness is kicking in not that he could actually have the flu.
If anyone else on the team has a bad game and then gets the flu,….. there aren’t comment after comment about there no way Keith or Crow is actually sick.
Why would someone that talented, even consider staying in Chicago. Go and play for a team that he could help win a Cup. Probably also have a better situation.
As much as I love the Hawks and would love him to stay.
If I was in his skates that is def what I would do.
Blackhawksfan02—Hope Lehner does stay, great goalie and hopefully our future. I’d love to see Crawford and him tandem at least one more year and then Crawford retire as a Hawk. No denying that Crawford will go down as one of the best in franchise history and not just because of the 2 cups but because he was that great. 2013 doesn’t happen without him and 2014 would have happened with a little bit of puck luck (Seabrook). 2015 Crawford needed a little time and then he was rock solid as usual.
I’m afraid that St. Louis will still be scoring goals while I’m driving home.
It could be tough, especially with loud mouthed Blues fans sure to be in the building.
Jim
I agree with all your points. But having both of them is pretty much a dream world for next year.
Kinda like thinking that about how much fun it would be to watch these people be in the l0cker room and repeat what they tweeted out.
Dream world. :)
On a more serious note If you were in his skates would you stay?
Fan, that swhy I was saying Wirtz needs to do this now, for more then one reason. Doing it now deadline during these 82 games and not waiting to summer, could help keep Lehner come back as ufa. He would see that were doing the reload and adding to the young wave. Or he could sign for 3 yrs, then come back as ufa, I do not know.
What I was saying is, if Wortz does his job, during this season. Lehner sees that were reloading and stacking young wave. Otherwise sure, just do not go to COL.
Hull65…… I tend to agree with a lot of what you say but in my opinion only, Lehner had every right to call out the team and their captain there the other night. Lehner has earned his paycheck so far this year and is solely responsible for us being in some games we had no business being in. As for Toews, its` time he looked in the mirror and started earning his paycheck and stopped whining to the refs as well. Is he the leader this team needs right now? Toews has made his bed here this year and the coach is now as irrelevant as he is on the ice. The players got what they wanted and it`s obviously not working. I suspect that`s where Lehner is coming from. This team needs a leader right now and I don`t think Toews is the guy anymore. His play on the ice proves it as well. I hope we do trade Lehner this year but I hope it`s at the right time for the right return. He should be able to get us decent return which is what we obviously need.
Assistant Coach Marc Crawford will be removed from the bench and be away from the team during the investigation of his abuse of players on previous teams.
Plenty of room on the Hawks bench tonight.
He allegedly kicked Sean Avery. I think everyone agrees he should be rewarded rather than punished.
Just to nite Blackhawks could gave sent Nylander and $850, 000 bonyes and recalled 2 players from Rfd for 2nite but chose not to.
Exactly Ian.Thats why long time Hockey reporters said they had never seen it before. There is a definite disconnect and communication problem going on here regarding players physical status. As pointed out here by other astute posters, there is a lack of Nhl coaching experience in this organization at this time.
