Blackhawks Recall Wedin, Place Cagguila On LTIR

On Wednesday evening the Blackhawks announced forward Drake Cagguila has been moved to LTIR, retroactive to Nov. 10.

With Dylan Strome also out of the lineup because of concussion protocol, Chicago recalled forward Anton Wedin from Rockford.

Wedin, 26, had four goals and seven assists in 17 games with Rockford this year. He signed with the Hawks as a free agent on May 23, 2019.

I liked Wedin in pre-season – I imagine at some point he gets a game at least to show what he can do

Size, speed and a bit of an offensive touch

With the Cap predicament Koekoek may be on the move.In an emergency you can shuffle Gilbert and Boqvist into the lineup at Defense.Cagiula and Strome are in the multiple concussion territory so it could be some time before you see them again.Like Wedin thought maybe Hagel would get the call but he is very similar to Highmore.Wedin has some size and could fit nicely on the 3rd line or even push Nylander.

Interesting that D. Sikura was passed over twice in call-ups this past week.

Another good reason to get these guys in summer to have full depth. This way we have players who can play.

Ian, how do we get rid of that extra player bonuses so we can bank more space.

Caggiula plays a real in-your-face style. This latest concussion has to be very very concerning for his future.

As for Strome, I was at the game in Dallas on Saturday and later posted here that he looked extremely slow, almost painfully slow. Sounds like he was laboring because his mind was not right.

Highmore looks like he is ready to make the most of this opportunity. I’m hoping Wedin does as well.

Mo have to send down Nylander or Kubalik only way, not counting Dach.

Hopefully Highmore stays in lineup, him Smith and Carpenter clicked well last night as did 8, 64, 65, may have been partly due too Stars schedule but like to get another look at that line. Wedin might get in 2nd half on Sat., of back to back.

Tim cap situation has been same all year, ltir will be used instead of regular ir when needed it looks like. With 23 forwards Wedin or Highmore could be shuttled down for Gilbert if need be, Boqvist’s $850,000 bonuses still be too much caphit with Cagguila ltir, need to absorb full caphit on ltir doesn’t reduce on now until off ltir again.

Anyone know just when Caggiula received his concussion? The puck to the face certainly comes to mind from a about three games ago, but he returned to play in that one.

I’m not surprised that D. Sikura is not in the call up list. He may be in the Joki camp. And quite frankly, Joki showed more promise with the big team that Sikura has. Sikura may not have a place in the future of the organization and may be a candidate to be packaged. Might be good for him to get a new start, much like Joki. Clearly not in Colliton’s plans.

Wedin had a lot of good energy during the preseason games. I’d like to see him get some games in with Strome out.

Speaking of salary cap player bonuses potentials, how much have weve been banking for 20 games.

We have 1.5 deadline space, is that right. Which can go up since its prorated based on who we have up. Like you said Nylander or Kubalik and Kubalik is staying.

Cagg and Strome are prob reason why we have two similiar style guys and not Sikura.

Mo if your looking at cap friendly, the 1.5m space is the Cagguila ltir. It doesn’t account for $702,500 in bonuses that count against caphit, Highmore adds almost another $100,000 to that . That doesn’t change or prorate as long as Cagguila on ltir. When he comes back then that becomes relevant again.

Sikura is an AHL player. No need to talk about him anymore. Let’s talk about all the Hawks’ prospects Kelley and Bowman have drafted as forwards in Rockford? Ooops!
Oh, and I hope the league shows some bravery and investigates Bowman & McD for the Peters incident at Rockford with Akim Aliu? Very clear what Aliu said about them!

Sikura is definitely in the Joki situation.Seems he did not agree with the Hawks staff that he needed to put on 15 to 20 pounds and work on his game to stay at the NHL level.Has been a passenger at Rockford and will be dealt.

Aliu speculated that Peters told Bowman and McD to send Aliu down to Toledo in the ECHL because of the music he was playing. Tallon was the GM of the Hawks at the time. Mark Bernard was GM of minor league affiliations. John McDonough doesn’t give a shit about a fringe AHL player being sent to the ECHL. A year later Aliu was traded. A fresh start with a coach lacking alleged racial bias. What happened? He was loaned from one AHL team to another and sent down to another ECHL team.

Drama and controversy has followed Aliu for the last 15 years. Some of which I back him up on. The Steve Downie hazing incident I’m with him on.

As far as the Peters issue, the guy by all accounts is a turd. By all accounts he did use that word. But context is key. Based on what Aliu said, it sounds like Peters didn’t like the words in Aliu’s choice of music. He didn’t like a rookie playing loud music in the locker room with those lyrics. Then screams at Aliu for playing the songs using that specific word in his tirade. It’s reasonable to assume that Peters didn’t want that word in his locker room at all and a rookie who has a history of insubordination chose to play music with those lyrics anyway.

Now, I could be way off base. The alleged physical abuse is indefensible. But it doesn’t sound like Peters called Aliu that word. It sounds like Peters used that word to describe Aliu’s music as it used also used that word. Like saying country music is honky tonk crap.

Uh…not at all like calling country music “honky tonk crap”. That’s absurd to compare a white person in a position of power using the N word the same

Rusty….Spot on with the Peters /Aliu situation. Aliu stated Peters said the N word about the music only and did not call him that personally. Aliu is out of hockey for a reason, lack of professionalism, lack of talent…..etc.

As for Wedin, good to bring up a bottom six fwd to play bottom six. No need to bring up Sikura when he is a top six player to play a checking role, doesn’t make sense.

Agree with aj67, this guy Peters is a turd. He may not have used the word to describe Aliu, but I’d guess that he uses that ” word” more than on just these occasions.

The people who are making excuses for Peters using the N word are probably the same types that would call the police on black people barbecuing in the park.

S W S, I do believe that is a bad word. The only thing I have a problem with is how you are allowed to use it. A musical group can use it in a song. So if I’m singing that song and say the word am I in the wrong? Agree that no person should be called that. Don’t know your age but there was a good musical group with Dr Dre and Ice Cube and others that society didn’t have problem with what they called their group. They went by N.W.A. look it up. Times have changed and will continue to change. What was acceptable before may not be now. Only when society knows how to play with the same rules for everyone will we have peace and utopia. Guess what, it will never happen.

Nig word and laws or people acuusing people of laws like a few yrs ago, should only be talked about, not here I referring to, but anywhere by media league other.

Only during the off season. These things should never come out during the season. Same with scores of other games should not be up on scoreboard or over the loud speaker, during the games or intermission.

Stick to hockey and that game only. People have general public phones for that.

The players should not hear or know those things during a game. Full lockout.

It’s one thing for a black group like NWA to use the N word and a totally different thing for a white person to use it in an interaction with a black person – the latter is a recipe for disaster

That’s true now and it was true 10 years ago – it was true probably 30, 40 even 50 years ago

No excuse for Peter’s usage of the word and today we see he’s no longer coach of the Flames

How talented Aliu was is irrelevant

Need a full team effort again, Kane seemed like he was floating on the outside just waiting for break aways. If a puck wasn’t right in front of him he wouldn’t bother even attempting a board battle. I understand he’s a finesse player, but Jesus try for the puck a little. Just looked lazy today

There is a huge talent difference between the Avalanche #1 center and 19.Toews got horsed all day. It was a matchup on home ice that should have been avoided.Crawford was not good.Did not like 4 out of the 5 goals.92 has to sit tomorrow night.Put 65 on that line.Put Carpenter with 88 and 12.Dach can center for 8 and 15.64 was a ghost today.Move him to 4th line center and leave him there. No excuse for that mess today and not being prepared for the Colorado speed and transition game.

Yikes and just like that the Hawks are 12th in the Conference.
Sadly, The Avs beat us with some of their key guys, out with injuries.

I love the Dach pick, but he’s an 18-year-old who gets knocked to the ice pretty easily by grown men.
Nylander had a glorious chance to make 3-2 in the second period, he was in alone and did not score.
Kubalik had a chance to wire one in the second period from the off wing, Instead he stopped it and settled it allowing the defenders to get in the lanes and block his shot.

Hopefully, Lehner turns in another Vezina like performance tomorrow and we get even.

What they do tomorrow is the big thing. Keith out, Highmore down MacCosham up. Koekkoek likely plays.

Just a matter of time until this kinda game happened. They always seem to struggle with puck management early in games, this time Crawford wasn’t there to bail them out with vezina like performance. Need a big comeback tomorrow, one win in next to games at least, gives them 5 points in 5 division games. Not a big win but not a loss.
