Toews can have an opinion on anything he wants. But just because he has an audience does not mean he should tell us. Chances are he has no clue what the Paris Accords are!!!.
I wish he would share his opinion on how he can help make the Blackhawks better.
Toews is absolutely entitled to use his station as a prominent figure in professional sports to speak out on a subject about which he’s passionate. And to Mike’s comment about him not knowing about the Paris Accords, Toews is a very well educated, bilingual leader who has his head on as straight as anyone in professional sports. I respect the heck out of him taking a stand for something he believes in.
Thats why Cindy skirted Toews 6 of his first 7 yrs against him head to head. Theres a reason why Cindy dives on the ice and Tazer gets knocked down with crosschecks.
Tab, Respectfully, I don’t see it that way. Toews IS all those things you describe. But his 2 years of college at UND (hardly a progressive institution) does not make him an expert on much. I simply maintain that athletes and entertainers should stick with what the know.
That said, I love the Captain. I am hoping that his “passion” for hockey earns him another Cup
I don’t see how Toews voicing his opinion on what he believes is any different than what we do here voicing our own opinions somewhat informed and mostly just speculation and personal views because there is an audience.
What is different is that we do not have the Megaphone JT has. We also are not looked up upon by the youth of our society. I have no problem with his opinion, I even agree with him. However, those with Megaphones have a responsibility to be as knowledgeable. Not saying JT is not, but so many with Megaphones have no clue as to what they say. In this case, the Paris Accords are are a complicated matter that people with training and deep knowledge have spent years studying the Accord. How on earth does JT have the knowledge to say who is right and who is wrong.
Mike I not going to tell you how informed Toews is or isn’t on the Paris Accords but I don’t hear anyone disputing what he said just that he did so I will stand by my comment.
Completely agree with Mike. I believe that people with no deep or specialized knowledge of science or world affairs should not use their fame to sway public opinion. Just because someone is famous it does not make their opinion more important than others’ UNLESS they have expertise.
So season should start Wed. Oct. 4h
I hope J. Toews resolves his climate change issues by then.
I think we can blame most of the Hawks decline on the new president of the US.
The good thing is by then the Toews is better than Crosby conversation will be completely useless and completely unfounded
Hahaha, Little Caesars Arena. Might as well named it Flatlanders Arena.
Just because Toews is a hockey player doesn’t mean he can’t have an opinion on World events or the current President. Good on Toews.

Ok…Ok, my point is general and not specific to any one person or issue. I simply maintain that athletes and entertainers stick to what they know.
