Bryan Bickell Back On Waivers

He isn’t playing for the Blackhawks, and Chicago is now making Bryan Bickell available for any team to claim off waivers for a second time this season.

If he clears waivers, again, Bickell will have some more hair headed with him to Rockford apparently.

Feel bad for the guy but no one’s going to claim him and I think he is done for good in the Indian Head sweater. Wonder if Stan would be able/willing to retain some of his salary to have him get picked up by someone.

Sorry, always liked him but his performance has ” GOT UP & WENT ” so, ” GOOD LUCK ” but I think ROCKFORD IL. is your new forever home.

Four Million clams a season for some time now and a year to go…hard to feel sorry for that kind of life and you’re not even 30 yet. Wish my boss would had the same problem with me!

    Ebony Raptor- Bickell “growing” hair…whaddyasay?

  • January 16, 2016 at 11:59 am

This hair solutions thing is beyond cheesy. Grab the money while you can Bicks. Thanks for all the hits against the Ducks last year.

For some odd reason this brings on a flashback to either ’63 or ’64 ….our local library had a “Meet Lou Fontinato” day and of course I just had to go. We all formed a line and got to ask him a question in a private moment. This was after his violent and quick end to his career with a missed check to Vic Hatfield that knocked him out cold and I believe he was on a tour doing these kind of things to recuperate but he never made it back. I will never forget the question I asked him…” How many hat tricks have you scored?”..Expecting an answer like 11 or 14 or 27 …He answered back ( cannot possibly remember the exact quote ) something along the lines of ” I was lucky to score 3 goals in a year”. I think I embarrassed the guy but didn’t mean to, heck I was just a kid and meeting an NHL player in person was pretty much a big deal. Back then those guys didn’t make all that much money either. Bickell will be fine going forward.

Good luck Bryan thanks for big plays in 2o13! Barring a rash of injuries I believe his Hawks career is over.

You nailed it south side. It’s over. It was very telling recently when Q said he felt somewhat bad for Bickell, noting that he would need to earn more minutes, but in order to earn those minutes his play had to warrant it, and his play certainly did not.

At this point in his career and where his body is at, he is an Ahl player. He can put up points down there and continue to play hockey and he is set financially.

His tremendous play in the 2013 playoffs will never be forgotten as well as the way h physically engaged the kings in 2014 as well.

How about trading Bickell to Toronto and retain two million for Morin?

(“Bartender, I ll have another please, on the rocks”). The proposed trade would actually provide the Hawks an extra million in cap room.

Bickell is a very sad story. I genuinely worry for his longer term health. He’s a mess physically and mentally. Hockey can be a brutally destructive game for some. And they pay a heavy price.

Bickell to Rangers for Yandle. Bickell to Winny for Buff. Bickell to Vanc for Higgins.
Our problem for someone else’s problem is the only way we can get out of this. Need someone to take all the money or get little in return and eat no more than a mil.

RTF. I figure I’d find you on this post since it’s a negative for the Blackhawks and for Bickell. I also figured you’d be MIA on the post about the Blackhawks winning 10 in a row! You’re one sick puppy.

Bics to Montreal for all-star John Scott.

I have said this before and I will say it again………….there is no shame in running out of gas. He gave it all he had. Concussions, vertigo and injuries will cut short any promising hockey career. He can hold his head up high and leave the Hawks knowing he did his job when he was able to perform at a high level.

    Thanks Bryan. Good luck.

He must have mental problems because he was KILLING it when they sent him down last time. I don’t know. I think he gets too comfortable, and then lazy. Why didn’t he have “vertigo” problems when he was sent down? Maybe he was motivated to get back to the NHL…then he gets back and seems to rest on his laurels. I don’t feel sorry for him, and the way Coach Q broached the subject when asked earlier this week, I don’t think the Hawks’ brass do either.

    Stop it with Morin, Iceman

  • January 16, 2016 at 7:02 pm

    Good luck, Bryan Bickell.

Lifetime Hawks Fan – Good point. He was tearing it up in the AHL … That’s his level .. I hope we have seen the last of this ongoing soap opera.

  • January 16, 2016 at 7:55 pm

Dave — lighten up man, have a drink.

By the way, Bowman would make that trade in a heartbeat; it would be hilarious if he traded for Morin a third time.

Craig/Dunlop, That’s how I feel. This is good for Bicks longterm health after giving everything he did for the team and being a hero in ’13.

Very proud of Bick. Classic times fishing with Shawzer. We eat Sushi more often because of these guys.

Ha – MM, I revel in my old, fat and baldness. There’s a peace of mind that comes from not caring how others see me and in fact is the visage that best sends my piece of mind to the world of shaking my fist and shouting get off my lawn (along with the NRA bumper sticker on my pickup truck). =)

  • January 17, 2016 at 8:45 am

As for Bicks – it’s a shame his knees have let him down. I join the chorus of fans feeling bad for him because he is a nice guy everyone would want to see do well whether it’s in the Indian head or somewhere else. But, it is a business and I don’t feel sorry for him in the least in that regard – he will have made more in the 4 years of his current contract than I’ve made in 40 years.

ER=Sounds good to me. Freedom is a great thing and we have earned it. I still have my ’69 Chevy Malibu convertable with the bench seat up front and the factory AM only radio that sounds great…and an ashtray! Bought it second hand in 1971 and had a ton of fun with it…keep it well maintained, but it’s just for fun for a long time now…also have pickup truck, F150.

Bickell will get some endorsement deals, maybe radio and TV sport show stuff, and has a ton of money with another 4 million yet to come…plus he was doing quite well in Rockford.

Benn got 2 points last night and his juggernaut keeps going. Keep it going Kane! Let’s enjoy this run and hope we stay away from injuries. TT seems to be a target lately…Montreal and St. Louis mixed it up several times last night and with the Habs losing in OT they will be amped up…hungry for a win and full of revenge on the hockey world.

Mining Man. Jan. 16th @ 7:13pm. Like your last sentence in your post. Hope he’s gone for good this time!

  • January 17, 2016 at 11:23 am

    Bickell cleared, again

  • January 17, 2016 at 11:32 am

Bickell was just assigned to Rockford. Hopefully that is the end of the saga and he will play out his remaining hockey days as an Icehog or his contract will be bought out.

  • January 17, 2016 at 11:34 am

If you asked all the hockey playing boys in N. America, oh, approx two decades ago or so, what would they give to someday score a huge game changing goal in an SC Final, make $16M, sign autographs, and marry a pretty girl? “Anything”

Godspeed, Bryan. Fair seas and following winds to you. You’ll always have Game 6 to replay in your dreams – and the $$, too!

  • January 17, 2016 at 6:17 pm

There are a lot of great players that never win one cup. Bickel helped us win 3 Stanley Cups. His game has faded & now it is time for him to move on. A stick tap to Bickell. We should wish him well.

  • January 17, 2016 at 8:12 pm

Bickell was active for 2 of the 3 Cups. And, if we’re honest, his game was good for 4 weeks in 2013 and that’s been about it. But we’ve talked about the why w/ that contract for 3 years now… He’ll be gone soon. Tremendous human being who is loved by his teammates who just happens to have been overpaid after a hot streak at the right time.

  • January 18, 2016 at 12:21 am

…’s the new NHL….in the salary cap era this does happen from time to time…its all about money….Bickell might appear over in Chicago….but when his contract is up…will be a bargain basement veteran pickup ….his playoff contributions will always be remembered…another team will give him a chance for sure after a brief demotion to the minor leagues…..thanks for the memories Bickell…..poor guy….lol…..
