Handcuffs… the gift that keeps on giving…

New Bickell slogan… ” it’s better than nothing”

  • December 6, 2015 at 11:29 am

    I’m optimistic.

    It’s better than nothing.

    Let’s give him a shot

  • December 6, 2015 at 11:37 am

Just thrilled. Sure, let’s give him another shot-#122.

Earth to Hawks fans, if he hasn’t produced after all of these “shots,” spending a couple of weeks in Rockford isn’t going to turn him into Mario Lemieux.

    Better than Mashinter.

Wait, you guys already said better than nothing…

Bickel is a big body if he decides to use it, he had concussions in the past? He has a strong wrist shot again if has learned to get off before being blocked. We will see this afternoon.

It’s sickening that some of you rip Bickell, a player who clearly has suffered big physical and mental injury. He’s not an NHL player anymore. And he’s trying to hang on so he can collect on his contract which is his God given right. He’s providing for his family and gave the Hawks everything he’s got. Get off his back.

  • December 6, 2015 at 1:00 pm

I hope this means Mashinter sits or is sent back down. A lineup with Mashinter and Bickell harkens the days of old with Bolig and Zus.

  • December 6, 2015 at 1:01 pm

Hawks don’t get past Ducks without Bickells hits last Spring. Period. He has knee and neuro issues. Way to take the demotion- produce and earn it back. He can be frustrating to watch but can bring a lot when healthy. Stan’s only salary misstep.

  • December 6, 2015 at 1:16 pm

Rufus, thanks for letting us know when we can and can’t rip a player. Can you follow up with some additional guidelines, like on when we’re allowed to criticize a coach or GM?

  • December 6, 2015 at 1:30 pm

Welcome back Bicks! Other than Kaner’s line this team has zero chemistry. Bicks has been tearing it up in Rockford and Stan would be negligent if he didn’t bring him back. Seems as if his vertigo issues are finally resolved, so bring it Bicks.

1961, it’s a never ending rip job of Quenneville by you. Gutless no nothing pile of crap.

  • December 6, 2015 at 1:35 pm

Flatliner, if you want to poke fun at Bickell fhen by all means do so. The man is a shell of his former solid self on the ice and his contract is his contract. He’s still owed a lot of money and it his earned right not to walk away from that money.

I wonder if Tikhonov asked for his release or if this move was made to make move for Bickell. Either way its Bickell again, which in my world sucks!

Why Shaw is on this team still is surprising. He shouldnt be resigned and isnt producing.

  • December 6, 2015 at 1:47 pm

1961 (and others) — spot on re: Bickell’s time has passed. Also 1961, agree Bickell and Mashinter both in lineup — God forbid. Let’s hope Desjardins slots in and Mashinter slots out. I’ll repeat Dowell is a better player than Mashinter hands down. And I wasn’t aware Mr. Rufus joined the Hawks’ medcal staff re his insight as to Bickell’s health.

  • December 6, 2015 at 1:48 pm

Bickell always will come out like hell on skates after being “disciplined” by coach q. I expect him to be aggressive and eager to prove his worth again. Here’s hoping Bryan can overcome what ever obstacles that befell him prior. Bryan is a true Blackshawk to the core. He has the heart and ability to make things happen. I am wishing him well.

Rufus, I will be happy for 29 or 44 to get paid. That’s how contracts work…. But please, let the checks come from Rockford, metaphorically that is.

You said it yourself, he can’t play anymore. Even Arizona is not picking HIM up.

Santa, I’ve been a good boy this year, can’t you work through our cap problems and bring me a LW1….. Thank you!

  • December 6, 2015 at 1:50 pm

Not true Rufus. In 2015 Q did a masterful job in bringing home the Cup and I said as much. The 2014 Bolig/Zus fiasco had a major effect on the Hawks not winning the Cup and I said so. I seem to recall your statement that there was no way the Hawks would win the Cup last year and I said with a healthy Kane they would. Your prognosticating and judge of talent is suspect.

  • December 6, 2015 at 1:57 pm

P.S. It is also important to note that if Bickell fails to produce again at the NHL level, there is no hope the Hawks’ can unload him, even retaining 1/2 his cap hit. By leaving him at Rockford — where he was producing quite well — it would only take one GM to be hoodwinked based upon minor league production. All thi being said, I hope Bickell proves us all wrong and plays like he did in ’13 playoffs.

  • December 6, 2015 at 2:01 pm

1961 — agree 1000%, Q’s roll three lines ’14 playoffs did in fact cost Hawks’ Cup. That doesn’t mean he’s not a Hall of Fame coach, just means he blew it.

  • December 6, 2015 at 2:02 pm

I agree with Roger that Bickell probably will come out this afternoon and play a solid game. The bigger question is- how will he be playing 2 weeks down the road?

  • December 6, 2015 at 2:06 pm

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I can’t agree with getting rid of Shaw. He’s not producing points but he’s a net presence and plays hard. Dumb penalties at times withstanding, the only reason I think you ever get rid of him is to have him in a deal which makes the team better overall.
As for Bickell, I’ll give him another chance, no matter what number this might be. The bottom two lines aren’t producing, and he makes more sense to me than Mashinter and some of the other guys who have been playing. We’ll see, but I’m going to remain cautiously optimistic. Go Blackhawks!!!

  • December 6, 2015 at 2:17 pm

Iceman- Let us hope we have 4 solid lines rolling when the playoffs come around this year. Unfortunately Q’s options seem more limited this year than the last several years.

  • December 6, 2015 at 2:42 pm

    Bickell – I’m for a clean slate/fresh restart = let’s see what he has.

“how will he be playing 2 weeks down the road?” (Hawks 1961) – very good point. It’s unrealistic to assume he’ll be the “Playoff Bick” from the 2013 Cup run, but I would hope he’s a little closer to that than the sleepwalking we watched earlier this year.

Ever the optimist = he’s gotta be better than Mashinter?

  • December 6, 2015 at 2:51 pm

Bickell could have gone down to the hogs go through the motions and collect his four million dollars a year. Instead he became a leader worked hard and helped his team. Does that make him the answer the Hawks are looking for, absolutely not. But things could be a lot worse and he’s a hell of a lot better than mash.

  • December 6, 2015 at 4:08 pm

This is just what the guys need. Bring emotion to the group because know what hes been through and think were going to play a better team game because of this.

Shawzer always brings out the best in Bicks. The 3rd hasn’t been good since Bicks and Shawzer in 13 (other then the wks of 10/80/86) and its was 65 that got 29 going in 13 with that 3rd line.

I do not care if 65 isint scoring as many goals as he has before. Once we get our 4 lines tuned up 65/those kind of guys will contribute goals.

Good times ahead, as I look for another good mth (like NOV) and a much better JAN and FEB then usual and to drink beer with authority as we will play Blackhawks hockey.

  • December 30, 2015 at 11:34 pm

Bic played his ass off…but we will see if he can do the same in the big show. Modern day salary cap sucks, it make it harder for Q to have a team in Sync. But I have faith in the end all we need is a healthy team to make a run.
