Daniel Carcillo’s Stupid, Suspension-Worthy Hit (video)

As you can see from the hit, and the immediate reaction of Chicago’s play-by-play announcer Pat Foley, Daniel Carcillo will likely get a call from Brendan Shanahan’s office soon.

Carcillo has a track record with the league’s discipline office. He has already been suspended once this year, and served another suspension to begin the season that carried over from last year. Indeed, he has a lengthy track record with missing games because of stupidity. From TSN, here’s Carcillo’s track record:

  • 2008/10/17 Suspended by the NHL for 2 games.
  • 2009/12/06 Suspended by the NHL for 4 games.
  • 2010/03/30 Suspended by the NHL for 2 games.
  • 2011/05/17 Suspended by the NHL for 2 games.
  • 2011/10/29 Suspended by the NHL for 2 games

Here’s the video from the season’s other repeat offender, Edmonton’s Andy Sutton, who received an eight match suspension. Many of the same points apply to this hit from Carcillo. He has been suspended five times previously, including once this season, and the intent of┬áthis hit was clearly malicious; Carcillo makes little/no effort to play the puck. Carcillo could face a suspension similar in length.

Call it a 10 gamer and if he’s still injured place him on LTIR. I gave him the benefit of the doubt but this was just a blatantly stupid play that transformed a 1 goal lead into a loss. Their worthless PP that can’t even get set up didn’t help matters either.

It’s clear your frustrated with the it Tab, and obviously you don’t like Carcillo but it was not as nasty a hit as Sutton’s, you can’t compare them…sorry. Yes, stupid hit but I’d say it’s 2-3 games only, the reason the hit looked worse was the way they both fell was awkward, it wasn’t a hard push and Gilbert slowed up before it happened.

I like you’re blog but you gotta keep away from writing garbage-angry articles like this,

The two hits are nothing alike! In the one video the offender left his feet and went to the guys head!!!! Carcillo did nothing of the sort.

Notice how eager Ben Eager wasn’t when Big John stepped up to him?

The play was more dangerous then Sutton’s because of the location lucky gilbert went into the boards sideways and not headfirst. Sutton’s intention may have been worse Carcillo is just a lot dumber.

I don’t think Carcillo realized how hard Gilbert would hit the boards. I think it was an honest mistake, Carcillo is a physical player, and Gilbert should have expected the check.

This was an incredibly dangerous play, anyone who has played the game knows it. Racing into the end wall and not playing the puck is a garbage bush league move. The pussy move was finishing the hit and destroying the guy 10 feet from the puck.

Carcillo deserves at least 10-15 games.

@ Andrew, yes dangerous play to a repeat offender, but it’ll be 2-4 games max, it wasn’t a shot to the head which is Shanny’s main motivator behind suspensions, it was a reckless hit for sure but there were things Gilbert did that factored into the severity of the hit, and Carcillo got a misconduct so that will basically take a game off of the possible suspension because of lost salary from the game, 10-15 is a joke.

Indefinitley means he is for sure suspended just until a decision is made just so you know, and this has not been the only hit like that this year, there have been a few pushes into the boards like that and the others were worse, once again, it won’t be a lot Of games.

And thanks for the link I read it 3 hours ago, honestly I don’t care how much of a suspension he gets I’m more concerned about his knee, were gonna need him down the road.
