God Bless Rocky Wirtz! Best owner in hockey. Thanks for all the joy (with very little pain) you’ve brought to our winter/spring these past 9 years.

Would have never guessed in a million years that this franchise would be as successful and popular as it is now. Thank you Rocky!

I always wondered why Peter gave up his post. Not that I care too much because he may have had something to do with being named worst franchise in sports.

Isn’t it amazing how much has changed and how recently it seemed like we would never win one? Let alone 3…and hopefully more.

God bless Rocky! Success starts at the top. And unlike some other owners, Rocky defines success as “WINNING” and lets the profits come after that rather than the other way around.

The franchise succession plan was always from Bill Wirtz to Rocky Wirtz, the eldest son (after Bill’s brother Michael Wirtz died). Peter Wirtz was very close to his father but not close at all to Rocky. Peter worked closely with his father (Bill Wirtz) and also ran the Bismark Concessions arm of the Wirtz empire.

Rocky was only involved with the Blackhawks at arm’s length for many, many years because he felt his ideas would be dismissed by his father. Which was true. Peter Wirtz was a clone of his father in terms of how to run things. When Rocky took over the franchise, he offered Peter a chance to stay involved on some level but Peter declined, because as said, the two brothers have never been close and have never really got along all that well.

There is a continued succession plan in place for when something happens to Rocky – his son.

I met Rocky one night at the UC, his seats were 3 rows behind me. People would stand and take pictures and we had no idea who was there till I saw him . After a 5 min talk with him I knew he was a real fan of the game and the fans. All sports could use owners like Mr Wirtz thank god he’s ours.

    Fucking A right, Rocky.

I too meet Rocky at a game his seats were about 10 seats to the side in same row. Took time to talk to me for a bit. I asked him, how’s it going, eh. Not sure if he saw strange brew.
