Hockey Canada Announces Training Camp Invites

On Monday afternoon, Hockey Canada announced the list of players invited to their training camp in late August.

Among those listed are Blackhawks Corey Crawford, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, Patrick Sharp and Jonathan Toews.

Earlier in July, Sweden announced the players invited to their training camp. Blackhawks Marcus Krüger, Johnny Oduya and Niklas Hjalmarsson made the list.

In June, Finland named their invite list and it included Blackhawks prospect Antti Raanta.

The Blackhawks will not have a representative at Russia’s camp.

Congrats for Crow! What an accomplishment to be invited to team Canada as a starting goalie. Does the NHL teams usually carry 3 goalies? The way I look at it, he has as good of a chance to start for team Canada as anyone this season. Wouldn’t it be funny if he was added and Bobby Lou was left off the roster?

Just to back up and be clear: these are training camp roster, NOT final rosters for the Games. The final rosters will be announced on 12/31/13.

The 12 Blackhawks invited (so far) are ONLY to the respective training camps.

With that being said, I still believe Crawford has a very good shot of making Canada’s final roster.

Tab what I meant to ask, do Olympic hockey teams usually carry 2 or 3 goalies?
