IceHogs Sign Mac Carruth
On Monday afternoon, the Rockford IceHogs announced that they have signed goaltender Mac Carruth on a one-year AHL contract for the 2015-16 season. Carruth, 23, was drafted in the seventh round (191st overall) in the 2010 NHL Draft by the Blackhawks.
He spent most of last year with the Indy Fuel of the ECHL, but did appear in three regular season games for the IceHogs. Carruth posted a 2-1-0 record with a 1.69 goals against average and .925 save percentage and one shutout with Rockford.
Depth for Rockford, note the AHL contract and only for one year. I expect Leighton and Visentin to carry the load but most years you need three goalies anyway.
Mac played decent for the Indy team so he’ll probably carry the load there.
I like the idea of Visentin.
Visentin has a high ceiling. Looking back now PHX probably wishes they had kept him after their other goalie prospect went overseas.
I think maybe the form displayed in this photo of Carruth (note the gaping wide open short side and top shelf and shoulders not square to the shooter) is why the Hawks hired yet another goalie coach?
