IceHogs Sign Michael Krutil to AHL Contract

On Wednesday morning the Rockford IceHogs signed defenseman Michael Krutil to an AHL contract.

Krutil, 18, was the Blackhawks’ fourth round pick (#110 overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft. The right-handed shot is listed at 6-3 and 203 pounds.

His bio on says: “Krutil was the Czech’s most notable defensemen and among the best players on the ice. He’s effective at moving the puck with a man advantage and displays some creative stickhandling. He can stay calm under pressure and finds solutions even when he had little time on his hands. He doesn’t hesitate to use his body to protect the puck.”

Hope he lives up to his potential. Still can sign 3 year elc after this season if they want.

Blackhawks supposed to have made an offer along with Red Wings to Damir Zhafyarov. Khl 3rd leading scorer, 5’9″ RW 26 yr old who was a checker early on has become a scorer last 3 seasons when given chance with offensive
Linemates. 20g and 58 pts in 54 games this year. Nobody has his Nhl rights and Fa in April and turns 27 in March so not an elc contract, be a regular one if signed.

Made me think of Rutta (who, incidentally, played well for us when he first got here and now seems to have found a home logging 15+ minutes a night for TBL).

Ian – why do you think he was signed to an AHL contract instead of the typical ELC?

MS they retain his rights under an Ahl deal, only 18 yet so it gives him another year in the system to earn another contract, be my guess.

@ian, I just saw the news regarding Damir Zhafyarov..our European scouts have an exceptional track record for finding NHL players..and the Hawks could really use another scoring winger to add to their depth..excited to see who he signs with..hopefully the the very least, he would be insurance for Nylander, in case his rehab has any setbacks..

I do wonder what his first contract would look like? Gusev got $4.5 mil per year from the Devils..not sure what Zhafyarov would be looking for..that’s the one area where the Red Wings have an advantage..they could overpay if they wanted.

Contract wise for damir would probably be $2-3 million aav on a one or two year deal

Slayer hoping he may be the next gem from Europe, liked hearing the part where he was checker first few years in Khl then became a scorer when given the chance. Should be a complete player not a powder puff type.

Agree MS on the contract, don’t see Bowman signing him long term on first contract. Not paying more than 3m would be pretty good signing.

@ian..yes, I felt the same way..worked on becoming a 200 ft player first and then started developing/expanding his toolkit offensively…would definitely be nice to be able to grab a top nine forward without utilizing a draft pick..that’s what I especially love about these European additons to the Hawks..they still allow Stan to keep his draft picks in place..

@ms..anywhere between 2-3mil per year would be solid. Essentially what you would pay a third liner in free agency but he could end up providing top six value..

Rockford is a dumpster fire….they have looked horrible and zero wins so far.
Never heard of half their players either, all free agent signings ??
