The Blackhawks have had a few captains for Canada at the WJC in the past. Troy Murray was the captain for Canada in 1982. And Steve McCarthy was the captain in 2001.
Current free agent center Dylan Strome was the captain for Canada in 2017.
Good for him, likely won’t be long until we see him wearing an “A” for the Blackhawks and quite possibly the organizations next “C”.
Congrats to Dach. The Blackhawks should be, and I as a fan am very proud.
Congrats Dacher.
Captain. Of the country that lives and dies hockey like no other. Playing in his own backyard. No pressure. None at all.
These are the moments you prep your whole life for.
Great stuff!
Congrats to Kirby
Looking at the divisions it’s a healthy bet the Blackhawks make the playoffs….and if they do not you can blame the coach.
I understand keith toews and company are paid to play first line minutes but maybe they need to spend more time on the bench critiqueing the players in the moment. What exactly does development look like? For most teams based on what I’ve seen over the years its mostly roll the dice until you get it right. Seriously that’s usually how it goes. How about focusing on getting the players experience and coach them as they go.
Now you may say the Blackhawks do have some tough teams in the division and I would agree but given the compact schedule expect to see more back up goalies starting and odds are they will be started against the Blackhawks. All depends on Blackhawks goalkeeper of course. Opportunity is there and in wish them well but my money is on Lankinen of the three though he may not be regular in net until next year….and that’s only of he is protected from Seattle. Unprotected expect him to be a kraken.
Wonder how the players union veterans feel about no preseason ….will the prospects be allowed on the roster until ahl starts in supposedly February? Should be interesting. Personally I like what I’ve seen from quenville for the most part maybe he finds some traction this year. Speaking of waiver wire players we will see about pirri….personally I did like what I saw from sikura however he was not a good fit for this team too much brains no where near enough brawn. If I were him I would be eating like a maniac and hitting the gym like a maniac but what do I know?
Lots of teams looking to make trades Blackhawks in position to eat some cap hit however other teams in far better position to do the same.
56 games you need a hot goalie. AZ and Vegas need cap space. Can you sign a fa for a mil or 2.
Agree I would like Lankinen take the reins. If we do not get a goalie must get offense to out score the opponent. Anthanasiou for 3yrs or Hoffman or Haula for 1 or 2 respectively.
Stay the course. Youth movement. No Hoffman. No Haula. Play the kids. Making the playoffs is not the objective this year – it’s finding out which young players can be part of the rebuild and giving them game experience. Keep your eyes on the prize and the prize isn’t to make the playoffs with no hope of contending for the Cup – it’s to get better so that somewhere down the line they will get better enough to contend for the Cup.
Eraptor…agre it’s not the time to find old players we need to play the Kids and stay focus on giving them the ice time they need to grow up .hawks already have older players to help them develop. Hagel,Kurashev, Regula,Beaudin, Carlson and others will need ice time .
Focus on the kids and give them NHL experience send them back to Rockford and give other kids the chance they deserve to play in the big league to give them the confidence they need.
We have many young kids to develop and it’s the perfect timing ..Now
Nobody expect them to win the Cup this year .
Go Hawks Go
Have to give Bowman credit for the Dach draft pick. A number of us were very critical of that pick and he seems to be putting it together. Maybe Hawks also caught a break being at #3 and not the top two spots that draft hear.
That pic says it all. Byram 2nd best after Dach. Everytime I see the Byram person/his face has spoiled little brat all over it.
You can see who is the man out of those players. We made the right choice and then some. Could be another 3rd pick like 19 thats the player of the draft.
H65 and myself liked the Dach choice. My reason for signing Hoffman or Haula is to have them put up points and flip to a contender at TDL for assets. Believe Tab put that in play.
Agree that I would like the kids to be played. I would like to consider Anthanasiou to be in that youth category with only being 25. Would and that speed factor. Picture Fortin but with a high scoring touch. 6’2′ 190 adds size also.
The best teams in the last 3-5 yrs deserve and have paid there dues Tampa Bay in hockey Dodgers Clemson/with full roster or maybe Ohio State/Alabama same with Dustin Johnson/Chambu and sports is right in a world. The right teams won. When you can say any team that doesnt really ddeserve to wins doesnt count on a yr like this.
When these deserving/paid your dues teams win/when they haven’t before yet and on this yr woin hey should have before/didntyet way moar deserving of others newbes. This virus yr was actually a good yr for sports in that the right temas won.
Now on with the virus cap and hold the undeserving teams/make them pay there dues whether they want to or not they are forced to like all expansion teams should be forced to suck for a decade. Where is Vegas gamblers/?lap dancers fixed roster at 4 yrs? or 5? I am counting to when they are allowed to “play’ for real.
Take a number and get in line or youre/well youve seen the tv show.
Gotta love those drunken texts/posts. Thats where the funny stuff comes from sometimes.
Reports coming out that 56 game regular season will run from Jan. 13th to May 8th, with finals ending before mid July. Expansion draft July 21st and amateur draft July 22nd and 23rd. Free agency opens July 28th and Rfa QOs, buyout periods to fit in around those dates where they normally would. Tdl Aprli 12th with standard 23 man max roster and 81.5m salary cap.
A 4 to 6 man taxi squad that waivers will apply like Ahl to anyone assigned there. This may give younger players who are waiver exempt and ready for some Nhl time advantage in ability to go between taxi squad freely. Players like Pirri, Quenneville, Seeler, Lindholm, Smith are limited in their flexibilty around waivers. Though anybidy picking them up would need to keep them on Nhl roster not taxi squads or waivers be required again.
With players own personal contracts requiring signing bonuses to be paid on July 1st, that could make moving some medium and bigger caphit contracts around the draft or in off season more attractive to teams, with reduced actual salary to take on caphit.
If anybody wondering, players with nmcs would not be eligible to be put on taxi squads as waivers require movement from roster and nmcs don’t allow it.
Thanks for the info.
World juniors after christmas/wknd.
Bears going to the SB…. Ask Nagy…
Making the playoffs and winning the Cup should be every team’ s objective every year, without exception.
Not realistic for many teams, we know.
And that usually shows itself by mid season.
But every team better have it in their intestinal fortitude to bust their ass trying to achieve that goal.
Your goal of making the playoffs can pay off if you get in. Ask the 2012 Kings about that.
Hell while we are at it, let’s ask the 2010 Flyers, who got in on the last day of regular season.
They gave the Hawks all they could handle in the SCF.
Anyone who says goal this year is not making playoffs?
When CoVid is over, I got two ballet tickets for you.
Sheesh. Can we as a society, get any softer?
Not going against anything your saying. I thought LA 12 and 17 NAS were top 5 league teams that didnt have good regular season records/and or were build for playoffs roster wise. Now NJ 12 and NYR 14? were those cinderellas.
NHL is back and so am I
Personally not surprised about the Stan promotion – the signs were there
If things backslide he could be pressured to hire a new GM but I am optimistic that the Hawks will be trending up this year
Ian – am I right to think the taxi squad is just like the AHL as far as waivers are concerned so that if a player on the taxi squad is activated to the NHL roster he then has to pass waivers to be reassigned to the taxi squad?
Lots of stuff here to consider, but I will focus on Dach. He is a vast part of our future. I am offended when analysts compare him against Kakko and Hughes and conclude that there was little difference between the three. BS! Give or take a point, Kakko and Hughes were about Minus-25. They had nothing to offer if they weren’t scoring. Dach as a teenager, was EVEN! Give this kid a punching bag and a trainer and he will be one of the best in the NHL soon.
Wrap if a player clears waivers, he can be recalled after that and not need waivers until he has played 10 games or on roster for 30 days. You would think maybe that is adjusted to something like 6 or 7 games and 20 games or so for this year only. Also if recalled on an emergency recall, that can be up to 10 games. Be interesting to see how teams manipulate that this year, probably see alot of diffeent scenariis with how taxi squad is managed.
Wrap actually just read this morning that the waivers recalls are some of what is not being prorated this sesson. So 10 games or 30 days brfore requiring waivers again stays the same, as does 10 game emergency recall limit.
Thanks Ian for your due diligence
Allen, I didnt look at stats but based on what people said here I am with 77 being the top player in the draft at 3rd pick just like 19. A monster of a player just like 19.
Now we need that other high end player and a couple top pair D guys.
Who knows about this draft player if he like Bolly then its a important piece. I wasnt sure about Dach at first but was ok that we didnt pick Byram. Cant stand spoiled/I mean think they given the spot before earning it like that Flatlander Hayes.
Byram reminds me of Hayes. Dach reminds me of Tazer. Just a workhorse and a deserving one. So proud of our guys/crew wanting Dach the most.
