Lukas Reichel Takes Ugly Hit to Head at World Championships

Germany is playing Kazakhstan in the World Championships on Wednesday morning (in the US) and, unfortunately, Blackhawks prospect Lukas Reichel was subject to an ugly hit to the head.

Reichel, the Hawks’ first round pick in 2020, is among the leading scorers in the tournament. He did return for the second period.

  1. I wish the video clip kept going for a couple more seconds because it looked like he got up and was going to keep playing which would have been a good sign.

  2. EB- I believe he came back for one shift but that was it. Only skated 5 and half minutes in the game.

  3. Hopefully all is ok, nasty hit. Power looks great but always hear a short tournament is not a good way to base final judgement on a prospect.

  4. Can we please get some players that will hit back right in the head like Dunks did. That sissy sedin tried to hit Dunks in head and wether he did or not he tried so Dunks put it right back to him/same way. Thats the way it should be done. Cant rely on refs league or anything else. A boxing match for a min doesnt pay the cheap player back what they deserve.

And if its a goon who does it then there top players should be headed not the meaningless player. He should then be boxed.

I donot like head hits at.

  5. Yeah. That was the best of Dunc’s three head shot suspensions – that I can remember.

  6. Probably going to miss the rest of the tournament which is too bad for his development

Hopefully he’s fully recovered for training camp

  7. Hawks29 have you watched documentary about Grant Fuhr. Kind of reminds about him, picked 8th overall by Oilers, Sather said when it was their turn to pick, his head scout told him to take Fuhr. Sather he said he watched Fuhr at world juniors and one other game, he was terrible, no way he was taking him at 8th overall. His head scout said you saw him play twice, i saw him play 200 times pick him, arguably best goalie of his era and Gretzky, Messier, Coffey all say how valuable he was to them and they wouldn’t have won without him. Helps to look good in these tournaments but good scouting is worth it’s weight in gold. Which is the white elephant of this draft, lack of opportunity to do proper scouting.

  8. Wrap. did you read something about Reichel missing the rest of the tournament or are you guessing he probably should?

  9. Ian/ER – yeah I’m just guessing – based on watching the hit it seems he likely has a concussion but I haven’t read anything to that effect so I could be wrong – hopefully I am

  10. Just saw a report from German team, they are monitoring Reichel until tomorrows game, no decision yet on if he plays or no concussion diagnosis made yet.

  11. I see NHL Central Scouting has Mason McTavish in it’s latest rankings out today as the #2 skater in NA ahead of Kent Johnson Luke Hughes Matt Beniers Dylan Guenther and others

That’s a big change – McTavish is someone I and others here had their eyes on for the Hawks at 11 but it seems the word is out on him and he may not be there for the Hawks after all

  12. @wrap..not many projected centers at the top of this year’s draft..I’m actually not sold on McTavish as a center at the nhl level although I think he could be a very intriguing power forward on either wing(maybe similar to Dylan Holloway?)..but that’s probably what’s pushing McTavish’s stock up-similar to the 2018 draft where Kotkaniemi and Hayton went in the top five because teams will reach if they think they can find a center..could still be good news for the Hawks..perhaps a player or two will slide simply because they don’t project as a center..I’ll continue to bang the drum for Wallstedt but I’d be ecstatic to have some shake-ups during the first round that could work in the Hawks favor draft board wise..

  13. Slayer – I think we will see some picks ahead of the Hawks that will be surprising leaving someone to fall to the Hawks that they didn’t expect

I saw one mock draft that had the Hawks taking Simon Edvinsson a big D man who from what I have read would be a steal at 11

  14. Wrap
Don’t get too excited about Edvinsson because he will be gone before 5 and would not be surprise at no 3
But iff he is still available at 7 maybe Hawks should move up with a prospect or second round pick.
I still think it will be a very difficult choice for the top 7-8 pick because it’s was a very short season for some kids in different league so the développement wasn’t the same and some players didn’t had enough games to show up.
We might have many surprise in the first 2 rounds. Hand we have 3 choices and if the Wild can continue to play the same game we might go to pick at around 53-55(Vegas) plus their own pick at 43-44 ..the question is ..will they find Gems ? ? ?????????

  15. Hawks2010 – I’m sure you’re right regarding Edvinsson but my point was just to illustrate how wildly different projections are this year because of lack of scouting time – this could play in the Hawks favour as far as players falling back and if they pick the right guy

  16. Hawks2010 was watching the Wild/Vgk series too and thinking about that pick and maybe Wild will help Blackhawks out tomorrow night.

Agree be surprised that some players are picked in top 10 and who is still around at 11th likely. Good chance may be surprised who Bowman takes if still picking at no. 11 after lottery, as well.

  17. Looking at the former (and future) Central Division I cannot see the Blackhawks competing with most of the teams save for possibly St. Louis and Dallas. Colorado, Minnesota, Nashville, Winnipeg – a repeat of Tampa, Carolina, and Nashville this year. These teams are heavy and/or fast. The forward groups play a two-way game. After watching these teams in the playoffs . . . Another development year is in store for the Hawks. Hope for good development and a lucky bounce of the ping pong balls this year and next.

  18. Oh we ll find gems in the 30-45th area bet your but. Its the 45-60 area that scares me. trade up for 30-45 area!

  19. Thats how we got Teuvo others past and we got rewarded.

Sioux thats the best thing for us top competition and more top 5 skill draft players. We get a couple studs and well be the next COL in 4/5 yrs.

  20. Probably 5 teams make playoffs from central next season. With VGK as only really strong looking team in west. Oilers only other west team to make playoffs this year. Coyotes in Central next season too, so 5 of Blues, Stars, Blackhaeks and Coyotes, Preds, Jets, Wild and Avs will likely be in next year.

  21. Ian
I don’t think it’s a good idea but probably Vegas will Not play Fleury tonight .
I would love to see Wild winning that série.
Climbing a 6-8 spot in the second round would be really good .
    Wrap
Agree we might get a few really good players in the first 2 rounds
And who knows ..we might get lucky with the lottery…. and get Edvinsson or ?

  22. The only team in next years Central Division that the Hawks as constructed will be competitive against is the Coyotes. Dallas is that team at the end of the season, with nothing on the line, pummeled the Hawks into oblivion as they outshot them 54-18 on United Center Ice as they controlled the puck and manhandled the Hawks as did most every team in the COVID year. As an opposing team it must be wonderful to see Colliton,s Hawks on your schedule. You don’t have to worry about being hit,you won’t have to chase the puck at all,all of your players will have caverns of open space in the slot areas-net front, and even on the road you can get the exact matchups that you want. In the NHL thats what they call an Open Skate on your schedule. Lots of soft passive players and young players that are undersized. EUROHAWKS!!

  23. DAL STL other are teams VAN to that should be the normal DAL STL VAN with a full 82 games and variety of teams/not the forced against your will same teams for 56 of 56 games.

Which means the benefish teams this yr MTL EDM WIN PIT NYR NAS and even MIN wont make playoffs or be way lower then they were for these 56 games because of sch strength and length.

I see the same teams that were top 8 seeds for 2020 being the playoff teams and adjust for who is worse/better since 2020.

Teams like STL NAS DAL can play 50/50 for 41 games then tear it up for a section of the 82 games and still be +20 over .500 you cant do that in a 56 game forced team sch.

  24. I am ok/per say with Dunks getting one game suspension and other guy getting none even though I think first hiiter should always get more then retailator.

Its playing with proper pushback/take no shit. Playing smart overall drawling others into penaltys more often though when it comes to cheapshots you have to do same back cant just go along and have a arranged boxing match in first mins of next game and all is well. get the F out of here.

You hit ot try to heit Dunks in the head he will hit you back and not miss. You got what you desevred.

And for that yr we werent deep/2011 and VAN was the top team because we didnt have depth that yr. VAN didnt win because they were missing one of there top players/why because he tried to it Dunks in the head and Dunks gave it back/same way and he was out or not the same after that and thats what cost them the Cup that yr.

So I ll take a one game for doing the right thing and not taking shit for certain things like that. Other stuff sure need to play smart and donot do follish penaltys.
