I read there’s alot of animosity towards this news but its only a couple hours between.

Its not that horrible. Waiting a year and a half for Game of Thrones and Rick & Morty. Now thats painful.

A lucky day to say the least for the Hawks-new motto–‘One More Time’ (please)
They had a 8.1% chance that year-(2nd pick was Billy Sweatt-3 games-0 points)

Looks like JVR will be gone-wonder who will get him? It will be way too expensive for any team. Hawks do need someone to get the greasy goals, but less expensive. A lot of his goals are due to pretty sick hands in tight.

If there is any justice Buffalo gets the first pick. But I think they will miss wide right.

  • April 26, 2018 at 5:40 pm

JVR doesn’t skate well enough for the new fast paced game

More of a PP specialist not a good 5 on 5 player but I agree Hawks need more net front players who can score

For what he would cost I think the Hawks will and should pass

  • April 26, 2018 at 6:35 pm

Wraparound agree JVR might give 20 to 30 goals but the speed and defensive game non existent.

  • April 26, 2018 at 7:05 pm

Noonan the wide right made me laugh..good one. Wraparound and Ian you guys are correct JVR is a snail that the Hawks don’t need and he no longer fits with the speed of the Leafs

I hope BOWMAN, KELLEY and GAUTHIER were taking notes watching the Bruins, Pens, Knights, Caps, San Jose and then tomorrow with Jets and Preds!
All about, size, speed, skill and toughness. They all may have one smallish player but the rest??? Crazy good! We are sooooooooo behind the talent pool.
Debrincat might be a cute little player but he would never touch the puck against all these teams.
Osterle, Rutta, Gustafson, Dalstrom, Mitchell, Hillman, Jo??? Wow, were are really lacking talent. And then you look at our smallish forwards in VINNY, DEBRINCAT, Highmore, ??? One Kane smallish player is all we need, like we won cups…The rest we needm, SIZE, SPEED, and SKILL all in one. Everywhere!
Just the fact that Bowman signed Rutta and Osterle for two years is nuts and irresponsible.

So if I have figured this out correctly, when the NHL unveils 4 through 15, the Hawks can only wind up 7, 8, 9 or 10. If the Hawks placard does not show up in that range, that means we are in the top 3. So when Bill Daly starts showing logos at number 15 then, 14 and 13, there is no reason to perk up until number 10. From there, if the Hawks placard does NOT show up it’s great news.

Kind of ridiculous but so is Trey Wingo huffing and puffing before and after every NFL pick.

    Pens not really big-
    Simon 176
    Rust-5 11-190
    Sherry 5’8 175
    Hagelin 5’11 186
even Phil not big and Sid is a tank but only 5″11–and their D id mid-sized

I do agree they need to be harder to play against but the new NHL allows a nice mix of D-Cats and Tyler Myers

  • April 27, 2018 at 7:55 am

I was about to say the same Noonan. The Pens are not big at all and neither are the Bolts.

The “Ejde” with 2 goals last nite in Hogs win…

Kahun- wins title again… is SB gonna land him???

In last blog- I suggested SB/Hawks pursue some of the Czechs in next draft– find the next Hossa/Pastrnak!!! and — Czechs beat Canada- in upset…. Hhmmmm!!!

  • April 27, 2018 at 8:59 am

What`s so special about the Pens ? We beat em 10 -3 opening night Duuuuuuuuuuuh.

  • April 27, 2018 at 9:07 am

Of the top 10 heaviest teams in the league only Caps at 3rd and Jets 6th are still alive, Stars and Blues 2 heaviest and Bolts lightest. Of the 10 shortest teams in the league half of them Bolts, Bruins, Preds, Pens and Sharks are still alive.

There’s an old saying in Texas Hold-em – “Early winners, late losers”….

Me thinks we peaked too soon…..

    Just a tad !

  • April 27, 2018 at 10:26 am

Our needs are simple ,.,.,draft North American D-men and goalies , hell why not .

  • April 27, 2018 at 12:02 pm

Wall the Czechs don’t have no. 1 the market cornered on Hossa style players and no. 2 he’s Slovak.

  • April 27, 2018 at 12:19 pm

Ian- I refer to Slovaks/Czechs as the “same”… I know they are different… and I am probably offending someone… sorry- no disrespect meant

Just suggesting- SB scour the Earth for talent outside the normal- swedes/fins/russians… Actually- a couple “Slovaks” are putting up nice #’s in the U-18 tourney… and most are not on Top Draft lists…

Seems to be a lot of Finland U-18/17 year olds… also putting up nice #’s

Kaapo Kakko – love the name,,, kid is putting up nice numbers… 2019 draft
Big as Patrick Laine… 2019 looking like great Draft…

@ Mikita21 – not to be a pain in the ass but it was Rutta and Gustafsson that SB just signed to 2 year contracts. Oesterle got two a 2 year deal last summer so has 1 year left.

If the D that ended this year is mostly the same as the D that starts this October than I agree SB is nuts but I don’t think it will be.

Between 44, 56 and 82 maybe one or two can fill a 3rd pair role or 7th D – others could be traded or be in Rockford or claimed on waivers

I will take speed, skill and heart over size, any day.

  • April 27, 2018 at 11:06 pm

Sorry about that Wrap, but 1 or 2, all the same, he was nuts to sign these guys. And how did Osterle who could not make a bad Edmonton team a few years ago get a 2 year contract. Reg, I will take size, speed, skill and heart combioned any day! We have one Kane who is all about speed, skill and heart…. But look atr the 2010, 2013, 2015 lineups…just for fun…Let me know how many small forwards are on those CUP teams? Adam Burrish, John Madden, Shaw, Teuvo and Kruger? Look up the size of the rest of those 3 combined teams…Look up their size and speed. Here let me help you:

    Buff Toews, Kane
    Ladd Sharp Hossa
    Kopecky, Bolland Versteeg
    Eager Madden Brouwer (Fraser, Burrish)

    Keith, Seabrook
    Hjalmarsson, Sopel,
    Campbell, Boyton (Barker, Hendry)

    Saad Toews Kane
    Sharp Handzus Hossa
    Bickell Shaw Stalberg
Kruger Bolland Frolic (Carcillo, Mayers, Smith)

    Keith Seabrook
    Oduya Hjalmarsson
    Leddy Rozsival

    Versteeg Toews Hossa
    Saad Richards Kane
    Sharp Vermette Teravainen
    Desjardins Kruger Shaw (Bickell)

    Keith Seabrook
    Oduya Hjalmarsson
    Timonen Van riemsdyk (Roszival)

Reg, I will let you tell me how many players on these rosters was under 6 feet tall???

  • April 27, 2018 at 11:16 pm

BTW, now that the Icehogs made some cash in the first round let’s see Mr. Bowman’s prized possessions all in the lineup at the same time! Have the old veterans take a seat and relax? Cue Bouma, Franson and company!

    Graham Knott
    Anthony Louis
    Nathan Noel

Wow, that is some serious talent Mr. Bowman, Gauthier and Kelley, thx!

  • April 28, 2018 at 9:57 am

Noonan, the Pens are led by a skilled pit bull in Sid Crosby who still dominates NHL playoffs, at 5’11” not Toews. So, Connor Sheary and Ryan Rust probably don’t get any similar numbers up if they are playing on the HAWKS for example. But when you play with a Hall of Famer like Sid and your team is a dynasty, you follow. Plus, their GMs are better accountants and talent evaluators.

  • April 28, 2018 at 10:00 am

And Ian, if you think the Bruins, Sharks, Preds, Jets, Preds and Pens are lightweight then I am not sure what you are watching?

  • April 28, 2018 at 10:28 am

Not watching anything just stating facts not self serving comments. Makita i find it kind of ironic that you use the identity of one of the all time great Blackhawks who his teammates will tell you never weighed more than 160 lbs. to fire your cheap shots at and about small players.

  • April 28, 2018 at 10:35 am

Funny Ian..facts..I guess those 3 cup champs had lots of 5’7” players. Not self serving at all by the way, real facts but I guess you are not watching the playoffs just like our GM and our vacationing scout in RUSSIA??? Really!

Stan Maikta is a legend and so is Bobby Hull in what was a 6 team league of another era where half the players couldn’t skate except for Hull and Makita!!!

  • April 28, 2018 at 11:41 am

I call it self serving when one minute your saying the game has changed and passed the team by and next your going back to how old teams looked saying they changed too much.

  • April 28, 2018 at 12:20 pm

why are we wasting our time arguing w/ this Mikita fellow? He’s clearly lost…

  • April 28, 2018 at 7:08 pm

I’m with you, Tab. He’s clearly lost… no shit.

  • April 29, 2018 at 9:33 am

Go Knights. What a great job a GM did with this team and they are so enjoyable to watch a team that reminded me what we had and are GM let Father Time deminish this team with his generous long term contracts and tied his hands to get proven talent to have continue success! That’s why we are at this stage ! All u have to do is add The salaries and what was left gets u this record as soon as u don’t have a back up goalie !!!! And trade away number one scoring line in NHL player Panarin That was the straw that broke this teams back. Well SB got one year to save his job and unless he dumps 15 mil and signs a legit backup goalie. It will be a repeat season to which fans will not watch

  • April 29, 2018 at 12:07 pm

It’s absolute fucking bullshit that they don’t draft where they finished in the standings. Carolina goes from 11 to 2??? The Hawks, through no fault of their own, drop to 8 from 7???…………………….FUCK you, Bettman, you little Bela Lugosi look-a-like.
