Official: Kirby Dach Makes Canada’s WJC Roster

Friday morning, Hockey Canada released its final roster for the 2020-21 World Junior Championships. As expected, Kirby Dach made the cut.

Dach will wear number 7 for Canada, which happens to be the number Brent Seabrook wears for the Blackhawks. Dach lived with Seabrook during his rookie season in Chicago.

Two other Hawks prospects were named to the Czech roster.

I havnt looked at roster of any of the teams. WIth Dach being the best player from that draft isint he the top player in world juniors tournament like Teuvo was.

Are there any players from the draft before Dach draft that those couple could be ebtter then him.

ER, the virus should stay under control by then. For the winter mths you might see closures with demo/decisions/for state closures on things. Then in spring shoul dbe back to normal for hub/normal.

So world juniors should just make it in time before thing get crazy from holiday wks general public not listening to us with virus rules.

Mo, I think all the 2018 draftees would be too old – wouldn’t they? So it should be players from the 2019 and 2020 drafts.

I don’t know if Hughes and Kakko are playing for their teams, but I do know Lafreniere is not and Byfield and Stutzle are playing. So any of those guys could certainly win MVP of the tourney. Plus, quite a few guys on Canada would have to be considered too – Byram and Cozens just to name a couple.

Hope it goes off safely and they show themselves well. Yes anybody drafted in 2018 will be to old this year to play. Rangers didn’t release Kappo and Lafreniere or Devils didn’t release Jack Hughes to go, not sure exactly why they refused too. Mo, Dach could very well end up being best player of his draft class but in a short tournament like this, no way to predict who will have best showing there.

Going off topic here and looking at what a 26 man roster could look like, if that is what they go with. Trades coukd happen before then but assuming this it as Bowman said it may be. Going with 15F, 8D, 3G makeup.

Filling Saads spot with Toews and Kubalik, possibly Shaw if he is ready but don’t really expect him to play right away, so think maybe Quenneville gets first crack there. Kurashev could land there at somepoint too. Next line Cat, Dach and Kane played pretty good together, so may start together and how they produce dictates how long that line lasts. Strome should get signed and other bubble top 6 hopeful Nylander, with Janmark who can help them with their weaknesses, defensively, puck battles, faceoffs. Wallmark can center Suter and Hagel, both who had a good fall in Swiss league and look ready to play a role. Highmore, Kampf and Carpenter were a decent line in playoffs can give 5 rotating lines if that’s how they want to go, especially if the back to back games type schedule is used.

On defense Keith, Dehaan, Zadorov and Carlsson on left side, with Boqvist, Mitchell, Murphy Seabrook on right side. Likely alot of pair changing pairs on the go and again could be on a rotating type basis as well. Obviously Delia, Subban and Lankinen as 3 goalies who will all play.

If a 4 man taxi squad is a go as well, could see Smith, Pirri, Seeler fit there with maybe a 4th goalie. Tomkins or sign a veteran like Craig Anderson to a minimum deal for depth and go to option if none of the 3 hopefuls step up. Even could get Nalimov on a 1 year elc and use opportunity to get a look at him. Players like Kurashev to start year, Entwistle, Chalupa, Morrison and possibly Soderlund who had a good fall could be callup depth at forward from Rfd. Beaudin, Lindholm and Kalynuk provide depth on blueline in Rfd. when they get started. Agree with comments this team could be better than advertised if goaltending is there.
