Olczyk, Hossa and Sharp To Help Blackhawks Search For New GM

A couple hours before their game on Monday evening, the Blackhawks announced three former players will be involved in searching for a new general manager.

Eddie Olczyk (who should be the team’s president of hockey ops in our opinion), Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp will help the Hawks’ search.

I don’t understand – why search?? You have them right there! Olczyk VP, Sharp GM, and Hossa as coach! Stop the madness – you have three of the most brilliant hockey minds in your own building. Why dumb the process down. Stop the Search – Hire the three of them!!

Ticket sales and DaBears gtting mauled for not respecting former players…..

Why wait to start a search that should’ve been started the day Stan
was fired. Also why announce it now and not at the town hall?

I’d rather Seabs as coach before Hossa

Sharpie is my second choice as GM….Steve Sullivan is my first

Please no Edzo, please…I’m begging you Danny not Edzo

Seems like a needless circus atmosphere around the whole thing.

They ask them to help because they don’t any off them for GM but they can help finding Patrick Roy for GM
Then PR will choose them to help for other positions.
    That’s all
    Simple answer for simple question.
PR will shock the organisation and will bring another kind off leader in the place .
4-5 years from now we will be in the Top 8 team in NHL
    GO HAWKS GO.

5 days ago. FIVE, Danny announced he was reaching out to potential candidates this week to interview for the role of General Manager. 5 days later: NOW we are honored to announce a group of advisors to assist in the search for a GM. LOL!!!! Maybe they can get Scotty Bowman to sit in there too(he is still listed as the Senior Advisor of Hockey Operations for the Hawks). They are still clinging to hope they can pull off a couple more wins to “get back in the race”.

At Hossa hall of fame speech , he stated he is looking forward to work with Danny , in the future. Does that mean he will have a role in the organization.

I just think this process is ass backwards. Hire a president of hockey operations first (someone outside the org who knows hockey). Then they hire the GM they want . Because of the way their doing this , I believe KD will be the GM , Eddie will be prez and Hossa will be in mgmt. And the Wirtzs are wondering why attendance is dropping.

What GM search mgt business experience do Hossa and Sharp have? I know O was a coach. What was his record? Asking for a friend.

    strong stats for dach tonight.

an even strength assist, but -2 for the night so he was on the ice for all of the goals against.

one sog in twenty minutes toi.

    3-9 on face offs.

just when does his learning curve begin?

I don’t mind this advisory committee at all – the question that I find most relevant is what does Danny W know about hockey and hiring the next GM instead of what do Sharpie, Edzo and Hoss know about hiring a GM?

I’d be more worried if Danny wasn’t asking for help from 3 great hockey people and former players (and coach) who do know hockey and insteas was doing the hiring by himself without their input and I don’t think any of the three would agree to do it if they were just there for window dressing – they will have legitimate input – the second most relevant question is will Danny listen to them?

Overall I think there’s a much better chance that the Hawks get a competent qualified experienced GM with this advisory committee than without – sure there is a PR element to it but that’s how business works

If KD ends up as the GM then we’ll know the fix was in with this advisory committee but I don’t think those 3 former great Hawks want ‘organizational puppet’ added to their legacy

I remain hopeful that Hoss, Sharpie and Eddie O will insist on an experienced GM especially considering the state of both the on ice and off ice Hawks

Wrap: So far it looks like 2/3rds of the “committee” are exactly that. Organizational puppets. They can “insist” that an experienced GM will be hired, but then again Danny can say the “intern” is experienced. He got us Lafferty.

Hammer – your skepticism is definitely warranted but I remain hopeful that those 3 will be more than puppets

We’ll see – I keep reading that KD is a lock – if that’s true then like I said we’ll know the fix was in – also if true it’ll be such a bad look for the Hawks and for Danny in particular that I’m at least hopeful that he realizes that and will eventually do the right thing

Just listening to Eliotte Freidman and from his sources he is less than certain that KD will be the hire – some of his sources say yes others say it’s wide open – so that’s encouraging

Also he reports that Scott Neidermeyer and Paul Kariya are involved in the ANA GM search so are they also organizational puppets or is getting former players who care about your franchise involved in these sorts of decisions becoming a thing?

Actually with the right Gm and coach it could work out as the right time for this happening. With forwards contracts all expiring this year or next, they have a chance rebuild the forward group to more ready to compete group in next couple of years. Goaltending and defense look like patience with the system can fill those holes pretty much.
