Patrick Kane Headed to Switzerland

Reports out of Switzerland are that Patrick Kane is headed overseas. He will join Swiss league team EHC Biel on a lockout deal, where he’ll play with Boston Bruins forward Tyler Seguin.

The news was made official on the Biel website.

Kane becomes the fifth Hawks player headed overseas, joining Viktor Stalberg, Michael Frolik, Michal Rozsival and Bryan Bickell.

Pat Brisson, Kane’s agent (who also reps Jonathan Toews and Sidney Crosby) confirmed to the Sun-Times’ Adam Jahns that Kane will still play in Friday night’s charity game in Rosemont.

As suggested previously, the owners are not going to budge. This thing has spun out of control to the point that the season is in my opinion going to be 100% lost. Kane is bolting to Switzerland on good advice. I’ll bet the ranch dozens upon dozens of NHLers are about to do the same.

There is no negotiation. The owners want a 100% victory and are fully prepared to torpedo the season.

I can’t remember who it was exactly (I think Craig Custance with ESPN), but he said that this is a bad sign for the NHL. Players like Kane (who didn’t go overseas right away) were remaining hopeful that a season would be played. The fact that they are starting to give up, is very telling.
